First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Tejaswini, I just loved your post, it spoke to me personally on so many levels. Although I feel like you should customize your blog, remove unnecessary placeholder texts, update about page and such. It’ll look much better that way. Have a nice time blogging!

    2. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. I’d say write when you have time. I’m a big fan of the “Schedule Posts” feature, because I’m busy working two jobs and going to school full-time, so I don’t have the time to sit downa nd write every day. This allows me to write content when I’ve got the time and have it roll out on the blog as it needs to. I try to publish book reviews on Sundays, Recipe reviews on Wednesdays, and a random writing about life on Fridays. Other things happen here and there throughout the week as they do. Being able to write a whole lot of posts at once and schedule them keeps me from getting overwhelmed by the “I need to write something today!!” feeling when it creeps up on me.

Good luck, and welcome! (And I’ll tell you, stay AWAY FROM ULYSSES! That is a book nobody needs to read! I read it for a class last semester and almost died.)

      1. Thanks for the advice! It seems like the schedule method is what everyone swears by on here from all the posts I’ve read. I’m a busy person too but it seems like if I stay on top of things I’ll be okay!

Ulysses is one that I’m dreading actually. I read a few passages in school and it was horrible. My plan was to just put it off until I can’t avoid it anymore!

      2. If you decide to read it (and I strongly suggest you don’t, because I have never cried so much in anger and frustration than reading Ulysses), buy the footnote book that accompanies it. It won’t save you much headache, but it will save you some.

      1. Thanks! I wish I was the mastermind that thought them all up but I’m the person that’s going to read them all for sure

  1. Hello All! I want to write about various science topics in a fun and easily understandable manner! I feel that everyone can understand any science topic, and that scientists should more readily communicate with non-scientists. My first post (barring my introductory post) is about how we all have the ability to learn and we can all enhance this ability! Check it out and please let me know what you think!

    How do we learn?

I will be happy to look at other people’s blogs too, just let me know!

  2. Okay a relatively new blogger here. I write about topics that are somewhat niche and esoteric but I always try to make my point as clear as possible and make the reader understand what I’m talking about. It’ll be of immense help if you, the reader would read my latest post and give some much needed review as to whether it was understandable or not. I am always sure to go through this weekly thread and the community pool thread and review as many blogs as possible and give some constructive feedback, I’ll be sure to give it to you too in case you need some. 1. I found your post very nice. If you’re going to review books, remember to do a thorough spelling/grammar check on your post before you publish it 🙂 It’s just a little something that shows you pay attention to the small details. Plus, if you’re a book reviewer, it doesn’t reflect too well on you if your readers think you can’t be bothered to proofread!

Welcome to the book-reviewing world, and good luck to you!

    1. You need to add excerpts to your posts, right now it is just a template. Now seeing that your content is preppy, you might want to switch to a more colorful theme which brings out the color in the colorful pictures in your blog, I hope you know what I am saying.

    1. Welcome!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      Here’s your homepage: https://itsrachela.wordpress.com/

(Also, a tip — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.)

      1. Hi, I realised the link was wrong after I posted it but I couldn’t work out how to delete my comment, I posted another one with the right one though. Also thanks for letting me know about the tags, I will defo go back through my posts and reduce them down 🙂

    2. Superb start in your blogging adventure, loving the way that you write and the style that you bring out your posts to the readers, very insightful, and filled with veracity. Really love the theme that you have chosen for your blog. Little footnotes, there is a text widget at the top right of your blog, a cover picture would be nice, all of those could be edited by pressing the customise button on your page. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Hi Sage, I like the idea of your blog and your first posts but you might want to consider changing the background or the white writing as I found it quite difficult to read in this format.

    1. I meant to include a few words about my blog…that post title can be a little intimidating:) I am a wife and mom looking to share my God given journey with other wives and moms. My blog offers encouragement and advice on marriage, raising children, and homemaking/homesteading

  3. Hello!
New blogger on the block. Haha.
It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve been blogging and I think its really fun. I’ll be posting a link to my latest post below. I hope you’ll check it out and enjoy:)
I generally post small write-ups, pieces of poetry and inspirational messages. I hope to grow enough to be able to create a community which is a safe place for people to discuss their experiences and problems and we can support them ❤

    1. Great post! I am definitely a perfectionist too so I know what you mean. Just have to let it go sometimes 😊
I suggest getting your “About” page up-and-running asap, but otherwise, I like your fonts and layout! Great job!

    2. Hello there!! I see you’ve got some insightful comments about page suggestions, so I won’t repeat it. I will mention how charmingly fabulous your layout and design of the blog is!! I’m a little jealous of it 😁 It’s so pleasing to the eye I really don’t want to call it simple; but in a way the simplicity of it is part of the charm. You’ve got a great start so far! And those pictures from Italy for you birthday? They’re gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing and happy blogging!! 💫
