Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. For Pintrest I’ve found that script that shows Pintrest button when you hover over image is pretty neat. Like, go to my latest blog post and hover over quote image to see it in action: http://howtoaddict.com/choose-belong-fight-others-depression-targets-no-one-around/

Then it’s just question of having decent audience and visually impressive content. Like, my traffic is terrible + I’m not focused on Pintrest. And pics are not that great. So I don’t see much results… but blog which I inspired method / script kills it because of audience + pics.

      Helpful? 😉

    2. Hello! I sincerely liked the layout and design of your blog! 🙂 The colour choices are pleasing to the eye and everything appears to be easily found/navigated. I wish you all the best on the Pinterest front though; I asked around here last week and was told by a handful of others that it’s not that great of a source for bringing in readers/views. ☹️ I found this to be incredibly sad because of all my social media accounts, Pinterest has the highest followers. If you happen to know any magic tricks, then I give you all the props! Best of luck with your blogging; I’m sure you’ll do great! Thanks for sharing. 💫

      1. Thank you for the feedback!! I’m in a few blogging groups with people who bring in loads of traffic from Pinterest, but I think that it’s a combination of your post itself, the images, how active you are on Pinterest, and who is pinning it. So, a super “easy” thing to figure out haha 🤣

      2. You are most welcome! I’m always glad and happy to leave feedback! 😊 Perhaps it’s the images (or lack of Pin-worthy ones at that) that’s hurting me. Thanks for the return message! I hope it continues to work out for you.

      3. Yes, I’m not looking for that either, ugh! 😩 Hopefully someone knows of a trick for those of us not wishing to pay for views. And thank you! I love all the various content on yours; I look forward to exploring more. 😄

  1. Hi all!

I’ve been blogging quite a bit recently. At least compared to previously. A lot of posts on different topics. If you could read them and tell me what type of post you like the best? Or if it doesn’t make a difference to you? I will provide links to my four most recent posts. Thank you in advance!:

I just posted on the new Doctor Who announcement here: https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/2017/07/17/doctor-who-an-opinion-on-the-announcement-of-jodie-whittaker-as-the-13th-doctor/

I posted a few days ago about relationships and dating here:
    https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/2017/07/13/more-on-dating-and-realizations/

I posted on the book “The Hate U Give” here:
    https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/2017/07/06/the-hate-u-give-more-than-a-book-review/

And then there was my poem from a few weeks ago here:

    1. I’m experimenting with sticking to the schedule regardless of metrics… like if your audience is used to you writing at certain time, they’ll know post is there and may come to read it. In that sense morning / afternoon / evening doesn’t matter too much… if you are not focused on specific niche that is (bedtime stories for example). Anyways – just my $0.02 – I’m currently in week 2 of experimenting with this on my blog and will gladly revisit discussion in few weeks if you want.

      1. Yes! Thank you so much for answering my question. I’ve had my blog for a few months now and I just noticed that at one point I did write a post about 7 in the evening and for some reason that was my most popular post. I was going to try to write one in the evening again and see if that got more views for some reason.

    1. Feels so great reading your blog… I definitely miss pre-college years and wish I was as good as you are when it comes to documenting everything. Regardless if you grow your following or not when you look back on everything you wrote in like 25 years or so – I’m sure it’ll make you really happy. Good luck and keep up with great posts!

    2. Your writing style is conversational and easy to read. Your photos are a good feature. This post seemed lengthy. You could have broken it into parts to make a set of posts which you scheduled to release over a period of days. I noticed that you used many tags. Be aware that the WordPress Reader will only include posts with 15 or fewer Tags + Categories. https://gracelead.co

  2. Hi everyone! I’ve been blogging a lot recently, at least comparatively, and was hoping for some feedback on the different subjects of my blog!

    https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/

Please, if you can, review my four most recent posts: one from today about the Doctor Who announcement, once about relationships and dating, one about hte book “THe Hate U Give” and one a poem about dating/Tinder.

Please let me know what you think! I’d love feedback.

    1. As a fellow left-hander-ish, I love the name of your blog. As being a student of life, its cool seeing the inner-perspectives of those who teach and what motivates them🤙🏼

  4. Hello everyone and Happy Monday!! 😃 My blog is sorta like the dictionary where you get a word of the day BUT it’s cool because the example is longer than a five word sentence AND it’s fiction. And the words are generally British English, but there will also be words/phrases that are Irish, Scottish, Australian.

So last week I did a minor facelift to the blog by adding a menu button. As I get closer to my 100th post, I figured it’s about time to make things easier on my readers than simply having an archives button off to the side. I added two links: one for my intro, first blog post and a link for continued stories. Would you lovely swimmers mind leaving feedback? I’m worried more about the series page. Is there a way that I can make two columns? Thanks!!! 💫

    1. Hi there, pal! I checked out your blog and honestly, yours is one of those rare ideas that are both great and original. I love that unique feature of providing an example story instead of a single sentence. I created and did a word of the day challenge this April and I’d like to extend that to you. Perhaps you’d like to do it, being a word nerd like me? Just leave a like on that post when you start so that I know you’ve begun. Here’s the link- https://magicquill17.wordpress.com/2017/03/31/word-of-the-day-challenge/
The unique feature of my blog is the parodies I make of famous poems. If you like, you can read them and give me some honest feedback.
      Cheers!

      2. I left you a comment on your linked post. Wanted to thank you again! It’s insanely clever and awesome challenge idea. As I’m super close to my 100th post, I probably won’t start on the challenge soon, especially as I already have a compiled set of Brit Wits well in advance. However, that does not mean it’s not something I shouldn’t seriously consider. Thanks again for the share and the lovely comments! All the best! 😄💫

  5. Hello fellow bloggers!! I recently changed up my theme and getting back into the swing of things after an unfortunate AC issue!

I would love to hear your feedback on my posts and design if you wouldn’t mind. My blog is a little all over the place but the main focus is mental health. I look forward to hearing from you and learning more about you! ❤️

    1. Hi! I seriously adore your new theme! It’s got lovely colours to gaze upon and your content is well organised! At first I was afraid your menu button had too many options, then realised once you have loads of content, it’s much easier to navigate with the aid of your menu. (I hope that makes sense. Haha!) Thanks for sharing and happy blogging! 💫

  6. Only on the Internet can a person be lonely and popular at the same time. And so they say… My blogging life is basically goalless. I like the zen nature of that. I started bloggin because I like doing it. Writing’s a kind of lonely thing to do, and I liked the idea of demystifying the process because I loved it as a kid and teenager and as somebody who wanted desperately to write.

      1. Thanks for reading! And you’re right! I’m currently working on a post about how to help and support people in the role of caretakers. It’s something close to my heart and is becoming so much more prevalent these days. I think it’s sort of an invisible thing, but is very slowly being brought to the forefront of the public eye.

  7. Hello thinkers, poets, and writers,

Kindly read my latest post, it’s about what Islam says about orphans and widows, and their rights. These rights and laws were preached by Prophet Muhammad over 1400 years ago.

    Orphans & Widows

    Your feedback is highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    1. Hello! What a fascinating read. Huh. It honestly got me thinking. I am still mulling it over, so I’m afraid I will do you a disservice now by leaving any further comments. I feel as if I need to read through your post again and definitely more carefully. I find that any old laws or traditions are insightful to the past as well as how it’s still (or how it’s changed) relevant. Your content was useful and I think you did a great job providing your readers with pertinent information. Thank you for sharing and happy blogging!

  8. Hi everyone! At my blog, Remnants of Wit, I discuss literature, poetry, philosophy, theology, and art. This post talks about a phenomenon observed in visual storytelling and how it can be applied to literature and writing:

The Masking Effect: What a Boring Main Character Can Do for a Story

If you like comics, art, animation, and all kinds of books–and you love it when these multiple interest collide–this post just might be your thing!

    1. I really enjoyed reading your article. I never really thought about the masking effect before. Which is exactly what the writer would want because it means you’re fully drawn into the story/comic/art. I really liked your prospective as well, keep them coming! I look forward to more.
