First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. I just dropped in to see how your blog looks. As far as feedback is concerned I agree with the first comment. You need to darken and upsize your font. To do that you need to go to Themes>Customize. You’ll get another pop-out side bar and one of the choices in this bar is Fonts.
Click on that and you’ll see you can select different font types and also select the size, small medium or large. Try out different fonts and see which one you like best. If you’re happy with the Default font you have now, at least up the size.
One more thought. Please make your post into paragraphs. It’s hard to read one long slug of text.

    1. I took a look at your blog to check your writing skills, as you asked, and I find them very good. Your command of English and ability to set your thoughts down in a clear, concise way is A+.

But I will add a bit of blogging advice: Because your theme doesn’t have a Home page — which is fine — you should install a Recent Posts widget. When new readers come to your blog, the only way they can discover what you’ve written is by clicking on Previous post — and once you have twenty or so posts up, nobody will bother.

Also you should install a Follow this blog button so it’s easy for a new reader
to click and follow you. Both of these are found in the Widgets. Perhaps you know , but I’ll leave the details for others who haven’t yet mastered this.

In the left hand pop up side bar under “My Site you’ll see Themes. Click on the Customize box and you’ll get another pop-out side bar. One of the choices on this bar is Widgets. Click on that. At the bottom left hand, in the sidebar, there’s an Add new button. Click on that.

Choose the Recent Posts widget. You will get a choice of where you want this widget to appear and how many recent post titles you want displayed. Five is the default number; I’ve set mine to eight. When you’ve made your selections, hit Save Widget. Repeat with the Follow this blog widget. An Archives widget is great, too.

As you visit other blogs and see what they have installed, you’ll get a better idea of what you want for widgets and where you want them to appear. All the best!

  1. I have been having so much fun researching and writing articles lately, I love that this website gives me a platform to do that. I’ve been setting up a group blog as well which has been time-consuming, but this weekend I’m hoping to rest the writing for a couple of days and start reading other blogs! Anyone have any recommendations for wide-ranging blogs to follow? I love (as you might be able to tell from my posts) politics and conservation issues, but also fun stuff…would like to read some blogs that have a similar mix of topics 🙂

    1. Looking forward to your thoughts 🙂 May I suggest eventually adding some categories on the side for all your posts and also a contact page if people would like to message you.

    1. I very interesting account and I’m glad you two clicked. As you found out before, online dating can be a disaster. The potential for deceit is high. So I’m happy for you and wish you success at “getting-it-together” honestly and openly. 🙂

    1. Hi! I just checked out your blog and it said nothing found. Perhaps you should go check your post again because sometimes it says it’s published but instead scheduled.

    2. Welcome to WordPress.com!

One little tip (but feel free to ignore) — the neon pink background of her site is very bright, making it a bit challenging to stay on your blog and read your post. You could consider a shade that’s a bit more muted so it’s easier for visitors to read your writing!

    I am Victoria Adepoju.

A lover of God and a product of grace and love. I call myself King’s peculiar because my father first called me that.

1 Peter  2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

I have passion for teenagers and love to see them live life the way God wants them to.

I strongly believe that if teenagers don’t get it right in their teen age it would be very difficult to change them in their youth age.

We are predestined by God to live holy and blameless lives. When we live below that God isn’t happy with us.

Ephesians  1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:   Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.

We cant afford to live less of what God has in mind for us.

Wish you a happy reading here on  my blog. God bless you!!!

    1. Hello! Welcome to the blogging community here! It is a scary journey, but please don’t allow it to hinder you. 🙂 I enjoyed the chance to read your writing. You have an open tone that ought to allow your audience to connect with you!
One little thing from me personally was I thought the dark gray background with the white text, while better than a black background and white text, was still a little straining on the eyes. It’s definitely legible though! (Does it still count as legible even though it’s not handwritten? Hmm…thoughts for later!! 😅) Another quick thing is with your banner: is it purposeful for it to appear overlapped? Because where the name is stretched across looked as if there was meant to be readable text behind it. Of course, this could be a me problem and if that’s the case, please accept my apologies. I wish you sincere luck on your blogging journey. You’ll enjoy it! All the best. 😃💫

      1. I agree with the header as well, I like the hints of red with all the gray, but it could be reworked to serve you better.

      2. Hey, thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. It was very concise and helpful. I’m still all thumbs when it comes to the ins and outs of the formatting. I guess it’s just trial and error at this point.
Your comments are very much appreciated.

      3. You’re welcome! And don’t feel rushed about the format of the blog. I settled on one for nearly two months before deciding to really give it a go and a huge makeover. Just enjoy it! Plus, the way I look at it: it’s your blog and really it ought to please you first and foremost. 🙂

    1. Welcome to the blogging community! Thank you most sincerely for sharing your story. I hope you continue to find time writing in between chasing after your daughter. Also, kudos to you and your family for your situation. I think it’s awesome, your reasons, why you want to stay at home. (Aside from your health. For that, I give you all the best.) I’m close to my dad (and my mom) but I think there’s something super special about father-daughter relationships. Cheers to your future writing! 😃💫

    1. Hello!! I took a quick peak inside your blog and for one it is a beautiful layout! The colour choices are lovely and easy on the eye. It grabbed me immediately! 😄 your content on blogging is a great choice, too. I take it you start out with a quote from a poet (or whomever) and then it relates to your own post? I’ll have to come back and give it another glance over. I wish you all the best!! Keep writing! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

  3. Thank you so much for the opportunity! My first blog:
Hi my name is Heloisa and I have been an educator for 20 years, I have taught all ages groups, subjects the typical and the special. I have a passion for helping people to go from point A to point B in their lives. I have 3 children who, even though we agree to disagree in many things, they are exceling in school and university.
I am currently looking for a way to connect with other people, who are interested in learning how to learn and the practice of enlightening themselves and others.
I have loved my classroom and the things I do, and many times I would like to share what it is done in the classroom with others as well as talk to others about what they do in their “classrooms kingdoms”. This is why I am creating this blog in an attempt to reach out others and to exchange ideas, information, etc.
I am so thrilled that our paths have crossed, welcome to my blog!

      1. Hey! Checked out your blog. Your HP stuff is really cute. I don’t do much crafting myself but I try to make a special effort at Halloween when I have a party to go to and have made stuff for that, nothing HP related thus far though.
