Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I’m a little in awe, that was beautifully honest and so well written. I can understand your hesitation in taking medication, I myself had medication for a condition for a long time and had to slowly wean myself off from taking 12 tablets a day (tell me about it🙄) so I absolutely get it, I now use pain management strategies instead and I’m an entirely new person. There are alternatives, I hope you find the right one for you!

  1. Hi everyone 🙂

How are you guys doing? So, last week I published part 2 of my fiction series “Missed Opportunity.” This is the first time I’m attempting fiction, so I’d love to get some feedback on the content. I’d prefer if you leave comments on the post, but I’m cool with getting feedback here as well.

The URLs to both Part 1 and 2 are as follows:

    Missed Opportunity – Part 1

    Missed Opportunity – Part 2

Additionally, I write a lot about my personal struggles and at times I attempt poetry as well. Feel free to check those out as well if you have some time to spare 🙂

Thank you guys in advance 🙂

Have an awesome week ahead 😀

    1. Hey josypheen,
I am a Noob, so don’t value my feedback too much 😉

So i never heared about a “tag post”, but I like the idea. It seems fun and also rewarding for readers and the writer. Well done…

      Content:
      – I dont like the * and ** it’s confusing me too much. Maybe separate it somehow from the rest of the text?
      – Images: Perfect!
      – dishes from other countries: An amazing list of different dishes. I loved to read it. May be worth an aditional post.
      – answer to the second question: What about the honeymoon? let us know 😉

and now I am curios what happend to you in Japan. Well done!

      1. Thanks Matthias!
Don’t worry! I’ve only been blogging for a few months so I feel like a noob too! 😀

I really appreciate your feedback. I will have to write about some of my Japan adventures. It’s mostly just hitch-hiking, meeting lovely people and visiting crazy festivals.

Right. I’ll go and peek at your blog now too.

    1. Very interesting thought. One suggestion, if I may. It might be easier for readers if your images were aligned to the left or right of the text instead of below. I know for me at least it kind of throws me off to have the text interrupted by a picture. Thanks for sharing!

    2. So true, “human beings are rarely ever that simple.” Unless they can create two large groups that are alike in every way possible except for the temperature where they sleep, analysis will yield indicators at best. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun to speculate as long as we don’t fall into our common trap of stating theory as fact 🙂 https://gracelead.co

    http://wp.me/p876wZ-y6

Excerpt: Previous posts have focused a lot on male leadership and decision-making. But what happens when your big ideas explode in your face? When those counting on you get let down? When disappointment strikes  it’s important to take the following steps:

    1. Yes! Who can argue with that logic? I’m fond of a tool called a Plus/Delta. After each effort, make a list of all the things that went well, the Plus. Then make a list of things to change so that next time will be better, the Delta. The key is that you can’t put complaints on the Delta list. You have to put something we can do to make it better. Whining and blaiming are not allowed. The focus is on fixing. https://gracelead.co

  3. Hi everybody Happy Monday! I am new to blogging, it started as a travel blog but now I’m trying to write about some deeper stuff too. This is my first really personal kind of story, so I am anxious to hear what people think. I would like to know if it holds your interest, as well as general feedback. Thanks everybody, I will be checking out yours as well!

    1. Hello swimmer, glad to see that you’re having fun splashing around in the pool!
From the first few words, I already knew it was going to be great! Your writing is amazing!!

    2. First off, what a great read!! I enjoyed your writing style and how it flowed so effortlessly. I felt like I was you on the bus experiencing this myself. Wonderfully written. I hit home with me on this one, as our family came from a very poor country at the time and we practically had no money to even survive day to day life. And then I also got the opportunity to come to the states and get to experience the American dream so reading your post gave me all sorts of emotions and memories. Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. I see you have a drop down of all your posts but consider having a page for a feed of them because that list will be hard to navigate as you keep writing.

My most popular this week: An Open Letter to My Daughter as she graduates from elementary school- Full of not just a mothers love- but advice that a lot of teenagers should listen to as they go off to High School. https://theyoncecalledherpumpkin.wordpress.com/2017/06/23/dear-daughter/

And the next series of My Kentucky Diaries has just gone live! I am blogging all our adventures while we continue to vacation on and off in Kentucky this year. Great Family Travel ideas! And this one is also for the Car Enthusiasts!

    1. Great post, the one about the letter to your daughter. I think that a lot of teenagers can learn from that post. Lots of us teenagers need to realize that our parents understand and are there for us. Oh, and I commented on your post!!

    2. Hello, Irene! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your letter you wrote to your oldest daughter. It made me tear up and get very emotional. ❤️ For one, your heartfelt emotion was visible from start to finish. She’ll cherish this forever. It reminded me a lot of some notes/letters my mom wrote to me. I know that sharing things extremely personal like the letter may be vulnerable, but I want to commend you for doing it. I’ll probably have to return to it so I can appreciate it with a clearer head. Congratulations to you and your family on such an accomplishment! Cheers. 💫

    1. I commented on the post, but will put my feedback here too. For feedback, it’s great that you put a call to action at the end. Another idea would be to ask people to post alternative name suggestions for their own future blogs. For example, I may be Accidental Iowan now, but what will my blog name be in ten years?

      1. Thank you, Robert, for reading it again! Great conversation on this the other day! I feel I might write another book of essays on the subject since I think about it the most, but I don’t think I’m the most qualified!

    1. It’s the little things, isn’t it–that can make a break a writing morning? Love the pen post. I commented on your site. I’m getting ready to dive into the Community Pool with a couple questions. Would love to have a fellow writer, like you, check out my site.

    2. Ooh, great post! Like you said, that pen must be really good to be written about in a blog post, haha!!
But in all seriousness, I might just get one of those, running out of pens happens to much to me so I’ll definitely look for those ones.

      1. Wow, that’s very expensive for a pen. Good thing that the pen is affordable and good, because that just makes writing all the better.
Your welcome, but your writing caused me to write and read this!!

    3. Hello!! Thanks for posting something that spoke to my soul! 😃 and by that I mean, as a writer I go through notebooks and pens like air (well…almost. Maybe not as much as a tie as I’d like to imagine, but it’s up there.) Based on your post and well detailed account on the pen, as well as my own experiences, I may have to upgrade! Thank you for posting and cheers to your future writings! 💫

      1. Thanks for reading and commenting. If you pick one up let me know what you think of it! I have tried out so many pens and notebooks over the years. This one really stuck out to me, enough to blog about it.

      2. You’re welcome! Also, I figured it had to be something along those lines and that’s why I felt it would be a good enough pen to test out. I am picky with pens, but usually it’s just about the color and the durability. Thanks for blogging about it! I’ll be sure to let you know (hopefully I won’t forget!) if I get one.
