Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  3. Hey there! I posted a blog where I talk about feeling like a misfit and how that can be a powerful thing. I wrote it as an encouragement to myself that I think will help many of you who feel like you don’t always fit in.

Misfit: Learning the Power of Never Fitting in

I hope you enjoy it, and i’d love to check out your blog as well. I always like finding new bloggers to read!

  4. Hello bloggers!

I originally made my blog in a very simple and minimalistic way…

However, now that I am starting to develop my blog I wanted some advice on how to make my blog more like a website like successful blogs!
here you have different tabs on the top (mine for instance will be: personal diving journey / central america tips / south-east asia tips / etc.) as well as more of an inviting layout for this.
    Any advice?!
Here is a link to my blog: pathofanomad.wordpress.com

    Thank you in advance!!

    1. what I found in my past successful blogs was be genuine, and share via every social media outlet you can. You have to brand yourself/blog. Layout is not as important as is flow and easy access. Visit other blogs if you want people to visit yours. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. And share your post via Facebook, and any other social media outlet.

By the way – your layout seemed fine. You have a nice ratio of pics also. I thought it was well done. Good luck on your journey. Good luck on becoming a MSDT.

  5. What if you could eat as much as you wanted?

As part of my quest to be happier, healthier and more productive, I’ve come up with a new way of looking at the four food groups.

Instead of grains, dairy, proteins, and fruits and vegetables, I’ve come up with the four new categories: Abundance, Moderation, Limited and Rare.

Please read the post and let me know what you think!

  6. I have had a couple blogs in the past and they were successful but they were for my enjoyment. I left blogging for a while because of my home life. I come back this time with a purpose. Yes I will still be blogging for enjoyment, but I also want it to be professional, so it may be part of my resume. I would really enjoy any feedback on the set-up and professionalism of my blog. Any advice to make it more professional will be appreciated. I have tried keeping post, thinking that is more professional, but that is my opinion. Thank you for your time and input.

  8. Good morning everyone! I recently started my blog, and I like to post about books, philosophy, theology, and (sometimes) movies. I’ve heard a lot about finding your “niche” in blogging. I’m not sure if my blog is “specific” enough to a niche. I’d appreciate some feedback on these posts:

Poetry Friday: “Blackberry Picking” by Seamus Heaney

    Confessions of a Reluctant Plantser

Theology Thursday: Reading Scripture with the Quadriga

The first one is about poetry; the second one, writing; the third one, theology. Do these belong on the same blog? Any feedback is helpful. Thank you!

  9. Hey!
Here I’ve written about how, sometimes, I feel like I’ve been cursed. Do give it a read and let me know what you think 🙂
Leave a link a post of yours in the comment section under the post, I’ll check it out 🙂

    1. Interesting, but maybe cursed is too strong of a word to use…unlucky maybe? I’ve had some experiences…actually a lot of experiences with unlucky circumstances in my life and I can relate to the fact that some people are just made for struggle and I understand exactly the degree of how unfair that is. The thing about we unlucky people is that it makes us stronger in the long run. I hope your luck turns a bit…but maybe not too much because although it’s difficult to see in the moment difficulty leads to perseverance and perseverance means strength. Strength is never something you can have too much of!

      1. Loved the comment :’)
Yeah, cursed might just be slightly exaggerated.
Yes, after facing all this I’m pretty sure we’d have gained the strength to face other problems. Maybe all this is just training. Maybe, we unlucky people are have something huge coming our way and all of our sufferings will have a reason then.
Thank you so much for reading and giving this beautiful comment :’)

    1. Hey! Looking good!I enjoy your style of writing main comments would just be suggestions on layout (I’m picky) perhaps trying the “justify” function for text – aligns everything, I just think it looks neater (personal opinion though) – also for when you really get going you could add an extra page which contains links to posts for specific locations/countries so people can find them easier! – hope this helps! keep you the good work! 🙂

      1. Thank you for reading! I just read your posts about feminism and I love them. It’s funny how peer pressure and what the society thinks is “right” or “wrong” can distort and affect people enough to turn them (us?) against their instincts. Thank you soo much for sharing that. I noticed your comment on this community pool about the comment you received to the first Feminism is a Lie post and your post in response to it. I want you to know that I am so, so glad that there’s someone who shares my opinion. Thank you. Love,

      2. Oh my gosh, Thank you for such a great comment and for reading my posts.😊😊 So sorry I didnt see this earlier, things are often hectic around here! It’s definitely reassuring that someone who isn’t my husband agrees with me at least! I know it’s all very worrying about feminism; it has really distorted and indoctrinated people into being blind to the important issues and truths about women and everything else it decides “belongs” to it as well! Truly, truly all the best to you and thank you again xx

    1. I absolutely loved that post! I cringed a little reading it, and isn’t that the mark of a great writer after all? The ability to make your readers feel the experience as if they too were living it themselves?

    1. Enjoyable read, I suspect that you are pretty great too though! Where would we be in this world without those of us who can laugh at ourselves? I was interested in the fact that he lives in Atlanta and works with spinal cord patients, I am a patient at the Shepherd Center myself. If that is where he is employed I know firsthand about the important work they do! Thanks for sharing!

      1. Thanks so much for reading! Shepherd is incredible. He was working there for several years but has since moved to another hospital out west. Wishing you the best of luck at a best in class hospital! Looking forward to reading your blog as well.
