To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. I forgot to give a small blurb about my blog lol. It’s just about random topics I think about and things that happen in my life that I want to share with people. I hope you all enjoy, and let me know what you think about it. Thanks!

  1. Help please!

Hi everyone, I started my blog about a week ago so I’m still very confused on how to edit my website. How do you upload multiple posts within a menu tab? For instance, in my “Piece of my Mind” tab, all my writing is one long post. Whenever I try to publish a separate page, it’s not visible when I click the section I want to go to.

I hope that makes sense… I would appreciate any help I can get!

    1. Hi! I read for blog, and I really enjoyed it. It was so deep and insightful, absolutely beautiful. I’m not exactly sure how you can make your posts separate, it took me forever to figure out my website. I think if you tinker around a bit, you’ll figure it out. Good jog on your blog! I absolutely love it!

      1. When I started my new blog in spring, I wanted my posts to go right into categories in the Header. If you check my site, https://christinegoodnough.com you’ll see what I mean. But I had to learn how to do that through a Word press tutorial on Adding categories to the Header menu. This involved creating a new menu with categories included — which is simple enough once you know how to do it. 🙂

Now, when I post something and the Category is Humor, it goes to the right spot in my Main menu. If I’m guessing right, this is more like what you want to do? This is altogether different than creating a page and updating that every so often.

    2. Hi @jeanpaik,

      First off, welcome!

If I understand correctly what it is you want to have happen, you’d like to have a separate post for each of your updates.

Right now, for example, I see several updates on this page: https://angelajeanpaik.wordpress.com/brain-food/

There’s a big difference between “posts” and “pages” on a WordPress.com site.

Pages are best for content that doesn’t often change, such as your About page, where you might tell your readers a little about yourself and why you blog.

Posts, once you create and publish them, will appear in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top) on your blog. For example, if you create a new post, it will appear above the post, “Most Recent Updates” here: https://angelajeanpaik.wordpress.com/

To create a new post, you’d go to My Sites > Blog Post > Add.

Once you’re done writing, click on the Publish button so that it appears on your blog.

Posts and pages can be a little confusing at first, but you’ll get the hang of it! All the best with your blog!

Psst…if you want a great resource that offers bite-sized tasks to help you learn about blogging and build out your site, check out Blogging Fundamentals at our Blogging University. It’s completely free and you can work at a pace that suits you or pause the course at any time. There’s absolutely zero obligation, other than having fun working on your site!

      1. Thank you so much for replying! So if I understand correctly, if I publish a blog post, do I have an option to make them appear on any page? That was the main thing I was confused on.

And I will definitely have to check out your Blogging University!

      2. You can have blog posts appear on the page you designate if you create category pages. Here’s a bit of information on creating a category page. In a nutshell, you’ll create a page on your site that will contain posts that share the same category. I’ve done that here, on my own site, where you can see all the posts from a single year. As an example, this page shows all the posts that share the category “books2016.”

  2. It’s been awhile since I posted anything so please check out my latest short poem. I wrote this yesterday after the passing of my grandmother, a beautiful, wise, and spunky woman who I love deeply. This past week she struggled in the hospital just like the sun refused to shine. The day she passed was a beautiful sun shining day, not a cloud in the sky.
    I love you grandma.

    1. Checked your blog and looks good. Only thing is there is a text widget which needs a edit. Also I feel you should start inserting “Read More” tags to your posts so that people dont have to scroll the whole blog to get to next post.
      Good luck !

      1. Thank you for the sentiment, first and foremost 🙂

There is no like button, that is right. I was afraid it would clutter up the screen unnecessarily. Perhaps I need to figure out a nifty way to add a clean like button. Thanks for taking the time!

    1. Oh babe that’s awful, my hearts breaking for you. I live in the U.K. too (Scotland) my contacts page is always, always open. I can’t even begin to fathom the situation you’re in but honestly? Medical professionals are the backbone of our nation, coming from someone who spent a lot of time receiving medical care, you are too special and too important to this world to have to suffer through such a horrible relationship. Stay safe and stay strong💞

    1. Good that you have chosen this topic, all the best.. I have noticed you have put so many tags on your post, WordPress actually ignore post with so many tags.. put only few relevant tags your post.

Remember to take a moment to edit your about page and widgets. They still show default messages

  3. After doing way too much research for a trip to Paris and having several people ask me to share it, I finally started my blog.

I’m not big into formatting, but I’m trying to break things up a bit so that all the information isn’t in too big of a bite. The embedded google sheets are not exactly what I’m looking for, but are the only solution I’ve found that is even close.

Feedback appreciated, even if the topic isn’t for you.

    1. I love this! I personally don’t think you can research too much to for an experience like that…but then I do 6 months of research and planning to visit Disney World…complete with a binder so maybe I would not be a good person to ask about such things!
