First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. The content was very relatable and another thing I noticed is that you have placeholder texts on your sidebar which you need to remove/edit using the “Text Widget” section of your Theme Customizer.

  2. I am new to the blogging world entirely. I started my own blog last month and am just now understanding what the “First Friday” thread was for. (I was too nervous to even post to it in the beginning that I trashed it all together) lol. Oops. Any feedback would be appreciated, as everything in this area of my life is fresh and new. I also take criticism well, so don’t be shy. If reading a short(er) love story isn’t your thing, I’d love feedback for all the other areas of blogging, too, please! 1. Thank you! Love your unicorn story! ” just goes to show how fickle the human minds are and how we all follow in the footsteps of society” – perfect!

      1. Thank you so much! I just found the “SHORTLINK” box when I clicked edit – is that how I would link to a particular post in the future?

    1. Hi @meahmiller,

First Fridays are for brand-new bloggers sharing their first post. You’ve got more experience under your blogging belt and you’re ready to visit the Community Pool — a place where more seasoned bloggers share their work and ask for feedback. Thanks for understanding!

      1. Many thanks for helping me out! Still new to this blogging thing and, although loving the experience, I am a bit lost at times! :))

  4. Hello everyone! I sure hope I did this right and if you do get a chance to read my first work, I would be entirely grateful and humbled. Enjoy! Trying to Become

    I don’t know myself.

Is that a shock? I don’t presume it to be. It shouldn’t be.

Self-discovery and the ability to fully know who you are is a life-long journey. An epic expedition to try and conclusively sum up who you are. As a person. As a being.

And in the process, being able to meet people who will, at the end, be a major part of your life. They impact and shape it to the destiny you are entitled to. And maybe if your lucky, they get to stay. But for me, they never do. Sadly.

I can’t wait to have that. Or even find love on the way. I am a helpless romantic, proudly so.

Maybe it’s the years of reading and watching romantic movies. Maybe its the daydreams and nights where I’d lay awake thinking up stories and imaginations of what it would be like to really be with someone you love. Someone your willing to give your life up for. Of what the world had to offer with this stranger that I was yet to meet. To explore.

The prospects of actually being happy.

I think that’s where writing came in for me. When I felt like I had nothing or anyone but the pen and paper in English class. Then, I could create my own perfect universe. My utopia of whatever I perceived to be an ideal world. My happy place. My safe haven.

Imagination is the greatest escape mechanism when sadness is all you feel. When you can’t bare facing the realities of life. Or like now, when your sitting in the midst of dozens of people yet feel so lonely. So alone and invisible.

I don’t know what this is going to be yet. I don’t imagine it lasting either. But do expect parts of my mind. My imaginations and what I make up when I run away to that utopia.

I just want someone out there to hear me. To know that I exist.

I just want to make sure am not alone. To give people an insight of what my mind islike with all its mess and confusion.

    1. Hey there! I loved your post, it was a great read. Though, I have a few suggestions for the layout of your blog. Firstly I would suggest adding either side menu or a menu on top including Home,About,Contact and any other which you would like. It makes navigation very easy for readers. Secondly, adding widgets make your blog much more attractive and engaging to readers. You can add various widgets which suit you. They amp things up like crazy.

Your writing is beautiful and keep it up!
Feel free to check out my blog as well 🙂
