First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. I like your blog setup; it looks nice. But I’m going to repeat my advice to “Quiet”; your font is so very small.

If you wish to change this, go to Themes and hit the Customize button. (left hand pop-out side bar.) Then you’ll get another row of choices on your left side, with a display of your Home page at right. Select Fonts and try out a few others, or just leave it at the default font but up the font size. You get choices of small, med, and large. Once you’ve set things up the way they look best to you, then hit the button up top that says Save & Publish. And you’re done.

    1. I really liked the post. Petrichor is such a beautiful word. Your imaginative and descriptive content was flawless and vivid with a stroke of vibrancy. Funny thing, I also posted one quite some days ago with the title “Petrichor” however, the content wasn’t directly related to it. Anyways it was a great read. Would love if you could stop by and leave a feedback on my page.
      Thanks a ton! 🙂

    1. Your blog looks nice! However, Word Press must have come out with a new theme with a super tiny font. Yours is the third blog I’ve looked at today that should enlarge the font size! (Or I need to see my eye specialist. 😉 )

If you wish to enlarge your font size, please read the note I left a few comments above to “Scraps of My Mind.”

    1. I noticed your blog has placeholder texts on your sidebar. Do remove/edit them using the “Text Widget” section of your Theme Customizer and get your “About” page written up. And as always keep writing. Cheers! 🙂

    1. I love your blog! You seem to have the same reading interests as me 🙂 It looks great to me. I also followed you on instagram because your pictures are also pretty awesome. Good luck with everything! Maybe just add a widget that allows people to follow your blog (unless I’m stupid and just can’t find it!).

  2. Hello,
I started my blog just over a week ago because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst i’m here on a gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but im writing about travel, health and food so if you’re willing to give it a read.
I’d love that and to hear what people think. Hope you’re having a lovely day.

    1. I think you’re extremely brave for taking a gap year and admire you for that! I wish I had done the same. The best advice I can think is to make sure you proofread all of your posts a couple of times before you publish them. If you can catch those tiny little errors, it will make your writing that much better and your readers happy 🙂 best of luck to you and I look forward to reading about your adventures!

      1. I agree! My first stop will be Taiwan 🙂 Then I plan on traveling to Norway, Germany, and Africa (not sure which country in Africa yet, there are sooo many places to choose from). OMG New Zealand, I hope you get to travel there! I really want to visit Hobbiton 😀

    1. Your header is lovely! As for your quote about nature being embodied with love, I keep trying to tell my cats that when they want to catch the birds in our yard! 🙂 I’d say nature is embodied with survival — whatever that takes. Thankfully we humans can move beyond nature to real love.

It looks like you have lots of ideas for posts, but if I were you I’d write them and store them to post sometime when you don’t have time to write something new. Times like that you’ll find it’s great to have something in your files ready to go. If you publish more than two posts a day chances are some of your posts won’t get read. Most bloggers are already reading dozens of blog posts every day. I have a friend who’d often post a dozen short poems a day — and I only read maybe four of them.

Tags and categories are important. They spread the word about your posts and they become your filing system once you have a number of posts up. Check out https://en.wordpress.com/tags for ideas. Word Press allows up to fifteen Ts & Cs per post, so try and use as many as pertain to the post. Some of the most common are Personal, Opinions, Thoughts, Reflections, Home, Family, Health. People, Nature.

      All the best.

    2. Your Blog is very diversified, positive and inspiring. However one advise would be to get your “About” page written up. and as always keep writing with the same passion and dedication. Would really appreciate a feedback on my page, if you would like to visit.

    3. Hey Shilpi, it was amazing visiting your blog. The first post was good and you’re off to a flying start. Congratulations and welcome to the WordPress family. However, I noticed you have some placeholder texts on your sidebar which you need to remove/edit by using the “Text Widget” section of your Theme Customizer. Along with which do get your “about” page written up as reader love to know more about their authors. Also I would recommend you to visit the themes section to construct your page into a more visually appealing one. After all you are the writer and the page your book, make it look as exquisitely vibrant as it can. “categories” and “Tags” are important as they help you stay organized and help the readers to know what they are actually up for while visiting your site. I hope you achieve all you’re aspiring to as a blogger and do keep writing with the same passion and dedication. I would really appreciate if you could leave any comment (feedback, review, suggestion, remarks, or criticism) on my blog page. Hope you have a good read. Thanks again. Cheers! 🙂
