Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. That bits always the hardest at first, but I think you’ll find bloggers are incredibly supportive. I started expecting nothing and have been amazed at how much support and help comes in. Even on very emotive topics. Good on you though for getting it out x

    1. This is a beautiful piece, I think toxic friendships are awful because cutting them off is so difficult, you feel like you’re in the wrong until you realise that you are more important than the friendship. I feel for you and I’m glad you got your thoughts out on your blog, hugs to you x

    1. Hi, I really like this post, the attack in Manchester was an awful tragedy. The content that you have written is really beautiful. My only suggestion would be that your paragraphs are very long and could possibly do with being slightly more broken up. Obviously not a comment on the content, as I think you touched on a really important issue in not giving publicity to the disgusting creatures who carried out the attack.

      1. Thank you for your feedback! I’ve actually thought of that myself each blog post I’ve written, I’ve always been more of a story writer and I tend to forget myself when I’m writing! Thank you very much for your feedback😊 your blog is looking great! X

      2. Hahaha! I had the same feedback from someone else and when I read back over my posts I realised they could do with being split up a bit! 😊 Thank you for looking over my blog! X

    1. Your theme looks to really dependent on pictures, so choose wisely. You’ve been doing a good job so far, though. Anyway, ‘Change’ looks to be very engaging, even if it’s something deeply personal. You’re trying to connect to the reader through your experiences, but it doesn’t sound like it’s all about you, so the reader is part of the conversation.

Nit-pick though – don’t just call your posts ‘ramblings.’ Your voice is more than ramblings. Besides, too many people call their blogs ‘ramblings’ or ‘rants’ or ‘musings’ or whatever flavor of randomness befits them. Stand from the crowd!

    2. It looks like you’re off to a good start; “Change” is a friendly piece, doesn’t drag, has some good advice — like “write it down” and “walk it out” — and that Coelho quote is a great closer. One thing you might want to consider is adding a few widgets to give readers another way to browse your site. Hope this helps.

  1. I used to contribute writing prompts to a bunch of really good writers both live and on line. Circumstance stopped that but I missed it terribly so I resurrected the prompting on a new site here on wordpress I named it aooga.com and you can find it here:

Check it out please, let me know what you think! Thanks in advance for your help and play along if you are so inclined.

      1. Hello Wealthpedia,
Thanks for sharing feedback with so many bloggers here — I’m sure they appreciate it. When you do so, however, I’d like to ask you not to add a link to your own post with every comment — we call this a “plug,” and many consider it a form of spamming. A gentle one, to be sure, but still — I think it’s best to keep the focus on the blogger you’re replying to, and they can always (and often do) click on your name to visit your latest posts anyway. Thank you!

    1. I have two pieces of feedback for you. One, consider adding an About page so new readers can get to know you and your blog. And Two, there’s a block of code at the bottom of your blog that you should clean up.
      Happy blogging!

    1. How long do you plan to keep your blog? If you are fairly certain it will be long term, your own domain might be a good idea. If you aren’t sure, it could be a waste of money. I waited several months to be sure it was something I wanted to keep for the long haul. https://gracelead.co

    1. Your post was a good read. It is interesting to ponder questions like this. I’m a mixture. Sometimes, I am extremely organized. I can listen to a conversation between people and quickly create a project plan to guide them in how to get a task completed. On the other hand, I don’t try to do a daily calendar. I put meetings in my electronic calendar with alerts to remind several days before the meeting. Otherwise, I do whatever comes to mind. https://gracelead.co

  4. Warm Greetings,

I recently collaborated on a poem that pertains to bullying. Growing up, in high school I was bullied & that had a major impact on my personality. So this poem I have tried to illustrate the emotions from the point of view of a person who is victimized by the spineless act of bullying & tried to criticize this heartless practice that potentially can corrupt a person’s true self. the link to the poem is as follows:

Please do let me know what you think about this poem 🙂

  5. Writing isn’t about words
    My fellow, writers
    I’m sure you agree
    It isn’t about phrases
    Nor extravagant vocabulary
    It isn’t about impressing
Not by looking up words in the dictionary
    It isn’t about the rhyme
    Nor about the likes
It’s about your love for words
    About yourself
Your past, your present, your future
    Your mind, penned down
    Neither simple, not complex
    But touching, to the heart
    It’s about expression
    Not a competition!
Write away to your heart’s glory
For it is proof that you are alive.
