Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Thanks! I’ll admit I’m probably a bit biased since I mostly listen to a lot of Alternative/Rock but I’ll try my best to spread my wings 🙂

    1. That song is totally my jam now. Can you do a post on the artist “Through Juniper Vale”, that would be awesome. I love your blog, it has some great suggestions. Keep sharing 🙂

    1. I liked your blogpost, your writing is good, however I noticed you have placeholder texts on your sidebar which you need to remove using the “Text Widget” section of your Theme Customizer. Secondly an advise would be to work on your theme and avoid using stock pictures/ images which have watermarks overlay and do use categories and tags for your posts. And as always keep writing. Cheers! 🙂

  1. Hello all. I started on Word Press less than a month ago. I’ve been writing poetry for about 20 years and have quite a collection. Some are horrible and will never see the light of day, but others I thought worth sharing. So with such a resource to draw from, I began my blog with 30 days of poetry as a way to get me in the habit of blogging every day. Here’s a link to my first poetry post. Feedback appreciated. Thanks. https://theabundantheartblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/09/

    1. Hi Angela! I enjoyed reading your poem. And on the reasons why you love to write poetry. I love reading poetry. It’s always about the meaning beyond the words that gets to me.

    2. Hey I love your poetry ! I am an artist, and what I have learned as a creative person is that what you may not like is what may appeal to the world! So keep sharing all your work while we get the opportunity to choose our favorites!
      Happy blogging ! 😀

    1. What’s wrong with being quiet? People can be so quick to classify others. Love the peace that sometimes come with silence and just being. All the best!

    2. Hello Rebecca, your writing is crisp, concise and, over all an excellent read. I enjoyed it especially because you brought forth the often common human act of making a expressing an observation of anothers’s behaviour that the observer deems being out of the societal norm. Excellent.
There was also one particular element within your post that grabbed my attention related to loved ones questioning if you have bipolar. You initially rebut their amateur diagnosis but also leave open the possibility of not really knowing. There is nothing unusual to have moments of being an extrovert followed by a return to ones norm of being introverted. Concern should only rise if that return to introversion is also a return to a state of depression. Being introverted and being clinically depressed are to distinct things. When your loved ones mentioned bipolar were they basing that comment on seeing just a change in personality or also a significate change in mood?
Thank you for good read. Looking forward to following your journey.

      1. Hi Kim. Thank you for your comment! That’s a good point about people pointing out behavior that is not the norm. Also, I think sometimes people do confuse introversion with depression. I’m very interested in mental health and, in part, I’ll be using my blog to convey interesting information I learn in my research of depression.

    1. Hey, I went through your blog, looks like you have some placeholder text on your sidebar which you need to remove/edit using the “Text Widget” section of your theme customizer and an advise would be to refrain from using condensed words. There’s a huge room for improvement and you have a long way to go. Keep writing with the same passion and dedication. Cheers! 🙂

It may not eventuate, but the fear has propelled me to start writing about the nature of home and the memories I’ve collected along the way.

  4. I have always wanted to write. My writing theme was limited to college essays, thesis and my readers were my friends and professors. Being a non-native speaker I had a hesitation to write English. But we have to go through the test to succeed, We have to write to become a writer.
So here I am shedding all my hesitation and trying to get better and better.

This is my first blog post. It is a prompt reply post. Please go through it

    2. Get rid of that search from the bottom and instead of typing the whole url for Instagram, you can make use of social media buttons. Try using widgets that suits your style of blog and I don’t see a Like/reblog option in your post. You can add those in your post settings. Header Image is a must.

  7. Hello,
I started my blog a week ago because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst i’m here on a gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but im writing about travel, health and food so if you’re willing to give it a read i’d love that and to hear what people think. Hope you’re having a lovely day.

    1. If nothing else, through your travels and your writing, you have an opportunity to reflect upon your gap year and give yourself something to look forward to in the future (well, more than dread, anyway). Treat your blog that way – it’ll be good to you.

Speaking of treating your blog, perhaps you could also spend a couple of hours in the Customizer playing with color schemes, maybe try out a new theme (you can always go back), get rid of some of the default texts. After all, this blog is going to be something important, why not make it feel like home?

    1. I noticed a quite a lot of grammatical errors, try revising your content again before uloading it. Like it should be “exist within” rather than “exit within” , “this is a complicated language” rather than “This is complicated language”. Another thing I noticed, your blog is that you have some placeholder text which you need to remove using the “Text Widget” section of your theme customizer. 1. Thank you, Lisa, for your incredibly kind and thoughtful words. I so very much appreciated them. I am so sorry to hear that you have also lost your mate. It is such an incredibly painful loss. I am so very sorry you have to be on this grief path. It is a rollercoaster of emotions and one, sadly, that is usually ridden alone. That has been the most difficult part… the aloneness of grieving. I can only tell you that i know the incredible pain in the dark of the nights or, hell, for that matter in the bright light of the day. I am withbyou in spirit. Sending my strength to you (incredible that I can even say those words. But it does get better. And, for what it’s worth, we do get stronger. -Kim

    1. One, you begin by writing. Now that you got that out of the way, you move on to two – keep writing. That’s pretty much it – good blogging is a learned skill, and like any skill, it requires practice.

Also, why not check out the Customizer? You could play with themes, colors, change some of your Text Widgets, whatever you like. Perhaps once you get to know your blog better, the more you would want to post on it. That way, you get your practice and you’re motivated to be more aware of your surroundings and your inner workings – perfect for finding new material to write about.
