Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hey there, everyone!!

I haven’t been able to post must the past week, but I’m working on that now! I’ve started a new story called “Hues” and was wondering if you guys would check it out? I am linking part 1 and part 2.

Any feedback on my blog in general, my writing, the story (or other stories if you check them out too), or even the photography, I would super appreciate the advice on how to make my blog more open and inviting for people to come and check it out.

    Thanks all!

    1. Hey Mishelley,

Visited your blog, love your work with the painting of the angel btw, that was some top notch piece of art after the paint job. Just amazing.

For the menu wise, I wouldn’t look at every single menu. For one, I am not interested in DIY nor designing stuff so I can’t tell for those who are lol.
There might be some who would, naturally.

When I first landed on the site, I clicked on Coffee Chatter only because I used to work as a Barista and love coffee as well. Not sure about others though. Oh yeah, definitely loved the content in that page lol it’s so funny!

As for the Affiliate links, that is something that I want to talk about a little more.
Thing is, I’ve seen people, reviewed their blogs where they have affiliates links up even for products, which they don’t use themselves and I think that is just bad. I hope that is not the case for you.

But regardless, my thoughts with the added affiliate links actually made your site look really messy. I talk more about it in the stream, hope you’ll check it out as I touch on suggestions on how to keep the affiliate links and make your blog look cleaner.

Now, I want you to know, I don’t think what you’re doing is bad or any thing negative, instead I can tell you’ve put a lot of work, effort and time into this blog and I just want to help you make your work look more appealing so hope you won’t take offend from my criticism here.

Hope this helps and talk to you again soon!

      Your pal,
      Benjamin

      1. Thank you!! Very much appreciated and in fact I was thinking the affiliate links looked “messy” as well! It’s very late in the evening here in Florida and I just happened to find myself here and it was the best find of the day! Thank you all for taking time out to review!

    2. Great writing but for something about an aspect of design I think the way the pictures loaded was not great. The header image is really low resolution and that’s distracting. And at least on my computer the pictures in the articles were all over the page and not aligned well, which meant the text was not in easy to read blocks.
The email could go in a quote block and try and keep things centred and symmetrical top to bottom and it will be much easier to read.

      Good luck!

      1. What would make the pictures load differently? I am going to get a better camera this week! Wish word press would let me see my blog in the same view others do! On a techy side of things what do I need to do?

      2. I think it may be the theme you are using. When you add pictures try and choose the centre alignment option for all of them, and resize only if you need to. I’m not sure why it would be happening, but check out different themes. I use one called Dyad which is good for images and text like this

        Lessons from a Mountain

I just added the picture at the header as a featured image. Then the others were added using the add media button.

        Hope this helps!

  2. Hi everyone. Just want your feedback on how does my blog appeal to you. I want it more friendly and simplistic. So I would really appreciate your suggestions and I will try to work on it. Also more importantly on the content and navigation. Thanks a lot! http://LynDurante.com/

    1. Hi there,
I think your blog is great, with loads of diverse topics. I like how personal you make it, one thing I would like to see more of is colours and or pictures, especially in some of the longer posts just to help break up some of the text. But keep up the good work!

      1. Thnx a lot, will get my references with the article itself.
I had actually thought about it but thought that it would break the interest.
But yeah i realise it will better to de-clutter the menu.
        thanx for the help! 🙂

  4. Hello all, I’m new to blogging and I am still using the free WordPress plan. I’m using the Canard theme but was wondering which, in your opinion, is the best free theme to use and do you see a difference with a paid plan?

    1. I doubt that there is one best theme to fit the needs of all bloggers. There are themes which work well for emphasizing photographs. Others work well for posts that are mostly text. Some bloggers prefer a modern, crisp look. Others prefer something cozy or artistic. When I switched from a free plan to a paid plan, I did not change themes. What changed was that I had more options in customizing my theme and I did not have to be bothered with ads showing up on posts. https://gracelead.co

  5. Hi WordPress family! I started my photography blog nearly 18 months ago and would love to get your feedback on the layout and content – particularly given that the layout is so image intensive (but all feedback welcomed too!). Thanks for checking it out!
I would also love to hear from other photography bloggers about your experiences and so please leave links to your blogs in the reply!

    1. Hey! I’ve looked at your blog and think it is good, with some good content, one thing I would suggest is maybe playing around with the layout as some posts are quite long and I found myself scrolling up and down to not miss some
