Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

You’ve got a nice collection of poetry so far. I especially liked your most recent poem “Listen”. Looking forward to reading more!

  1. Happy Monday (or not) fellow bloggers!

I’ve recently tiptoed back into WordPress after being MIA for a few weeks and this is my first flash fiction piece since being back ~> https://jademwong.wordpress.com/2017/05/19/flash-fiction-red-glass-crystals/

Would love suggestions on improving descriptions and making the story more gripping to the reader. It’s a 154 word piece about heartbreak with a “hellish” supernatural setting 😉

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,
    Jade ~

    1. The internet can never have enough book blogs, as I always say!

I like your 8 Charming Fridays feature. I don’t know if I’ll participate, but maybe I’ll pop in for a week 🙂 One suggestion: maybe you can consider using a different header image? It looks very blurry and pixelated on my computer.

Good luck with your book blogging endeavor! ^_^

    1. Great blog, Phoebe! I love how visual everything is.

Advice for growing your blog: hmm…maybe make it a little more easy to navigate? I think if you focus on honing down your categories, then readers who find your blog will know exactly where to go next to find the topics they’re interested in 🙂

      Good luck!

    1. Seems like an interesting novel, I might have to check it out.

I read your post about the Murder on the Orient Express reboot. Having only recently read the book, I was thinking about watching the 1974 movie. I’ll probably still watch the reboot too, seems to have a decent cast.

      1. It’s worth it (although it won’t become a favorite of mine)!

Can highly recommend the 1974 movie. It’s everything you can hope for if you liked the book, I would say! And I agree that the cast is definitely one of the big draws of the remake. Guess I’m going to end up watching it too. 🙂

  2. Hi everyone!
Well it’s been quite some times since the first post and we’ve made it this far with only the highest motivation due to the community support.
It’d be grateful if you’d check out the blog now, see what it’s turned out to be and even look at the newer posts, maybe leave a few comments on any improvements necessary or even the things you liked about the blog.

    1. Your post was informative and relatable! I really liked your counter-idea to “write every day” because while that is a noble goal to have, for some of us, it’s just not feasible. Writing in small chunks is a great idea!

  3. Hey everyone. I’ve recently started my blog and would love some feedback. please go check it out…Its called “WELCOME TO New York”. its about an incident with a stranger that changed my life perspective. Also I’m not a writer or anything, I’m just doing it for fun… Please let me know what you think about it 🙂

  4. Hi everyone! I’ve heard various things about what an ideal post length would be. I love writing, but am used to forums where I can use at least 800 words…and I believe that is probably too long for most blog posts. Am I right? Anyway, I wrote a recent post whose length I’m curious about. I’d appreciate it if you would read it and tell me what you think about it. Is the length okay? Thanks! https://feelingsuicidalblog.wordpress.com/2017/05/18/rejection-wholeness-and-peace/

    1. So interesting! Also a coincidence as my last blog post is about privilege and being white in Hawaii. I have been to SA on a mission trip and I am a bit aware of the racial situation there. I think it is outstanding that you, as a white man, are working to bring light to the system of white privilege. So many are oblivious.

My husband is a professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan. I’m going to share your blog with him and see what he thinks.

      Kind regards,

      Shelly

    1. Aloha Harvey! I think your blog is fascinating! I was never good with math or science but I am intrigued by it (and by people who love it). You certainly are covering a wide range of topics-impressive!

I gave you a follow… I’m sure you won’t disappoint. Keep up the good work.

      1. Aloha and thank you very much! You may not have realised that there are actually two of us here at the Nexus (Yanhao says “Aloha”), so make sure you don’t give me all the credit! I hope that our blog is able to broaden and enrich your scientific curiosity as much as possible.

  6. Hi! I’m Nicole, a blogger from the Philippines. My most recent post would be about my trip to one of the most trending places that can be found in Cebu – the 10,000 Roses Cafe. I’ve been busy for the past couple of days so no new posts but will post a new one tomorrow and a couple more this week – mostly a continuation of my UK trip and maybe some food reviews!

Anyway, feel free to check out my blog and I hope you have a nice day! 💖

    1. Your honesty is supported by your knowledge of what privilege life has provided for you. It is a post that many of us can relate to and it helps to know that shame brought on by being white is not a solitary emotion felt by just one person.

      1. And how quickly after recognising how privileged we are do we slip back into our self-entitled ways…(I.e. Me after returning from Everest Base Camp and the poverty of Nepal…check out my post about it…)
