Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Very informative. The tips and advises may prove to be really beneficial in case such a scenario turns up. I guess after reading it, I can clearly say I’m pretty much secured during an economic crisis if it does turns up. Thanks for sharing and as always keep writing 🙂

      1. Wow you have a really nice theme! It looks so clean and easy on the eyes. What theme is that? Your layout is great and I think the simplicity of your titles and the way you right makes it very enjoyable to read!

    1. Really like your site (as you may have noticed from all the comments, sorry for the spam). Followed! Hope you can give mine a few minutes of your time too!

    1. Just commented! Nice content, nice photo. My suggestion: watch your tags. In total, you can use 15 tags and categories — right now you have 16 (because “uncategorized” counts as a category, plus you 15 tags). This means that WordPress will block your post from Reader, and it will be harder for new readers to find you 😦 Consider removing a tag — maybe “coffee cup”?

    2. Hello! I like the story you tell about the growth surgery. It was interesting and had personality. I think you could enhance the writing if the story was a bit more concise. Also you may want to consider cutting down on the use of contractions (didn’t, won’t, etc), but that’s just a personal preference. Hope this was helpful!

    3. I so hate stitches. But the way you described the whole scenario as I was standing myself there in the operation theater . I hope you’re doing great now and all the best for your days ahead. Keep writing as always ,Cheers! 🙂

    1. Just commented! I love those quotes 🙂 My suggestion: consider tagging “harry potter” or “dumbledore” to get more views. You can use up to 15 categories and tags total, and adding these two might get more hits because lots of people search for Harry Potter related posts!

    1. A nice piece! One possible suggestion? Maybe add some screencaps. I think it would add more substance and colour to the post. Otherwise, it’s great!

    1. Really good read, the quote from the bible was motivating. However I noticed you are using a lot of tags and categories, considering WordPress actually filters out posts having 15 or more number of tags and categories combined. Consider using the most relevant tags and reducing the number. And as always keep writing. Cheers! 🙂

  1. Hello fellow bloggers,

Kindly find attached the link to my fifth post on the concept of “Jihad.”
In this post, I shed some light on the religious and political situations encompassing Arabia during the time of Prophet Muhammad.
I hope you find it interesting to learn about the perspective of main stream Muslims regarding Jihad, and how they revere and understand it.

    1. Just commented. Nice content, good use of images, good tagging. My suggestion — who said those two quotes you have italicized in your post? Maybe attribute them to the person who said them, and then use the person’s name as a tag to draw in readers who likes that person’s work!

      1. Thank you for the feedback! Honestly I don’t remember who originally said those quotes 🙈. Those are really great suggestions! Sure, I would love to check out your work!

  2. Hello everyone! The Finest Bagels team has been flying a bit under the radar for a few weeks, as two of our editors were out of town for a month.

However, we’re back and firing on all cylinders again, and our offering to you is this: an article written by our own Tom Warwick, who wrote a poem in the style of The Raven to commemorate his visit to the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond

    1. For mine I go into the CMS (the wordpress dashboard) and edit the page.
Then just add links to the page to the blog posts that I’d like to include. Does that make sense?

I am not sure if I explained it very well, so I’ll leave a link to a page so you can see what I mean: https://www.awalkandalark.com/north-downs-way/ Each post is linked to that page…so I have to go back and edit the page each time I’d like to add a new section of the walk.

    2. Not sure if I have an answer for you – are you thinking about creating a page of all the posts of a particular category, or just include one or two particular posts along with other content on a page?

    3. Hello,
It sounds like you want to group together several posts on different pages — besides the stream of all your posts on your blog’s homepage. You have a couple of ways of going about this:
      1. Category pages: these bring all your posts that share the same category into one single page. You can learn how to create these here: https://wordpress.com/support/posts/categories/
      2. For more granular control of the posts you show on a page, you can use the Display Posts Shortcode. It might look a little complicated at first, but really is straightforward once you get the hang of it — you can learn about this shortcode here: https://wordpress.com/support/display-posts-shortcode/

      Good luck with your site!

    1. Was a good read. Agreed to the points. And I noticed that you’re using a lot of tags and categories considering WordPress actually filters out posts having 15 or more number of tags and categories combined. Remove the number of tags and keep the most relevant ones. And have you ever posted anything in complete German, would love to give it a read. And as always keep writing. Cheers! 🙂

      1. Hm. Thanks

And not yet, nothing fully in German. Haven’t felt confortable enough yet, although I know it would be a perfect exercise to force it a bit.

  3. I always enjoy reading different people’s conceptualizations of home, what it is, and what it means. Thanks for writing & sharing with us! Though I haven’t had the experience of living abroad, a number of your points resonated with me. Best wishes for your upcoming return to South Africa.

Not at all trying to self promote on your post here, but I once wrote a bit about my thoughts on home as well that seems appropriate to share here: https://asecondhandnature.com/2017/02/14/to-home-with-love/

    1. Hey, I check your Tokyo Ghoul review and I liked it, but you could definitely add more! I can see you have a good writing style, but the post wasn’t long enough to really give you a chance to shine. Write more! 😆

I think with depression, it’s really important that people don’t try to ‘fix’ you, rather to accept that you feel as you do right now, but as you say: to do things that might make you smile for 5 seconds. 🙂

      1. I think you’re right! I do understand why it’s hard for people not to try to “fix” it though — it hurts to watch people you care about suffer.

  5. Happy Monday (and Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadians)
My latest post is about positivity, which is something I’ve decided I want to have more of, especially in my jokes and the way I present myself.
Do you have any tips of suggestions on how to live a more positive life?

    Positively Positive!!!

    1. I read your post and liked how honest it was. As another Knope disciple, I like to think about three things I like about myself each day. It sounds like new age crap but it works for me 😅
Very enjoyable read and keep it up x

    1. Just commented! Nice content, good use of tags, nice picture. My suggestion: consider using categories. Tags help new readers find your blog, and categories organize your posts within your blog. You can use up to 15 categories and tags total, and the bonus of using categories is that readers who want to see more of the same type of post can easily find them with categories.

    2. Coincidence – I too just wrote a post on friendship. Sorry about your friend though, that is rough. Your writing is good, engaging. Constructive criticism, this is just a personal opinion, I like smaller pictures (unless you are showing your photography skills) so I don’t have to keep scrolling to get to the writing. But very nice overall.
