Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. I posted a comment in one of your posts. I liked your train of thought.

I’ve been blogging here for about two months and a week. I have about 150 followers, which I think is pretty good for that period of time. My secrets were:

        1. Write posts based on the Daily Post words whenever you can and make sure they land there as a tile.

        2. Pick your tag words and category names effectively.

        3. Read, like, and comment on a lot of other peoples’ posts, especially initially those of people with similar interests as you. [Do a search to find similar blogs.] Also read, post and comment on posts in the Daily Post. When you get followers, make sure you follow the ones you like to reciprocate. Show interest in their posts whenever you can.

        4. Post here in the Community Pool frequently.

        5. Respond to other peoples’ comments on your posts as quickly as possible.

        6. Find posts like https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/35274684/posts/1441452673 that allow you to include a link to one of your favorite posts.

      2. Yes I do remember. Thanks for that. Also this, I haven’t quite thought much on reading and commenting on other posts. I really should do that more often. Thanks a lot

      3. Definitely do. I know it can be a lot of work, but if you do the work for others, they do the work for you. Do follow blogs that you find interesting. They often follow you in return. And bloggers that follow you, should definitely be given the courtesy of you reading their blogs and following theirs, if they seem interesting.

  4. Because he lives.

Hi everyone, so last night, i led a church service last night for the first time ever, and in my time at that church, i heard a song that broke my heart in the best possible way, and i want ed to touch on why i think that the lyrics to this song are important to Christians that have been through the darkness of suicidal tendencies and why it’s important to remember that life is worth the living because he lives!

  5. Hey all! I’ve been having an identity crisis at my blog. I love my layout but I’ve noticed, despite heavy traffic, I’m not gaining followers. I’m worried the layout has something to do with it- thoughts?

    1. I really like the main page – pictures are great! When I click on the actual blog post though, the main picture takes a lot of space up and the font is kind of large. I think your topics are fun but because of the size of the picture and the font size, you do have to scroll a lot.

    2. I liked this post a lot! I write about romance and relationships. I did find it rather long though and do tend to follow bloggers who write shorter and often rather than really long blogs. That’s just me though! I thought the layout worked well too

      1. Most are the same. We live in a world where people want their information as fast as possible. Accuracy be damned. That’s why BuzzFeed is so popular. Everything is in point form garbage. Just as bad, are the people who get their news from Facebook and YouTube comments lol.

    3. Your writing style is very hooking, I’m jealous. I love all your memes and pictures. Also love your page tag line. :3 (PS: I think your pictures are fine.) Have you tried putting posts on pinterest? It’s draws high traffic. I haven’t done much yet, but 9/10 sites suggest doing pinterest group boards. *followed!*

      1. Thansk! I ended up re-working my layout last night because I couldn’t sleep. I’m happy with the new theme and it makes it easier for people to find stuff.
Thanks for the follow! Hope I can keep ya hooked!!

      1. When I read the unabridged book, I relied on my knowledge of the musical. As a matter of fact, the movie of the musical was my first full exposure to Les Mis

  7. Hello Community,

I wrote a short story about ideologies of different people with a political background. The story discusses how and why an ideology could be perceived by different people. I would appreciate your feedback on the content, writing, and the blog as whole.

    1. I think you made a good point. For an experiment, try using the exact words when speaking to a dog. One time, use a soft, soothing tone of voice. Another time, use a loud, aggressive tone of voice. Notice the difference in the dog’s reaction, even though the words were identical. https://gracelead.co

    2. I agree. Coming from a strict household, any sarcasm and talk back comes back to me. /sigh/ I’m not hot tempered, but I definitely need to control myself better. Easier said than done, right?

  8. Have you ever lost a furry “kid?” I lost one of my cats over the weekend and I’d like to invite everyone to read my goodbye/tribute poem and a photograph. Rufus was such a friendly little guy and will be missed. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page as well, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

    1. The Header looks good and the site is well-organized. It would be nice to see a few words on your About page to tell us the purpose of your site. I looked at your summer list post. A bulleted list would be more visually pleasing. https://gracelead.co
