Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I’d like to invite everyone to check out my poem, “Tombstone.” It’s a poem for the broken-hearted, beautifully depressed. Please stop by and give it a read. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page as well, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

  2. Does your town have weird quirks that you just sort of accept, even if they don’t make any sense? Of course it does; every town does. Mine requires you to buy special blue bags for your trash in addition to the dump sticker you have to buy for your car.

Satirizing this and more with twice-weekly posts in the Fauxhasset Paroder. Let me know if the tone and content made you laugh, or if I missed the mark! Thanks fam

    1. You have me trying to think of quirky things in my town! Nothing comes to mind right this second but I know next time I go through town I’m going to be looking for them hahaha. Great post! 🙂

      1. Thank you! It’s easier to notice the quirks when you’re in the new biz… you see the sort of stuff people complain about at public meetings and in letters to the editor. And you either have to laugh about it or kill yourself. So many first world problems

    1. Any blog that hits me with popups I don’t tend to read. I’d like to see your content, not an email popup telling me to enter my info and subscribe. Also, your monetization ads are just as large as your posts.

I closed the annoying popup, and looked passed the ads – and I do like your work. You write well and tell fascinating stories.

But blocking your hard work with popups, from my point of view, would make me initially skip your site all together.

    1. Child Bye! This post was fantastic! I still don’t understand why people think getting married means the well goes dry. I’d say the well fills to overflowing!

    1. Your site has a calming presence to it. Perhaps the articles combined with the theme. I don’t know if that makes much sense but, I like it 🙂

    1. Great post with amazing photos. However, as someone sitting in a hotel right now with a 3AM departure time – I can’t stand this part of traveling!

      1. I completely understand – I am currently packing my things to leave from Canada to Israel for 2.5 years. On the bright side, although goodbyes are tough at least we grow from these experiences 😊 And I think it makes us value our friendships even more

      2. Portugal basically has 1 month of winter, where Canada has 11. So, yea 🙂 — I’ve never seen anything like it. We could have gone to the beach Christmas day.

    1. Your post was a good read. It did a nice job of explaining why gossip is so appealing. I also liked the leaky roof analogy to explain the danger of gossip. I noticed a tiny spelling error. “finding common enemy’s” should be “finding common enemies.” https://gracelead.co

  3. Happy Monday 🙂 My post yesterday was about something I think is a universal struggle: Do you ever feel like there just isn’t enough time? I’d love for you to check out the post and let me know what you think. How do you make your time more valuable? https://nostalgiadiaries.com/2017/04/23/week-16-in-search-of-spare-moments-everyday-nostalgia/

Today we also put out a fun playlist of songs to start your day off right. We asked our community of followers what song they would listen to every morning, and we ended up with a playlist of 46 eclectic songs. We just love our Music Monday posts! Check it out here: https://nostalgiadiaries.com/2017/04/24/46-songs-to-start-your-day-off-right/

    1. Wow this post really got me thinking about time. I feel like sometimes I’m wasting the greatest gift that was given to me which is time. Looking forward to your posts!

    2. Even when I spend the whole day just reading, or writing, I still don’t have enough time. I want to delay sleep to keep a good day rollin’

    1. Great pics on your site! I would love to have read more about what your saw, people you met, or things that were interesting about the care show. I liked your story about zip lining. Consider trading out “fun” for a few new adjectives. I look forward to reading about more of your adventures.

    1. I really appreciated the detail provided in your book reviews. Your flash fiction about Figaro and the bar fight has a great balance of suspense and characterization. Nicely done!

    1. Your poetry is so well done! I enjoyed the simplicity of your design and the complexity of your words. Maybe consider adding a side or top menu for easier navigation and searching of your posts or to share the previous comments of readers.

  4. Hello everyone,
My new blog post is about doctors and what’s it like to become one. Also it covers a recent issue that has been taken over by media all over. I thought, bringing it to everyone’s notice would be better and obviously couldn’t have found any better platform for that.
    Here’s the link : http://shivanichoudhary.wordpress.com/2017/04/19/lets-talk-about-doctors/
    I hope you like it..
Your opinions are most welcome, do let me know what you feel about it.
    Thank you xD

    1. I saw your blog, you have good writing style. The only suggestion I have is to break the monotony of text with some quality images. This will keep the readers engaged. Also giving an excerpt of the blog post on the home page will helpyour audience find the right content.

I write about Beauty, Lifestyle & Design. Do swing by and let me know what you think. I would appreciate any feedback that you might have. 🙂

    1. As far as attracting more users, or engaging the current subscribers, it comes down to the subject of the posts. For example, would people rather read a short story by you, view a photograph, or hear a review? Probably all of the above. I don’t know many people who would want to know about your sons T Ball game. And please, not that there is anything at all wrong with that. It’s just such a niche subject. The people who would visit would probably just be other mothers.

That being said, you should always write about whatever makes you happy, especially if you are not monetizing your blog. In the long run, you will be happier, not hit blogger burn out, and the subscribers you do get will follow for a longer period of time.

Are you familiar with garbage, brain rotting sites like BuzzFeed? They post pop culture, top XX lists of nonsense, but because they are all about $$$ thats what brings in the hits.

I hope that feedback was helpful 🙂

      1. Thank you, Mark! I realize some of my more personal posts may not bring in the reader feedback, but many people have shared their connections with my stories to me verbally. I am definitely making effort to market through pop culture sites. It has helped but I am still new to that genre of posting. I appreciate your feedback very much. It was very honest and insightful!
