Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. You have a good eye I would say. The learning curve of photography can be steep…if you want it to be that way. It is also possible to just get out there, take as many shots as you can and enjoy it. Play around with the settings until you figure out what they do. Make notes about what works and what doesn’t so when you are out in the field you will know.

      1. Thank you for that. That’s exactly what I did for the first few days. Experimenting every mode. But I don’t like clicking randomly. It should convey something or at least I should find it catchy.

      2. Oh definitely. I just meant I’m still learning all that my camera can do and sometimes you can overthink the approach so quite often, I just skip all the settings and take the photo the way I want to see. Catchy, like you say.

    2. Oh I love photography – the best thing about it is that you’ll keep discovering useful techniques by actually making “mistakes” 😀

    3. Photography is so much fun. I love getting those pictures you never meant to capture. Take a random shot, come home and look on it on your computer and get that ‘woah’ feeling.

    1. Unique blog mate, I like it 🙂 – So young too. Back in my day, the only entertainment was a stick and your own shadow. Let alone something as fancy as the net! – Welcome

  6. First there were monkeys, then Neanderthals and then modern day Dads. They are the wipers of bum bums, the makers of bottles, the changer of clothes. They can do everything Mommy can, except make ponytails. They bring home the dough, and they can bake the cake too. Here is food for your thought for why modern day Dads are owed some lovin’:

  7. Hi everyone. Ever look at a photo and have a song pop up in your head? That is the basic idea behind my blog. For my latest post, I wrote a tribute to one of my favorite books-Lark Rise To Candleford by Flora Thompson. Some might remember a TV show made of it a few years ago. Let me know what you think-https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/2017/04/19/lark-rising-a-tribute-to-flora-thompson/

Also, since it is Monday, its time for another Monochrome Mondays!

  8. I am needing some advice on a possible easier theme to use with my android app. I don’t have computer accessibility at this time. I am having a difficult time with linking to the daily prompt, and such. I want to participate, but lack the knowledge of the “how to” with my app. Just was wondering if I might find another theme easier to maneuver around based on a personal blog? Any feedback would be awesome. I find it no problem with content(that comes easy), it is the technical part that gets me. I am usually drained by the time I get just one small thing figured out.
Thank you in advance. I love it here…

    1. Try a theme with sidebars. One should do. Add your widgets there. Pages, new posts, top posts, whatever you need. Pick a theme with a smaller font. Right now, you really have to scroll and scroll to read your work. One, because of the theme, but mainly because the text is so huge and you use a lot of images (not a bad thing). I cant tell you what theme to use as, well, I’m not you lol – we all like different things. But you can search by layout, which will narrow it down.

If you cant get to a computer, a tablet would work as well. Anything with a larger screen than a phone, really.

      1. I do have a tablet, and I am coming upon a laptop next week. My mom loves me writing again, and has chosen to bless me with one. So I will dink around with it. I see it very differently from your vision. Thank you for the tips. It will take some time to do, but I need something a little more me anyways. Thanks for the great tips. I will take any help I can get. Always trying to improve upon well, all of what makes me me. This being a huge part. “Zang”(excellent) quoted from Wayne’s World. I figured out the daily prompt. Hotdog!! Lol. Super stoked now. ☕👍📝📚😄

    2. I would suggest doing a quick search for minimal, two column, responsive themes. The responsive themes are the ones most able to load fast on smartphones. Try and see if you can find a theme that keeps featured images small or consider only adding images to the posts that way your main page is easily navigable.

      1. Thank you. I am looking. I am getting a laptop this week. The images for me are just as important as my content. I will continue to post, while in look for the right theme. There are so many. Someone else said two columns as well. I looked for a bit last night, it got overwhelming. My mom was so excited to see my writing that she is blessing me with a laptop. So I am very excited. In the meantime my blog will look a little goofy, but hey I am still writing. Thank you for the tips. It took awhile before I got my first response. I was like come on people I am “gone girl here”, lost in the techy part of this dotcom. Help came did show though. Thanks again. Finding a theme that suit the person too, it is all a lot to manufacture. I will succeed though for I am loving it here📝😎👍📚☕

      2. Yeah you’ll be fine! I just changed my theme again to be more minimal because I got a few replies that the font size was too small. If you end up having anymore questions don’t hesitate to reach out again 😀
