Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I was interested in learning more about you and your book, but something is wrong with your site. When I scroll down to read one of the photos is so big that it’s impossible for me to see what you have written. I will try and Google your book. Sounds very inspirational. GOOD LUCK with sales!

      1. Having a similar issue. Looks like it’s a very large photo of the cover of your book? Otherwise, the site organization is helpful/intuitive!

    2. Your life looks like a grand adventure. Some general feedback about the post though, was the images we use on WP for Featured Images don’t resize on some themes. Therefore, you have a 3000×3000 picture taking up all your clean space. A resize would put all the tables back in order and not stretch the theme.

      Hope that helps!

    1. Wonderful story on fashion. There are some great designers listed. If I was more into fashion, I could offer “fashion feedback;” however, I always like seeing a learning about new fashions. Great post.

    1. I like the style of your blog, both from an aesthetic point of view but the content you write about. I like the humour with the two categories of ‘nothing’ and ‘something’. Wherever you decide to take your blog, I would consider keeping those two pages as it’s quite clever!

      1. If you’re referring to my material Jonny it’s all in my head honestly. Sometimes I’ll read something that makes me think and I come up with it or is something that I’m dealing with personally that makes me come up with it… And it’s stuff that pops into my head all day long Lol

    1. You write from the heart, and that will be therapeutic and exponentially helpful with your disability, and recovery. Keep writing, keep adding content, you’re doing great 🙂

    2. Firstly, I absolutely adore the name of your blog! It really fits the things you write about.
Secondly, you are extremely wise… just by reading some of your posts I could feel energy flowing through my body.
Please keep up the good work! Honestly, the world needs more people like you! 🙂
      Peace to you!

    1. Can I put green tea in it? I got off coffee recently.

I like the theme you chose, it matches the content of your blog well!

      1. That little POD goes with Nespresso coffee machines, so you would not be able to use it for Green tea unfortunately. Good idea for a post though… tell us HOW YOU got off off coffee and if you like drinking Green tea. Does it make you feel better? Thanks for visiting, you have a great site too.

      2. I got off coffee for health reasons. Not only was I drinking barrels of the stuff but it is a trigger for my gut. I had to give it up amongst other things, and I absolutely hate it. The positive is, I feel a million times better. But a part of me always asks “at what cost?” – Life is so short, I just want to indulge once or twice a week on things, but I can’t. Sucks.

  1. Hello pool people!

I hope you’re all well and enjoying the four day weekend! My post today was a bit of an odd one because it’s about something I haven’t found the right word for yet … but if you read it and you have any suggestions for the word I’m looking for, please let me know! All suggestions are welcome and all methods of submission are acceptable; comment, tweet, owl, smoke signal…

    1. Hmmm. Disregard this because I can’t delete it and I can’t edit it and the link is useless. I posted it again with a working link deeper down in the pool!

    2. I just copied it into my browser. I enjoyed you sharing your personal experience with writing, great read. I too am the same. I could talk to people, and do – but writing is where its at. I love it.

Great content, site looks good, would love to hear more from you.

    1. Every time I read a post from a teenager with this much insight into their own lives and the world around them, I feel good. I wish I was as smart and insightful as you when I was that age. Keep up the writing, wonderful stuff.

My latest post is about the idea of ethics, and its extension throughout people of different faiths.

  4. I’ve been away for a little bit (thanks, grad school) but took a little time to write about a yard sale encounter turned Easter lunch invitation this weekend. I generally write about secondhand purchases/conscious consumption/supporting local businesses so this is a bit of a twist on that from this week. Thanks for reading!

If anyone reading writes likeminded blogs focused on consumption/sustainability, etc, let me know and I’d love to check it out!

    1. I love this time of year simply for yard / garage sales. One persons junk is another’s treasure! – Great writing, and your theme/color selection looks great 🙂

    1. Keep grinding, Mac. If you are doing what you love, I know it sounds cliche, but it will come. You may hear 50 no’s before a yes, but when you do all your hard work will have paid off. If you are looking for encouragement, check out Chris Gardner’s “Start Where You Are” – One of my favourite reads. Best wishes to you.

    1. Hi Courtney, i love the simplicity that your layout gives, one thing maybe I would consider is just extending half the post excerpt and not the full entire post. That would help with being able to scroll and really look at everything clearly, otherwise I like what you write 🙂
