Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I like what you’re doing – a reblog day seems like a pretty fun and helpful venture.

All caps, bold, red type, different size fonts..it’s all too much. The emphasis seems random – pick two or three things in the whole article that are actually important. Red signals excitement, but also danger in our brains, which is very opposed to the positive, cooperative message this article is trying to convey.

Also, spelling and grammar! By your writing I’m guessing you’re not a native English speaker, so maybe have a friend or other blogger do a quick read for corrections.

    1. Blog looks gorgeous. I enjoyed skimming the content — not much time to read through it fully. Given my limited reading as an important caveat, I would say only this: streamline the style of your hyperlinks (some seem bold/others non-bold) and breakdown those long paragraphs into shorter, more digestible bites (if possible).

      1. Great feedback! I think the bold/nonbold is a distinction of wordpress between links that are opening in a new window vs not, i’ll look and see what we can do to universalize it. Thanks again for the feedback! I’ll be sure to check your blog out when I get home

      2. I agree. I’m sure there are a lot of insights in this post, but such a long one, and such chunky long paragraphs, may discourage some.
Another thing: Word Press allows up to (a combination of) 15 tags & categories. You’ve missed some important ones you could have used here, like Opinions, Articles, News.
Check out https://wordpress.com/tags for ideas. They’ll spread your posts farther.

    1. Nikhil, I think there is a lot of truth to this post. I read a book called “the Shallows: what the internet is doing to our brains” Basically saying very similar things to what you are saying in this post. It’s a shame how we overlook the basic things in life and how much time we consume on technology. Good post though friend!

  1. Good morning all! Happy community pool day! This is honestly my favorite day of the week because I love being able to check out new blogs so… thanks for that!

Anyway, I have been plugging away at my new book and wrote a fun new post about what no one tells you about writing a book!

You can check it out here: https://joshs-universe.com/2017/04/01/what-no-one-tells-you-about-writing-a-book/

If you want to dive in deeper feel free to check out my whole blog at: http://www.joshs-universe.com

It’s been described as “The Most A.D.D. Blog Ever” which I’m totally okay with because my overall theme is having no real theme.

I hope everyone has and absolutely wonderful day and week!!!

    2. I do get this. This blog is new, but has the same theme as my old one. Which is basically connecting with people and creative expression. (Not even as topics, just concepts). So as you can imagine, there is room for creativity, lol.

    1. I’m looking out my window at the rain that’s pouring down and I’m wondering if you’d like to take some of ours? Dehydration is certainly not an issue here at the moment! 😀 Love the blog!

  2. Heya everyone!

I posted this from my recent trip. It’s a City(e)scape which I found amazing!
I think I will post more from places I really loved because ah, right, I’ve been missing that sort of an escape. And that beauty, of course.

    Have a good week!

    1. I read one article and want to pop in again later to read more. Nice layout. I feel like I broken record because I’ve handed out this advice so often, but Word press allows up to 15 tags and/or categories. You could have added Personal, Friends, Photos, Birds, Thoughts. (The tags “blue” and “green” aren’t going to get you very far, I don’t think.
Check out https://en.wordpress.com/tags for more ideas.

  4. Check out my poem of the week, “The Boys of Summer.” The new baseball season started Sunday, and I wrote a brand new poem for the occasion. If you like baseball, or poetry in general, stop by and give this a read. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page as well, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

  5. Happy Monday! Looks like I either forgot to send my post or it got flagged for breaking a rule. Probably running on deck- I am notoriously naughty that way. Either or- I’ll try again. My blog has a multitude of topics: Depression/Mental Health Advocacy, Parenting, Rants, Stories/Poems, My Art and the latest feature is Book Recommendations. It’s a mish-mash of whatever pops up in my brain. Come by- take a boo and let me know what you think!
This past week I posted yet another funny story about my boxer dog Otis and a few thought provoking pieces- one of them titled “Carpe Diem-Because you can’t hit pause” Where I discuss parenting, creativity and giving each other space. Can you relate?

    1. I really like the concept, it’s cute. But I feel like you are just dumping emojis in the middle of sentences for no real reason. Maybe find a way to sprinkle them in more smoothly.

    1. If daily blogging is too much, you could always blog weekly, twice-weekly, whatever. It’s your blog – it would be great if we had material everyday, but when we write about not-personal things, it’s hard to find material sometimes. Probably because we have to go out looking for it.
