Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Ben Lessard,

National Geographic documentaries are what I grew up on as a kid: no joke. Your post had me nodding in agreement the whole way down, and the piece about the marine iguana was very interesting!

Honestly, I wanted to hear more about what you learned. That paragraph was new information to me and made me think “wow” instead of the simple agreement I had during the rest of your post. Tell me more!

Tell me about what is “the good, the bad, and the ugly.” Tell me more about the iguana. Tell me more about the space, galaxies, and planets. Teach me, because I want to learn and hear what you have to say. You build amazing credibility simply by making true statements. So I want to hear more of what you have to say.

Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

      1. I appreciate your kind and nice comment so much. Honestly, people like you is what keeps me going! I will for sure write more posts talking about what I mentioned in the NatGeo post and life on its own. I’m glad you liked this one! Thank you so much once again and hope you’re having a great day!

P.S: I’ll be sure to check out what you do.

    1. Let’s Walk Together,

Hey there! First of all, the bright colors of your theme with the same color of yellow in the flower to the left makes me smile. It feels like sunlight and spring. The left menu is unique for me, as I haven’t seen any of them yet (but that could just be me not getting around enough). It’s new and I like it!

Biggest. Thing. Ever. = Categorize your posts. the last widget on the menu is “Categories.” It’s very good that you have that category but the majority to your posts seem to fall into “Uncategorized.” Categorize your posts by changing them to whichever type of post it is. My two that I’m currently using are Writing and Photography. Some people use Poetry, books, etc. Be sure to put categories and tags on your posts so people can find them in their reader! When I realized I wasn’t doing this and changed them, I got a huge boost in my views.

You’re doing create! Keep it up and welcome to the community.

  2. I’ve been blogging here at WordPress for a couple of months. Most of my posts are around 800-1,000 words, but I’ve tried my hand at shorter ones too. I’m wondering what people think of my shorter one today at https://birdflight.blog/2017/04/08/wounds-need-time-and-extra-care-to-really-heal/ . It’s just under 300 words, I think. Any comments on my other posts would be happily welcomed too. My recent posts are all listed on the side bar.

    1. Hey there, Syd!

I love the theme/layout of your blog. It’s fun and the colors catch the eye. Honestly, the salmon-pink makes me smile the most.

On your “About SYD” page, I think you meant to say “to” in that sentence. Your picture is wonderful though and the salmon-pink works very well with the colors of your picture.

On your “Beauty” page, I was kind of expecting that it would be pictures of products, make-up art, and the such. I am so appreciative to know what make-up you wear, because you’re amazing and I’m sure everyone is asking you in life. I love it. The header of this is “Q&A on most asked beauty questions.” I think, given the material of this page, it might be best to rename the page to “FAQ” or something of the sort. I would love to see a beauty page on some of the make-up you’ve done for people.

For your books page, I think it would be absolutely awesome if (for the future) you added an archive list of the past books you’ve read with a little book review! I know there are a lot of book review bloggers out there and I am sure they would love another member of their community. Currently, you’re reading Secrets and Lies; when you finish this book, maybe make a little separate page “Book Reviews” or maybe “Past Books.”

Thank you so much for posting and welcome to the community! ❤

    1. Endlessbrooder,

The name of your blog and the header into it are perfect. I am not sure how many people will look up the meaning of Waldeinsamkeit, but if they don’t, that’s their loss. For those reading,
“Waldeinsamkeit consists of two words: “Wald” meaning forest, and “Einsamkeit” meaning loneliness or solitude. It is the feeling of being alone in the woods, but it also hints at a connectedness to nature.”

On your “A little bit about me.” section, I like how simple you kept it. This page gives exactly what your audience needs to know about you. I think that breaking up the words a little bit will help aid the simplicity. I would recommend putting it in full sentences or simply a list format.

Your pairing of poetry and pictures is spot on. Your most recent post “Depression” with the greyscale picture and a colorful air balloon? That pairing is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your poetry with us in this most wonderful way.

      1. Thanks a lot. It actually means a lot. I have been on other social networking platforms, but the support on word press is overwhelming. Its so good to know there are people like you out there who take out time to genuinely review the work of others and give honest feedback. As the pictures are also clicked by me,it adds as a bonus you complimented my picture too. Thanks a lot,ma’am.

  4. Hello everyone,
    Help!
I have been blogging since August but I’m not exactly expert yet so I have started the Daily Post ‘Learning the Fundamentals’ course. Today’s task was to embed something you haven’t tried before. I went for Getty Images and have just posted my blog. BUT when I looked at the post on my phone to check the links work there is a great big blank space – about as tall as the image – between text saying ’embed from Getty Images’ and the image.

So then I checked on my laptop and it looks fine!

So then I got my husband to check on his laptop – the 2nd Getty image doesn’t load!

I can’t/won’t use Getty again unless I know how to use it so it looks right across devices. Can anyone offer me any advice on this please?
    Thanks.

      1. Hi Allison, all the images load fine on my PC, sometimes a slow network can cause a picture not to load on time so i dont think you should worry too much about it. However on my phone i see the tall space you talking about, is the space there in your back end editor as well? Is there supposed to be a picture in that space, try checking that blockquote just before the embed, take away the blockquote and close the space, let us see if that works. Cheers.

      2. Thank you for replying, I appreciate your advice. I’m a complete novice in terms of understanding the language of WordPress so thank you for setting this out so clearly.

I am a bit unsure about removing the blockquote to see if that helps because I won’t be able to *see* if it helps (I found a help-page that advised how to centre a Getty image and when I followed that it also took away the blank on my phone so it looks fine there now). And my husband is off to bed – it’s midnight here – so I can’t look on his pc to see if problems remain.

Which is a long way of saying I will follow your advice – but not until tomorrow when I can access family pcs too! Thanks again

      3. Hi Mary, well I’ve checked on every device in the house and the images look fine in all of them so I’m going to assume all is well and leave it alone. I’ll certainly keep your advice in mind for any similar future problems. Thanks again for all you help, I hope you’re having a great Sunday!

  5. Hi all, first up thanks for the blogging university courses etc. I’m really enjoying the everyday inspiration one. I’ve just posted my day 11 post – the “virtual coffee date”, which I’ve adapted to a “postcard to home”. It seemed a good fit because I’m travelling (and my blog is a travel journal of sorts). https://rasadventuresblog.wordpress.com/2017/04/10/postcard-to-home-rosslyn-bay/
Anyway, still hoping to get some feedback for the upcoming assignment…and any other feedback!
    Cheers!
