Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. The look you have posted already is awesome! Maybe think about doing a “no-makeup” look, and also a glam look (smokey, glittery, super colorful). Keep up the good work!

    1. Hi! Great stuff so far. I think maybe you could give a little bit more of an intro to the characters so the reader knows what going. Also you could consider putting something right at the start about the princess that would get the reader to relate and sympathize with her!

      1. Hi thanks for your comments, this story spans several generations and the true characters will feed out over time, I have used the UK’s royal family as a starting point who’s characters are already formed by history, that in itself is a bit of a sideshow, the story kind of reflects the character of different sections of UK population, as the story progresses it will venture into the unknown, where the characterisation and descriptions will grow with the story, having said that the up and coming chapters characterise the main players in the initial coup, although I am depending strongly on people’s existing perceptions of the Royal family to get the story moving. Hope you enjoy it, happy for any feedback.

    1. Your most recent poem has lovely imagery, but it feels too broken up. Perhaps you could put some lines together to match the latter part of the poem where readers see the aftermath of war. The featured image is wonderful, though.
      Happy writing!

      2. I like this version a lot more! You added so much more dramatic imagery that brings the entire scene to life. I’m not too keen on the second line, but other than that, you’ve done great revision! Keep up the good work and feel free to leave some feedback anytime.
        Happy writing!

    1. Your post is relatable and personal how it is. I hope the symptoms of depression are easier for you to handle now than they were in your teenage years. Sometimes, all we need is a voice to demonstrate we’re not alone in our suffering. The format is more blog-like, but if you feel like something is missing, perhaps you could describe what it was about the song or others like it that made you feel understood.

      1. Your amazing photography and lovely doodles gained you a new follower. I enjoyed the quotes as well. Keep up the good work!
As for the blog itself, I like how your layout is organized so readers can get a sense of who you are and what your purpose is for the blog. It could use a little color in the background so there’s not so much white space. Other than that, your blog is good to go with a nice variety.
        Happy blogging!

    1. Oh, I love this! It gets at societal norms and gender stereotypes with alarming speed. The imagery packs a punch with so few words. Keep up the good work!

    1. If you’re blogging about a variety of topics, it might be helpful to organize the blog in a way that makes each type of content easy to find. That way, readers don’t have to scroll through unwanted text. You might also want to consider posting more often, but don’t force yourself if it doesn’t work.
I wish you the best of luck!

      1. I have the “Categories” widget in my blog, so readers can choose which topic they want to read about. I try to blog as often as possible, but I kind of get busy sometimes. Thanks for the advice!

      2. Of course! I’m happy to offer advice anytime. No worries about being busy, just post however often you can.

    1. You’re beautiful in the photos! Although I don’t wear makeup myself, it amazes me to see what women can do with it. Maybe you could post about some of your favorite products and do tutorials through photos. Side by side comparisons with products might also be helpful.
      Good luck!

  2. Hello fellow bloggers!
I really appreciate the blogging community – the support is great, and I love reading other people’s blogs! Some insightful, some inspiring, overall a great joy to read! I am new to blogging, “Journals of a Wildflower” is my first one and have had it for about a month or so now. I would really appreciate some advice or feedback on my latest post and on my blog in general.

      1. Thanks. Even though the daisy is a random stock piture, it does have meaning to me which I might share in a later post. And I really don’t have an idea of what I’m doing. Figured I should be honest and straight forward than pretend I know what’s going on lol.

  4. Hello all! I’m currently in the middle of going through a travel series from when I was in Peru for a month. Let me know what you think, and if I should change up my style at all. I’ve still got a few more episodes in the series to go, and I’d love to hear what you all think!

I just published my poem. Could you spare a moment and read it, and tell me how you liked it? Constructive criticism is always welcomed!

    1. Hi there
I think you’ve been very brave to post that. Well done. The first post is always the hardest!
As a bit of feedback, I think you could put some images in there, to break the text up a bit. I would over the next little while try and pin down exactly what you want your blog to do and say – I find those blogs that are clear about their intent are often the most interesting (to me anyway!).
      Just a couple of thoughts….

  6. Hello bloggy friends
I’ve got a technical issue. I have moved to a self hosted site and have TRIED to put in a follow me button, but I’m not convinced that it is working. Would a couple of helpful folk mind ‘following me’ through that button and see if my posts pop up in your reader? I will follow you in return…

    My website is:
    http://wordsandleaves.com/

    Thanks in advance

    W.

    1. I don’t think it worked. I followed you using the button, but your blog isn’t listed with the others that I follow. Your button did change to “Following Words and Leaves” though.

      1. Hmm… I did get a notification through. Can you see any posts in your reader? I last did one yesterday about 12 hours ago (about a book list).
I am now following you too – lovely blog!

      2. It’s showing up now. I guess it’s just not automatic. Thanks for the compliment. I like how the colors of your feature images change when hovered over. You have a great layout!

    2. I’m not sure if I’m missing it, but I do not see a follow button. In the bottom right I see a “subscribe” option to put my email, but as this is wordpress and I have an account, shouldn’t there be a follow me button? Am I just missing it? It is 3:10 am so that wouldn’t be surprising. I love the layout and color theme though! It looks beautiful! Very easy to naviagate. If the subscribe box is the following box, you may want to make it a little bigger if possible 🙂

      1. Sorry, I just saw these styler messages. It’s interesting that you couldn’t find it though….! People are much more likely to follow than subscribe, I’ve found. And thanks for the lovely comments too.
