Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello! I have some new poetry that I’d love some feedback on. They’re a bit different in style from some of my other poems, and would like to know what you guys think about the shorter lines. Raisins is about friendship, and Love Me Softly about the beginnings of a romantic relationship.

Love Me Softly (This is actually an edit of a post I created a while back!)

Also, if you have a blog you’d like me to check out, let me know in the comments!

  2. Greetings, writer folk! I’ve been posting pretty frequently on my blog, so I thought I’d give this feed a shot to see what people think. Lately, the focus of my bloggery has centered around answering restaurants’ calls for feedback (the ones on the back of the receipt that offer free food/the chance of minor riches) and going far beyond the call of duty to liven things up for the customer service reps on the other side. You’ll see what I mean when you click the link below. I welcome any and all comments you might have!

  4. Hi there! Normally I’d come up with some sophisticated/polite way to ask for attention on my blog… but I think we all know in reality that we are all here for the same thing. So if you could help a gal out, I only have a few blogs but I would adore some feedback under them & could really use the help! If you help me out, I will gladly respond and check out your blog! Thank you guys so very much (: https://samanthagang.wordpress.com/

    1. HI Samantha. I really like the design you are going for, and the writing. Now, just fill in a couple of the blank spots (About page, the widgets at the bottom, etc) and you are all set!

    2. I agree, I like the topic and the layout, but you may steer people away with the text widgets. If not updating just hide them in the meantime. I also don’t see a “follow me” box for email addresses…. that’s the only way to get non-wordpress followers.. so you’ll want to do that asap! 🙂 -Marie http://www.goldisfromaliens.com

    1. Your theme works extremely well for the blog. Writing is good. Watch the grammar, very few mistakes but there were a couple in some posts. The pictures are incredible! I love the way you have the different tabs for various areas of the country. GOOD job!

  5. Hello bloggers! My name is Chrissey and I run a “lifestyle blog” with content about fashion, beauty, and fashion… but with sass! I’m working on my career in the field of medicine so I sprinkle a little bit of that in there too! I would love it if you could check out my site!

Also, I’m always looking for new blogs to follow so I would love to check out yours! https://unabridgedsass.com

      1. I’ll give it a try. I attempted to make some gyoza-like ones a while ago, but mine were so messy. I like the way to squish them at the top instead.

  6. Hello blogging people! I started blogging about a year ago after many friends said I needed to share my goofy farm stories and photography. I have not gotten a lot of followers, and I’m trying to learn the ropes and figure out how to get people to follow and be interested in my site and my stories. I have provided a link to my most recent post. I would appreciate feedback about how I set up the post, images, and any other useful tools for generating interest. Thank you! I learn a lot from just enjoying the many blogs here!

    1. OMG your pictures are Ah-ma-zing! So beautiful! I love how you relate the ducklings just being ducklings and enjoying their duckling-ness as a sort of ‘in the moment’ sen-ness … i’m probably not explaining it very well, but it was lovely. Well done!

      1. Thank you for your kind comments! I’m glad that my words meant something to you – that is what I’m never sure about: if anyone gets me 🙂

    1. I don’t think it is. I have posted some pretty heavy posts on my blog – about death and struggles with the past, baggage, etc. Those posts have not always gotten the most views, but they have gotten me a fair amount of feedback from my friends and family. It is hard to talk about the dark things, but we need to. I have included two links to two blogs I have posted that deal with some less optimistic issues.

I would encourage you to try your voice out – there is an audience for you.

      1. You’re welcome! You really put a lot of research into each color. Totally different spin on a blog than I have ever seen before. Thanks! Texas is sooo pretty! I hope to add photos of my own of my land in the near future. 🙂

      1. Thanks! Yes, Sense 8 was really good but also a little creepy. If that happened to me I would think I was having a break down, but they did things that made sense like giving each others number and calling to make sure the other person was real.

    1. I looked at your blog and the layout looks okay. I find the print a bit small. You can go into the Customizer: in the pop-up sidebar click on Theme, then on Customize then on Fonts and select a larger font size to make your blog more readable.

Another important thing is to use categories and tags. I see you have a few categories. WordPress allows you to use up to fifteen. I’m going to suggest a few you could add to your posts: Recipes, Home, Food, Philippines, Seafood
Cooking. Cultures, Travel. Check out https://wordpress.com/tags/ for ideas.

Other than that, I’d say it’s fine. but your dealing with foods a lot of people around the world are not familiar with, so your blog will appeal to a smaller number of readers than a blog on travel or stories. If you want to make it more appealing, you could do a bit about travel in your country or tourism or history of your area.
