Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. That’s fine, even though they are classic books, some have never read them. And I think that’s the point, the city wanted to introduce different choices that most don’t gravitate towards.

    1. I like how you pulled out sections of your post for emphasis.

My only feedback is that I didn’t get the feeling of “a slow death” from the post. It was like one day he was laughing and one day he wasn’t. What happened in between. What ate at him? What gradually tore him down?

      1. Oh, I’m sorry you got that!
I wanted to capture a person who was cheerful on the outside and dying on the inside; who laughed loud but was depressed. And finally ended it all.
Perhaps, it didn’t come out right.
I’ll work on that. Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate.

    1. Hi! I checked out your blog. Let me just start with the first thing I noticed about your blog: the color schemes of your home page seem to clash just a bit. Your header photo is green with plants, giving it a kind of earthy, dark display. The layout on the lower half is more modern and bright, giving it a cheery and light-hearted feel. Maybe that’s what you’re going for- if so, fantastic!
As for the posts- I read your most recent one from yesterday- it was great! I loved it– keep writing!
I just critiqued your blog– so feel free to rip mine apart if you see anything you don’t like! 🙂

      1. Oh my God! I love the header and how the colours give off a warm vibe! Definitely no clashing there😄.
And your stories are amazing. Definitely following! I loved Allegory of the Giants so much❤

  1. What is my blog about? It’s about me! I write about my past/current relationship(s), my life experiences including travel, my bouts of anxiety and depression, my history of sexual abuse, all mixed with a bit of humor. I’m not crazy, I swear.

Let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy! https://bexoxoblog.wordpress.com/

    1. I really like the look of your blog. It’s very visually appealing. I also read one of your posts. The one on self-sabotage. I could really relate to it. I left a comment after that post.

I’m just a newbie here and would not yet be ready to do guest posts, though I like the idea.

      1. Thank you for your kind words, I’m new to all of this so it is good to hear some positive feedback. Let me know if you would like to do a guest post as it would be great to have some contributors 🙂

    1. Hey! I checked out your blog and I have 3 quick tips for you!
      1. When you post a link to your blog (such as you did in your post to this thread) make sure you include “https://” before your blog title. Copy and pasting the URL into the text box will do fine- this will create a direct link people can click on to get to your blog. example: placetoremember.wordpress.com vs https://placetorememberblog.wordpress.com/
      2. The profile picture that shows up next to your name is empty. It’s a turnoff to a lot of other bloggers to see an empty picture on a thread. Often times people won’t want to look at your blog just for that reason. You can change this by going to “my profile” (top right of your screen next to “write”) and clicking on the empty picture to “update profile picture,” which will have you create a gravatar- the steps are pretty simple after that.
      3. Your layout is pretty visually unappealing. It’s really too simple. You can get free layouts that wordpress offers. If you go to “my site” (top left next to “reader”), on the lefthand sidebar, click on “themes.” There you will find a lot of different options. This will greatly enhance the layout of your blog!

Feel free to check my blog out for layout ideas. I like to keep mine simple and clean!

  2. I’m brand new to blogging. So far I have written four mental health related posts, and some other posts that dealt with either cooking and/or music. I do like the idea of being able to write about various interests. My hope is to use the blog for general writing practice and maybe a source for writing samples, but at the same time I hope that the various categories won’t limit the number of followers I get. My husband says my posts are good, but none are really magnets for followers. What do you think? And why?

I’m not that worried about creating a beautiful blog, but I want it to be easy to navigate. http://www.birdflight.blog

    1. Hey, I think the layout works well. I can easily navigate it from my mobile. I really like your latest post. I myself have a disability and I was a really interesting read. Thanks!

      1. Thank you so much, gemmaorton! I am happy to read that my blog is easy to navigate. I know it isn’t as visually exciting as other peoples’, but that’s just not my strength. I’m glad you liked my latest post.

I checked out your blog and it looks like you get out and explore. Hubby and I try to, as well, when we can.

  3. Hi. I’m very new to the blogging community and have started only last week. I read the blog about community sharing and I belive that its a brilliant idea to support new bloggers, especially like me who is not even that prevalent in social media. I hope I find that support within the blogging community and that I would also be able to support people from my side.
My blog will be focusing on savings, finance and investments. Do have a look and I would love to have some comments and reviews on the same.

  4. Hello my fellow bloggers. I am a little behind and still trying to catch up with this hour change, lol. But I am here now and I am sharing my latest post. I have a personal prayer blog that I am now sharing with the word in hopes of reaching out to someone who has the heart to pray but can’t find the words. I am a retired army veteran and my prayer blog is my own personl part of my PTSD therapy. I am turning my tears into prayers and my writing into therapy. I hope all is well and enjoy!!

    1. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I immediately took to your blog! I haven’t seen BATB yet so I didn’t read that post, but I did take a peek at your others! My only suggestion for you is to set up more categories so posts on different topics (like Ed Sheeran’s wonderful new album) can be found later on.
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Wow, you’ve written a lot in a month. It’s definitely a personal blog, since the topics are all over the place, but that’s not a bad thing.
I like the look of the blog too.

      1. Hi Dorry. Thanks for your feedback, it’s much appreciated! Yes I have, some days I get bored and post way too much either to drafts or the blog itself haha! And yes, I wanted it to start out as a travel blog, but it got sidetracked along the way 🙂

    1. I enjoyed the Art of Giving without Expecting. Those were good thoughts. To practice, I do something for a person who has no way to ever repay me. If they ask how they can repay me, I tell them to do something kind for someone else without expecting anything back. https://gracelead.co

    1. Hi, I looked over your post and even though I read it all, it would have been nicer to break the wall of text up – with images or just paragraphs.
As for your blog, it’s nice and clean. I would add some widgets to the right hand column, but that’s just me. (I use the Twitter feed and most viewed posts by the way.)
Anyway, nice post, liked reading it~

      1. Ah thanks. I did break it up with paragraphs, but there must have been a small space. Now I’ve realised that I have to add more photos to my posts
