Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I’d love some feedback about my new blog, reply with comments or submit them through my contact page. I’d be happy to read through any of your pieces as well!

      1. I try to think of myself as a convenient presence in both, but that’s just vanity talking. Thanks for reading and commenting! ❤

    1. I love the layout and the pictures are awesome. Just a couple of thoughts. First, if you’re looking for WordPress followers something as simple as having a Gravatar photo helps (the picture of me you see to the left praying to a pizza). Second, have you thought about creating a Twitter account? You can link the two and your posts will appear on your Twitter account as well. I’ve found it to be helpful to me. I only have just over 250 followers but I’ve only been blogging since the end of January. Also do your best to read and comment on the blogs of others. Even though I’m not a clock expert I still find your blog to be pretty cool! -Marie http://www.goldisfromaliens.com

  2. Hi all!
I just recently started a blog focusing mainly on mid-20th century literature, but all words are fair game. My plan is to post reviews and/or experiences with everything from novels to poems to lyrics, and learn from others thoughts and feelings toward those works in return!
Kind of like a really sporadic digital book club.
I would love to get some feedback on my concept or the blog itself!

    Much appreciated!

    1. Wow you are really smart!
A couple things I would suggest.

      1. Fill out your about page. Who are you? Why did you create this blog? Why should I care? Why do you care? Are you a Physics professor? Etc.

      2. Get rid of the “text widget” on your menu. You can do that by going to the “widgets” page under “customization”

Good job, I am looking forward to reading some more.

    1. I was wondering how that storm had turned out! Living out west on the edge of the Rocky mountains, I can’t help but look at your pictures and think, that’s where all our winter storms went this year. Stay safe over there!

  4. Hello and happy almost Friday! I took the suggestion of a reader that confirmed my suspicions that I was in need of some blog remodeling, so stop on by to go through all the changes. I created a new page for the Imagination Leaks Series to give readers a taste of each piece through an excerpt and provide a link.

If there’s anyone who knows how to show specific excerpts only, I’d love some tips. Otherwise, take a look around and enjoy.

  5. Hi
I am just getting started with blogging and this is my second post “The Traveler”:

    The Traveler

My blog, MyStoriesWithMusic, combines short stories that are linked to my songs in some way. The Traveler is therefore both a song and a story. I would be really happy for any feedback, and I’m also wondering what you think about posting short stories in a blog. Will anyone want to read something that is as long as a short story? 🙂

    Cheers
    Therese

    1. Read it! Enjoyed it! And I’m listening to the song over and over. This is wonderful! Come check out my blog, I have a few pieces that are short stories, and others that are excerpts. I’ve had pretty positive feedback from followers about my short stories, and I’ve even extended larger stories over multiple posts. I try to give myself a word limit of about 1700 per post and that seems to work out pretty well. Come check it out. https://inkowlme.wordpress.com/

    1. Love NY and it is like an art installation. Interesting perspective. Followed. (This is a great place to find new bloggers to follow as well as get them.)

    2. Your appreciation for New York came through loud and clear. I like how you did not hesitate to acknowledge the warts along with the beauty marks. My favorite sentence was, “It is the best long-distance relationship, I’ve ever had!” That made me smile. https://gracelead.co

  6. I am proud of myself. I am on the way to 50 Blog Posts. I am writing a few days a week, and it is adding up! Since last Friday, I have written Weekend Warrior #3, A back story for my first guest blog post (featured on Kirsty Allen’s blog; https://kirstyallensite.wordpress.com/) a follow-up to Dealing with Unexpected Grief called Honouring Lost Friends and Making New Ones, Beware the Winter Storm of March, and Trust Your Gut: Tish’s Story; Part 5. I am really impressed by the stats. Viewed by people in 21 countries, and I have 29 followers. Aiming for 500 views this month. I am a little shy of that goal at this point, but I am confident it is possible. Thanks for any support on my blog page, happy reading, and productive writing wishes for you all in the coming week!

    1. I enjoyed your latest two posts. For me, art means not forcing myself to stay inside the lines. Your ducking post was fun. I can easily walk past baby chicks, but I find ducklings irresistible. 🙂 BTW, duck eggs are yummy. Just sayin’ – not trying to get you to expand your poultry yard. https://gracelead.co

  8. Hope I’m in the right spot. I just completed my first week of blogging. As I’m not a writer and afraid that family and friends are worried about hurting my feelings I’m looking for some honest feedback on my blogs. Check them out at JourneyFrom455toFit and feel free to be honest. I’ve got thick skin so I went be hurt.

  9. Hello everyone!
Winters are now giving way to warmer clime. As the temperature rises, the need for thirst quencher also arises. Instead of depending upon artificially flavored good for nothing cold drinks we can consume refreshing and healthy juice based drinks.
I have shared a recipe of refreshing and nutritious drink made from gooseberry, lemon and ginger juice. Please visit my vlog to read the recipe and watch the video of how I made it. The link is http://thefoodfunda.com/recipe/amla-lemon-ginger-squash-gooseberry-drink/
I hope you will like it. Awaiting your feedback.
