Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi Community Pool!
I’m wondering two things: (1) are my blog posts are too short? What is the ideal blog post length? and (2) And how much time, on average, do people invest in writing a post?
Thank you for any opinions and feedback!

    1. I read your latest post. For me, the length is good. I don’t usually read long posts. My posts are short and typically take about 30 minutes to write. Then I let them sit for a few days before I edit them and search for an image to accompany them. BTW, on your latest post, I think it would be nice to move your image at the bottom so it is closer to the top. https://gracelead.co

  2. Just started my first blog. http://www.puravidamomma.com. I’ve gotten a few views and a couple of comments but not a ton of interest. I’m wondering if it’s not informational enough? Not entertaining enough? Or if I just need to reach more people? Any comments would be great. Thanks!

  3. Good Afternoon, Community Pool!!
I’ve been spending quite a lot of time (and effort) having a go at my new blog. Can some more experienced and hopefully opinionated bloggers come on and have a look at a few of my posts and things to tell me what you think about the layout and style of everything.
Blogging is only a hobby alongside my studies, but I really enjoy it and I would love if I could spread my name/brand around a little bit to help people like me make their $$ go a bit further to enjoy good food.

A million karma points and aroha (love) from NZ!

    1. The first thing I noticed was how bright and inviting your page is. I loved that! I only have two things I noticed. The pictures are too big for me. Maybe make them a little smaller? That way you can see a little more of the other pictures you have on there. Also your logo in the top left corner is cut off by one of your tabs. I think it’s Banter. Other than that I really liked your page! I hope this helped!

  4. Getting a lot of feedback from readers that the blog isn’t users friedbly. Is there a betterment theme I could be using or is there something’s I’m missing about my design that’s flawed?

    1. What do they mean by user friendly? I didn’t find it difficult to navigate. If they mostly visit for the blog posts, it might be better for them if you let your posts show on your Home page. What’s there now could be a separate page. Other than that, I’m not sure what they mean. https://gracelead.co

      1. Are the blog posts not on the home page? can you check again? Maybe I’m having some kind of technical problem. I wasn’t sure what they meant either which is why I decided to ask the other bloggers to see if I was just to close to the project to notice the flaws. Thanks for your feedback!

  6. hi ben (everybody) I would like to know is there a Kidipress version of us? I want to use it as a means to demonstrate, in a training session, of why literacy is important. I am ,also about to begin teaching and I think it would be a very useful way to marry technology with a bit of the old fashioned writing skills. Thanks

  7. Hello everyone! Kobla here. I recently started blogging and I primarily focus on my photography journey. I’ve started a series called Musial portraits and would appreciate any feedback about the quality of the blogs and any tips on improving. Thank you all.
