Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello writers! I would really appreciate feedback on my blog at https://lance-price.com, where I write about Christianity and movie reviews. To clarify, I consider myself an article writer, not so much a blogger, and I say that to explain the length of my publications (since they average 1,250 words, more or less). I would really appreciate feedback regarding how I might track more views since I would love to reach more people with my writing. Thank you all for your help! God bless!

    1. Hi, I checked out your blog and I thought it was a great set up. Your writing is great! Personally, I do not read many religious blogs, but I know a few people who do. I think the easiest way to promote your blog is to be active on other social media such as twitter and Instagram. Posting on the community pool is another great way to promote your blog! Hope this helps 🙂 xx

  2. I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit bummed out because this was the first poem I deemed ‘good enough’ to submit to a journal/magazine but it ended up getting rejected.

Then & again, what’s the value of success if you don’t fail a few times though, right?

I hope you enjoy it regardless: https://maggyliu.com/2017/02/21/waste-landed-heart/

I would love to get some constructive criticism on the piece & anything else I’ve written if you decide to go for a little wander on my blog.

Same as always, I am always more than happy to check out your little space on the internet in return, just ask! 🙂

    1. I love the variety of posts you have; everything from shoes to thoughts. I love the post titled ‘When life gets overwhelming’ as I found it extremely relatable. It good to know other people have days like that too! Your set up is bright and it really appeals to the eye. Keep it up 🙂 xx

    1. Loved the sparkler photo in the background! You are definitely an optimist.I’m a pessimist so I often seek out optimistic blogs for balance. My only comment would be caution on using photos.. be sure they are either purchased or photos you took. Nice job! -Marie aka http://www.goldisfromaliens.com

      1. Thank you for the feedback – truly appreciated!
No worries about pics – they are all from pixabay.com (no attribution needed, highly recommend it!) plus one used on the Contact page from flickr.com (Creative Commons, with attribution only and usually less choice). But all allowed to be used for free! 🙂

Love the name of your blog, and the visuals are stunning! (I wonder where you get those!)
Keep up the good work! 🙂

    1. Nice content! Just a couple of comments on the layout. The home page shows your most recent post and it says “uncategorized” above it in huge letters. I would suggest either categorizing everything so it’s an actual word/indication, or removing categorization all together. 2nd, you have the social media buttons right next to your info on your home page, but Twitter, for example, doesn’t lead to YOUR twitter. I would suggest either connecting to your social media or taking the buttons off. Those are generally used so people can follow you in other places. 🙂

  3. Hi! My blogger buddy Riya and I are working on a short story series in which Sia (Note that it’s a portmanteau of our names) advises her 14 year old self about how to combat everything that society throws at her.

    1. An important next step for you is to update your home page. Right now it has all of the pre-filled wordpress text in there that tells you what you should be writing in there. So it looks like a page someone opened but hasn’t designed yet. Unfortunately the content is hard to find because the filler spaces are too distracting and make you feel like it’s not an active blog. IMO 😦

      1. Technically with every picture (if not yours) you’ll either need to buy it (then you can use it however you want) or site where you got it from next to it (link an citation). I say especially if it’s featured.. meaning you don’t the first thing someone sees when they open your page is their picture without a citation 😉

      1. Six degrees of separation is a fun theory. I agree with you that social media may be bringing the number lower. On the other hand, just because two people are “friends” on Facebook doesn’t mean they have ever met. Does that really count? 🙂 https://gracelead.co
