Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I’ve been enjoying communicating with this community! Anyway, I put together this newest short story. It was a challenge to put create and I’m curious about anyone’s feedback. It is part of an experiment I’m playing with called Trashy Stories (not dirty, unless dirt is involved).
Well here is the link: https://hauntingachingwonder.wordpress.com/2017/02/21/happy-something-or-other/

And this is a short explanation of what a Trashy Story is, in case one was curious: https://hauntingachingwonder.wordpress.com/trashy-stories/what-is-a-trashy-story/

    1. Congratulations on going vegan! I hope the choice suits you well in your outlook on life. Maybe you could go into more detail of the before and after of your eating habits because they were vague throughout.
      Happy blogging!

    1. I love your drawings, and they’re certainly worth much more than the title of doodle. Maybe you could post tutorials to share your talent and knowledge. I’d sure like to be able to improve my drawing, and I’ll need all the help I can get.
As for the blog, you could try different backgrounds and color schemes to find something that suits you and makes your drawings pop.
      Happy drawing!

    1. Your blog looks pretty good, though I can’t seem to get passed the feeling of foreboding with all the grey. Maybe you could play with the color scheme. Also, I hope you and your husband are blessed with a little one soon enough. I’m sure you’ll make lovely parents.
      Happy blogging!

  2. Hi team!

I’m looking at getting a custom domain name for my blog (currently athttps://edgyveggienz.wordpress.com) and can’t decide between edgy-veggie.com or edgyveggienz.com …which do you think is better? Thank you for your input!!

    1. I’d go with the simpler one that rhymes by itself instead of the second one. It’s catchier and stays with readers rather than adding those last awkward letters.
      Good luck with your blog!

  5. I started my blog in the new year, and I’ve just written my eighth post. I have no plan or theme to what I’m writing, it’s a big mix of travel, makeup, lifestyle and reviews. The blogs I follow seem to be DIY blogs, Beauty blogs, Fashion blogs etc. I couldn’t use any term to describe mine, is that a problem?

  6. Hey everyone,

Wrote a piece on excellent friendship and listening this week [with a pic of the incredible beer soaked bacon-wrapped deep friend Oreos that were involved]:

    Listen to me…

And also shared an interesting aspect from the book i am reading which is Leonard Sweet’s ‘The Bad Habits of Jesus’ which i am really enjoying:

    The Bad Habits of Jesus

Would love you to check one of those out and add some thoughts and would also still like some feedback on font size on my blog. Is it still too small do you think? Does anyone have a recommended size?

    Thanks so much

    1. Honestly i really prefer open and honest personal blogs to fiction and that kind of thing. Mine is really about relationships but its all from my experience. I think you should just keep going and see where each post takes you. Maybe pop over and have a look at mine too. Good luck

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience and how God worked things through. Regarding your site, have you considered having your recent posts show on your Home page? What’s there now makes it appear that your site is not ready for use (lots of filler text). https://gracelead.co

    2. Hello — to answer your answers about your site’s homepage, I think a fairly quick visit to your Customizer (https://wordpress.com/support/customizer/) will resolve these issues. Your site is currently set to have a static front page, not display your latest posts, and that’s why visitors see a page with filler text.

In the Customizer (which you can reach here: https://wordpress.com/customize), you can either populate these widget areas with custom content (choose the Widgets panel), or switch your homepage to show your posts (choose the Front Page panel). I hope this helps, and good luck with your site!
