If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome!

A tip — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, on the right — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. Welcome! FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s main page and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that. Here’s your site: https://purplepastelsblog.wordpress.com

I also noticed that your blog’s home page has lots of placeholder text on it. You can find your theme’s details here: https://wordpress.com/themes/edin — it’ll help you learn to customize and configure all the parts of your home page.

  3. Hello,

I posted my first 3 blog posts ever in the last week. I recently just dealt with an Ectopic Pregnancy and had emergency surgery for a ruptured tubed that I lost. My very first post was about that two month long journey of Dr And ER visits. It’s kinda long (my apologies)

My second post was a bit of me just ranting and my third post was a week 1 update on recovery.

I would loved honest feedback on my writing, my blog, and I welcome any criticism! I really want to learn as much as I can in this blogging world! Thank you all for your time it is greatly appreciated! My link to my first post is below. Posted a week ago.

  4. Hi! My name is Brooke and I’m new to the blogging world. I technically started building and making my wordpress page in August but “launched” my website on the 13th of this month. I wanted to have at least four whole posts completed before I shared my site with anyone. So technically my “first post” was accidentally posted back in September (lol when I didn’t know how to do anything including keep posts private) my blog is about motherhood, natural wellness, and family life in general. I love sharing and learning and would like to connect more with other bloggers! I’m always learning more 🙂 here is my post! It’s about mommy shaming.

    1. Listen Please. I don’t know what’s going on either. I am trying to build a website blog that discusses movies, religions, diabetes, and hope for continuing life with challenges for yourself and others. I have had the Mommy challenges, Grandma challenges, caring for disabled challenges, and living life through it all.

    1. I left a comment before but forgot to mention you need to install a Recent Posts widget, if you haven’t got one already. You go to Site Admin and find Appearance in the long column on the left.
Click on that and one of your options is Widgets. Click on that and you”ll see Recent Posts among the widgets on the left hand side. Click, drag it over to a the bars on the right hand side and drop it in.

  5. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment for someone, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback (or give feedback) on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

    1. What a great blog! When you are over-saturated with different noises, it can be so easy to take for granted the pleasurable sounds of Mother Nature. Thanks for reminding me to appreciate the simple things and enjoy them for what they are!

  6. Every Friday I come here to find some photography blogs. So instead of searching I thought I’d just comment. So link your blogs below. 🙂

  7. I started blogging like 3 days ago but I kinda sorted out what I’m going to do and I already got a few posts ready waiting to be published. But I need a boost or something to keep me going. And it’s going to be with your help. I would be so happy if you check out my page 🙂 Thank you !

    1. I love the idea you’ve got going so far- writing for a therapeutic purpose. That’s exactly what I use my blog for. Sometimes I vent and sometimes I write about random thoughts and things on my heart.
A couple of simple tips: 1. Get a picture for your profile photo. It’s always kind of a turn off to see someone comment on a post and their profile photo is a white outline of a head and shoulders. 🙂
      2. When you post the URL to your blog for others to see, it will create more traffic if you paste in a link that they just have to click on.

For instance: if you want to check out my blog for ideas you can check it out here: https://placetorememberblog.wordpress.com/

      1. You should definitely use tags, and number isn’t important as long as you have fewer than 15 tags + categories on each individual post. E.g., 12 tags + 2 categories, 5 tags + 9 categories, etc.

Also, your theme uses post excerpts, so you’ll want to make sure to give each post one — otherwise, you’ll get that “This is a post excerpt” text you have right now. When you’re writing/editing a post, you can find the place to add an excerpt under the “More Options” tab on the left side of the page.

  8. While this may not be my first post ever, my blog is less than a month old and this is merely my fifth post– however, it’s my first post on a Friday so I believe it qualifies. Actually, in Laos, it’s Saturday already. Anyways, I would like to know your thoughts: is this post too long? is the theme a viable one and one which would hold your curiosity/attention should I continue it? Feel free to check out the rest of the blog too. It isn’t much…yet.

If I am indeed posting this in violation of the rules, my apologies, feel free to delete. In the meantime, I will reply to other’s comments and try to be useful. Thanks for your time.
