Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Just checked out your most recent post – I wish at 11.11 all the time so what you said really rings true. I like your tone and how you actually gave me a kick up the butt to get shit done on an evening where I was feeling pretty stressed about all the assignments and general life tasks I need to do right now. Love the featured image too so if you snapped that, kudos to you! Keep writing and I looked forward to reading more. x

    1. Friggin love this!!! Such a real post about growing up. (Im more than happy to have my childish days.) I struggle to find a balance. Working full-time, studying part time and then worrying about responsibilities. Fun times. But such a great and enaging post.
Id love it if you could give me your opinion on my latest post. Its a snippet into my sketchbook.

      1. Thank you so much for the kind words – I always want my posts to be something people can relate to, so I’m glad you can share my feelings on trying to fit everything in! I like the idea of the post and the pictures that you take. Perhaps you should focus on a sketch as it develops, maybe one you spend quite a bit of time on to really show off your skills and let people see the different stages. Be careful of grammar at times and try to tell people something about the choices behind your sketches. What made you draw that specific thing? Looking forward to reading and seeing more from you! 🙂

    1. Personally, I don’t think that there’s any way to blog, haha. You just write whatever you want to write, and you write it by your choices. Don’t try to make your blog like anyone else’s because then your blog will eventually just be you trying to copy someone else’s. There’s no perfect blog, but you can certainly try to make your blog perfect for you.

Sorry for this cheesy ramble, I just had to reply. Also, your blog looks really good.

    1. I’d most definitely take part in Valentine’s Day. I don’t have a Valentine or any significant other to spend it with, but I just find it fun to spend it with people you love, because you don’t NEED to spend it with a significant other such as a husband.

      1. You don’t need a partner to be happy! Valentine’s Day is good enough without the boyfriends or girlfriends, in fact, I think it makes no difference to have a significant other during Valentine’s Day, because it can still be a fun day without couples.

    2. I just posted a comment on your post on your blog. But I wanted to reiterate here that your feelings are refreshing and make me feel peaceful, in spite of my own personal desire for a romantic valentine.

  2. Hello!
Yesterday’s one word prompt, prompted an old forgotten letter from Miss P to Mr. C. Ahead of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, please let me know what you think might have happened to the two, after this letter.

Thanks a lot to everyone who is reading it!

    1. I’ve been through what you have before, so let me give you some tips.

First of all, I’d suggest that you take a small break away from blogging just to relax. I think that you’re stressing yourself out a bit by trying to come up with interesting posts. Take a break, relax, and when you come back you’ll be able to start with a fresh slate.

    2. I know how you feel – I actually feel the same way about my posts.

But in terms of your blog, I really like it. I’m not sure that’s the sort of feedback you’re looking for – but I really feel like you’re getting across what you need to. Your posts are raw and full of emotion, and very natural. Even if they’re not necessarily what you want them to be, they feel real. And sometimes you just need to post for yourself, not for other people (even when you want an audience, or feel like your message is important to be heard – and your message on addiction certainly is important).

Good luck, my friend. I hope blogging becomes what it needs to be for you.

  5. Hello fellow bloggers!

I’m a new to WordPress in particular and to blogging in general. I would love some feedback! Right now my blog is just a potpourri of various stuff that I’ve written these past few months. The blog itself is less than a month old.

    Diversion!

    Happy Valentine’s day!

  6. Hi everyone,

I am still very new to wordpress and trying to figure out how it all works. My blog is all about camping, traveling, and adventure. Last night I posted my second post and I would love to get some feedback. What do you think about all of the photos in my post, are there too many??
Also I’m having an issue where my older posts show up first on my blog. Does anyone know how I can switch it to where it will display my newest posts first?
    Thanks!!

    1. Your blog is pretty cool looking so far! I like the stylistic elements of it. It looks like a real interactive website as opposed to just a blog! Not that there’s anything wrong with “just a blog” (that’s the type of style my blog is…). The one thing I would say is that you should change the title of your “text widget” – in the top right hand column. “Text Widget” is probably not what you want there, especially because it’s a description of your blog.
      Looking forward to future posts!

      1. Thank you so much!!!
I’ll be honest.. “Text Widget” is DEFINITELY not what I wanted out there! :p
Thank you for spotting that for me! And I’m glad you liked the theme of the blog!
Can I know the link to your blog?
        Thank you again!

Cheers! Let me know if you want me to visit yours, I’d be glad to do so.

  9. Hey all! I’m back for the first time in a while. I just posted a new blog post! It’s a similar subject matter to my normal posts, but it’s a slightly different style. I’ve gone with a shorter post as opposed to something long and detailed. I don’t know which works better, or which style I like better.
Here’s https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/2017/02/12/wont-you-be-my-valentine/ the link to my new post
and here’s https://nikkispeaksfromtheheart.wordpress.com/2017/01/24/cosplay-just-a-little-bit-different/ a link to a completely different post that (1) I want to show off and (2) is stylistically similar to my other posts (longer, more ramble-y, etc) even if the content is different.
    What do you all think?

    1. Hi there! I stopped by your blog and really enjoyed this review. You have a sophisticated, poetic writing style that I admire. Your review also tackled some big ideas about happiness and the role of women without coming to any easy conclusions – definitely has me thinking some more on this subject!

I can’t think of many suggestions I would make, other than to say that I’d be in interested in any further observations you have of how the lessons of this book apply to the world you see around you. Again, thanks for sharing!

Btw, I’ve also just recently written a book review here: https://pinetreerepublic.com/2017/02/13/jennifer-welshs-the-return-of-history-redefining-liberal-democracy-for-the-21st-century/.

Though it’s a non-fiction book that deals with politics and international relations, I’d be keen for any feedback you have on making it more engaging or useful!

    1. Your site is easy to navigate. Your About page makes it clear what to expect from your site. I liked the photos on your latest post. Your tags seem appropriate. Overall, the post was easy to read. I did notice a few small grammar errors. For example, “Theres something” should be “There’s something” https://gracelead.co

    1. I love your blog. I love how personal the posts are, yet casual and conversational. It’s like your diary and I feel privileged to get to read some of your inner thoughts.

My blog is also a personal blog, but my posts are different stylistically than yours.

      1. I read a few of your posts and I really enjoy the way you write. It’s almost as if you are speaking with your conscious rather than an audience and like you I feel honored to have that little glimpse inside of who you are. I have followed you and look forwars to more of your posts.
