Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Hi! Congratulations on starting your blog! You may want to personalize your widgets to enhance your site’s identity and ease of use, you can do this through “My Site” under “Themes (customize).” Good luck! 🙂

  1. Hello folks!
My blog had just undergone a major “makeover” in terms of site title, tagline, site icon, and layout. Would appreciate your feedback! If you’d like to know the story behind everything I’ve done, kindly check my post “On Transitions”…

Also, does anyone here know why it’s become hard to upload an image to the media library? I’ve had no issues before…

    Once again, thank you!

      1. Hmm, I’m not sure what you mean by “adding a header photo”, as I already have one. Maybe you mean I should try making it more prominent? Thanks for the nice feedback though! I see you’ve commented here at the Community Pool as well, so I will check your blog too later!

      2. Oh forgive me. I didn’t realize it. What i am saying is add a prominent and colorful photo. But, it’s totally up to you!

Thank you for checking my blog!

  2. Hi all!
I am completely new to blogging. My site’s not really great and all. If you could excuse that and take a tour of it to let me know your navigating experience it’d be great. Also, if you can spare a few minutes please read my first posts. Let me know if I have put across my thoughts as comprehensively as I wanted to.

    1. Welcome! I think you express yourself clearly and feel sure you’ll enjoy blogging. I did notice that on the menu at the top, if you click on ‘Blog’, the page is empty apart from the title.

I would recommend any new blogger to work their way through the BloggingU Fundamentals course. There is no pressure and it really helps you to get things set up as you want so that you are happy with it. Ben has added a link in his introduction.

    2. Hi there! As far as your site, I would agree with Susurrus about the blogging course– I’ve found them so beneficial!

I enjoyed your post on memories. I left a comment on the post and gave you a follow, too! Good luck with your writing, Short Slayer!

  3. The idea for my blog is tennis commentary from my cat’s perspective, in doing so, honing my writing skills (humor and sports). Easy to do when their are major tournaments going on, but not so much when we are between tournaments. So, I decided I would try to incorporate other aspects of Frazier’s life. Here is my first attempt to really do a non-tennis post. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated. https://fraziersracket.wordpress.com/2017/02/05/intro-to-the-sunday-slice

    1. Don’t be worried. Just keep posting what you love and eventually people with the same interests will gravitate towards you. It’s better to have 10 active followers than people who follow just to say they did and you never hear from again. At least that is my opinion on it :).

    2. I agree with the others that you write really well. I found the wallpaper effect a bit distracting. You have quite a visual way of laying out your words, mixing larger letters with smaller ones, and in some of the poems you’re using gaps in the text to create an effect, but I felt the background picture is fighting against the effect as the white spaces it creates are random. That’s just my opinion – the picture itself is atmospheric.

      1. Thank you for the feedback. It’s a way of writing I’m enjoying. I hope you’ll add more comments as you read my others. I’m writing a short story, right now. I think the feedback makes for a better writer. Thank you for your comment and follow.

    1. Great stuff! The inspirational post rings true to life. You always wonder if you are doing the right thing or following the right path. Really who knows? You can only do your best and keep your spirits high. Eventually you will find your answer or you may not, but it’s better than being frustrated by the unknown.

  6. I have been thinking about truth lately. Real truth and not ‘alternative facts’. I was inspired to write this after coming across a song only recently unearthed by Johnny Cash. The song is actually a poem written by Hazrat Inayat Khan and due to current events, it really struck a nerve with me-

In addition, Mondays on my blog are always Monochrome Mondays, so have a look here and let me know if you have any feedback!

    1. You have a really beautiful site and I truly enjoyed your piece on truth. My favorite piece of advise I give to anyone who will listen is “the truth will set you free.” Meaning, life is easier, and frankly less exhausting, when you live your truth instead of hiding behind walls, false ideas and walls. The photographs are amazing, too.

      1. Thank you very much for the compliments, especially on the photos. That is a very good piece of advice to give anyone, and to live by as well. Thank you for that reminder. Much appreciated.

  7. One more from me this week and then I’m off to check out all your awesome blogs!

On my music blog I recently likened my ‘life journey’ to Kylie Minogue’s ‘music journey’ – I know, random right? But trust me – it makes sense.

I’d love to know what you think. Not only that – is there any music artist that has been with you through all the ups and downs of your life so far?

Let me know – I love to hear. Thanks 🙂

    1. I tried searching for your blog but got the message that it doesn’t exist. To make a clickable link for us, go to your blog, then copy the whole address (called the URL) from the white box at the very top of the page and paste it in to a comment. It should start with http:// or https://

When you post the comment the link will work and you’ll see it underlined.

      Good luck!

    2. Sorry I didn’t get back to you later. I’m just an occasional swimmer here 🙂 The first and third links work fine. Now people will be able to find you.

There is a lot written about social media marketing. Asking questions is a good idea – you’ll get more response to them when your blog is more established. It’s a good idea to search for bloggers in your Reader who are writing on similar subjects. As I mentioned to another blogger, a BloggingU course is a great way to get started. They’ll walk you through setting up widgets if you want to use them.

    1. Great Guide! My only comment will be to possibly adjust the background as it was quite difficult for me to see where to write in my comment on the all white theme. Other than that, I love it. I look forward to future posts.

    1. Hey Thunder Poet,
Couldn’t help but reply how amazing i think your poem was.
A suggestion – Use lesser tags as posts with too many tags are considered spam and you may have to delete your post.
      All the best!

And thank you for your suggestion, too.
Don’t get me wrong ’cause I don’t mean to object your advice, but before even using ‘tags’, I thoroughly researched its features and got enlightened about how we can use these uptil 15 before being declared as ‘spam’.
        Thanks for dropping by, though.
I really Appreciate your time and concern. 🙂
