Community Pool

The place for blogging camaraderie, feedback, and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hiya, person scrolling down the comments. 😀
So, this is my most recent post. It’s kind of a broken record, but I believe that you’ve got the patience, haven’t you?! 😉

    A Writer’s Broken Record…. – Poem – http://wp.me/p7Klwb-95

      1. That pop is a widget itself, and there is a close button to it as well. I dont know why you faced that issue, as no one else ever did. Still i will try to make it look better. Anyways pop ups are always annoying xD

  2. Hello everyone! I’ve been posting for a while now about the everyday thoughts of a college girl living abroad (that’s me) and would love your feedback 🙂 Here’s my blog

    About me

Also if you drop a link to your blog, I’d love to read and follow!
    Thanks 🙂

    1. I like your header image, but I found it a little hard to navigate your site besides just scrolling. Maybe think about adding a menu at the top of your blog– it could lead to an About Me, Contact Page, and/ or different post categories that you have. Just a thought!

    1. First thing I noticed: great visual aesthetic! Simple, feminine, and balanced. Well done. It’s obvious you work hard to keep your theme going, and I appreciate that. I’m a new follower 🙂

    2. I like your customized title at the top and you have an easy to follow blog which is nice! Going to your blog from my phone I was unable to see the side that told about you, so maybe adding an About Me will fix that. Everything else looks great

    3. It’s clean, It’s lively, It’s chic. I think this is the perfect platform to use Instagram (in case you have one) )..this will increase your visibility and will act as a stimuli to your blog. 🙂

  3. Good afternoon all!
I have recently started a gaming and geek blog and I would love any feedback regarding my posts and topic ideas. Also, if someone knows of a way that I can show the Upcoming Posts each week on a Calendar or Side Widget, help with that would be very much appreciated! Have a fantastic week!

    1. Nice blog, as a gamer myself I can’t decide between genres of games so maybe the front page’s poll could be some games in particular and make it weekly/monthly polls. I can decide between The Witcher and The Last of Us, but can’t between RPGs, Shooters, Sports or Survivals. Maybe some other kind of games classification?

What do you expect from Nintendo Switch for the future? Any games in particular (not announced)?

      1. Thank you for the feedback I will definitely switch the poll up to be more decisive and weekly. Maybe even themed!
I am hoping that Nintendo Switch will be a better version of the WiiU. I love the fact that we will be able to play at home on the TV or take the game around the house, say if I was cooking I didn’t have to stop gaming. As for the games, I’m a big fan of Mario Party/Kart games so I’m excited for that. I am also hoping for Splatoon 2 as that game is crazy addictive on WiiU lol and I’ve heard a rumor about a new Zelda game which would be awesome. What are you looking forward to?

    2. You got some sweet content, I like how you cover a broad spectrum under that niche of gaming and geekiness haha! I’m excited for Red Dead Redemption 2, are you looking forward to Horizon Zero Dawn or any other games coming out soon?

      1. Thank you, much appreciated. I struggle with making sure that I am not adding too many different topics on this blog that wouldn’t fit lol.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to be awesome I just hope that i releases before the end of the year! 🙂
I have heard about Horizon Zero Dawn and I think it will be nice new game for me to try out. I am looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 3, Halo Wars 2 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3!
Which games are you looking forward to?

      2. Ghost Recon: Wildlands actually looks like an interesting game. For the 1st time in about 7 years I haven’t had the urge to pick up the newest Call of Duty : Infinite Warfare, so I am in need of another Shooter to go along with Gears of War 4. I might have to check out Ghost Recon! 🙂

      3. I liked it too and always see people bash it. I don’t really like the space stuff they’ve been diving into. I like Titanfall, but that’s completely different in it’s own right.

  4. Hey there,

I’m not a food blog, but rather documenting my journey of being a more conscious comsumer when it comes to what I buy & where it comes from. As a result, I end up gravitating toward a number of food-related things since that’s one of my primary expenses. In any case, since I’ll likely be posting a fair amount about food anyways, I’m looking for feedback in my presentation of recipes/food related things. Here’s my latest post about making yogurt:

    Homemade Greek Yogurt

Thanks y’all! I’m also looking to follow more like-minded blogs so feel free to reach out if you’re writing in a similar vein.

  5. Hi everyone,

I’m an English girl with a travel blog. One of the most recent cultures I have experienced are the Amish in Tennessee – the topic of this post. Additionally, I hoping to find out a bit more about travel blog readers out there – whether you would advise greater focus towards description or advice. I am interested what you read travel blogs for and why?

    Thank you!

  6. Hey everybody, have recently posted another travel piece (first one when clicking my name) and would love some feedback. What do people actually look for in a travel post, is this relevant etc. Thanks! 🙂

    1. I really enjoyed reading a few of your posts, you have such a voice, I can really envisage what you’re saying, if that makes any sense!?

  7. Hi all, hope you’re doing well! I recently wrote about my phobia and the effect it had on my life; from childhood to actually realising that I had a phobia; and it’s one of the many posts on my blog that have more a sinister tone to it. You can find them on the ‘Inspired by Fear’ category on the menu on the right-hand side of my homepage. Hope you enjoy, and let me know if I can return the favour. Matt.X

    1. I’ve been hearing a lot about Halo Top, but wasn’t sure what the hype was all about. Thanks for shedding light on the product. And thanks for being honest in your review; honesty is hard to come by these days when it comes to review blogs. Can’t wait to read more of your posts in the future. 🙂

  8. Hi everyone,
here’s a link to a post I have written about my new mind set and how we should all try to value the things we have in life rather than focus on the things we don’t. I also hope that it can cheer some people up during these gloomy winter months!
Would love some constructive criticism if anyone has the time!!

    Thanks a lot! Mabel x

  9. Hey Guys! I have been having a bit of writer’s block and this is a post I have set aside and come back to after a while. I am finding that sometimes my posts have a bit of an abrupt ending – if you know what I mean. Any advice on how to make a more well-rounded post would be awesome. Also, any ideas for encouraging interactions/comments etc. are welcome as well.

    1. I didn’t think this post ended too abruptly, but I write some posts in a similar fashion. To me, this is a poetic ending, you’re stopping when the reader needs to start thinking instead of explaining the idea for them. Overall, I really enjoyed your post and I agree with a lot of what you said.

If you’re looking to encourage interactions/comments I find that asking questions throughout/at the end of a post can jump start that interaction. So for your recent post, maybe ask people to share their recent interactions with being insulted or insulting someone unintentionally and reflect on why that situation happened. Along with that, ask your readers to leave a comment to discuss the post.

      Hope this helps!
