The place for blogging camaraderie, feedback, and advice.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:
- Learn, a series of step-by-step tutorials for those just starting out.
- All our posts on building an audience and growing your traffic.
- If you’re stuck for inspiration, here are our Daily Prompts and other ideas for writing topics.
- A roundup of posts on blogging etiquette.
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

Greetings fellow bloggers! This week here’s a link to a story I just published on my flash fiction blog, To Cut a Short Story Short. It’s entitled Gone Fishing (700 words). It’s based on a childhood memory, which I think makes quite a good story, and carries a moral too!

Great post! I think its around the perfect length – i tend not to read really long posts because i have a really short attention span!

I think that’s a good length: for me, between 300 and 1,000 usually keeps my attention. Anything less than 300 can seem slight and undeveloped. Length is conditional though: as long as you introduce your point and develop it appropriately, as you have here, it doesn’t have to be too long.

Hi Bloggers – In general, I try to keep my blog apolitical. The focus of the content is supposed to be running, mental health and family life. And I try to intersperse some humor in most posts. Every now and then the world frustrates me enough that I write a political post (which is usually something of a rant). As readers, how do you feel about getting blindsided by a hyper-political post on rare occasion? Bloggers who are not political bloggers, if/when you do this, do you lose followers?
LikeLiked by 11 people
I’m interested to know what people say because I just posted a political post. I mean, I don’t think you can very well ignore things that are going on when they’re block capital BAD NEWS. I mean, I could, but it would feel disingenous.
I want my blog to be light-hearted, but I don’t want to be an ostrich with my head in the sand either…

I went a political route after Donald Trump’s election and I have actually gained followers. I think the people who follow an individual blog get to know the readers perspective and, even if they disagree, they’re still willing to stick around.

That was a good post, I’m going to give you a follow. I feel like we are at a time right now where whether we want to or not, we need to draw lines of right and wrong, and not be afraid of our convictions. Friendships may be lost, but it seems important to speak our minds. I can think of nothing better than by blogging!

This is interesting, because I feel the exact same way, except my political posts remain in Drafts or get deleted. It’s the only thing being covered in the news 24/7, so if fellow bloggers comment and put their own spin on things, I don’t have any issues with it, even if we have differing opinions.

Hello, just a question: how do you actually “add” a read more tag to posts? My homepage only shows excerpts but there’s no “Read More” at the end, only an ellipsis (…) and I’m not sure if that’s emphasis enough for readers to realize it’s not yet the end of my post, especially if I add an excerpt that’s one paragraph long ✌

Well in the text editor there’s actually a button that when you click will insert a read more line. Just search around and you’ll find it.

I don’t have a solid answer for you there, but I find that people tend to gravitate toward the things THEY like, so even if you’re really passionate about something it may take a little while to gain a following that values the same things. Food is the same way; recipies on my blog seem to get more attention than the other posts I personally like or am proud of. So I’m right there with ya! That being said, I really like your about page & share some of your interests. Looking forward to reading more!

In time you will find your niche, and if you don’t, that’s okay. Putting your posts into categories may help, so that you can write about sustainable living, minimalism, books, cats… And pretty much about anything as long as they’re easy to find through categories. You may also try to think something these categories have in common, and that becomes your niche. Think simple living, home life, something like that… hope that helps. Good luck and just keep blogging! See you around! 🌻
