Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi I’m Adelina!
I’m a teen blogger blogging about everything teen 🙂 I try to spice up my posts with a bit of humour and inspiration! All feedback is welcome

This post is about the lessons I’ve learned in 2016 and it really means a lot to me https://thelivingmeblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/31/16-lessons-ive-learned-in-2016/

And of course, this one is titled “A View of Soceity: Post Trump Inaugaration” from the view of a 14 year old girl.

    1. Hey Adelina ,your 2016 lessons were really motivating but one suggestion regarding that exitement part-Exitement is very much needed in our life so don’t worry about the result and do it with full enthusiasm but yes there should be a controlled outer version of exitement which you can surely follow.

      1. Your post here has a lot of likes already – it may be that the bold type helps people skim read to the end and they get the main thrust of what you’re saying so that could end up being a good thing. One idea would be to make a habit of reading just the bold type to see what impression it gives when read on its own. Perhaps you’re already doing this?

      2. I’ve never used Medium – how would you characterise the community you have there? I prefer WordPress to Facebook or Twitter because the people here are almost invariably kind and supportive.

      3. Medium I’ve found is great for finding people who share your content. But they seem to lack the support of WordPress users. I use my Facebook business page to share my WordPress hosted articles. Medium also lacks the analytics that other platforms provide!

    1. Nice post. I am a part time entrepreneur as well and have often found myself having the same discussion with those around me. You can truly make time for what you want. Best wishes in your endeavors!

    1. Wow! Those are crazy stories I really enjoyed this post. I think a way to improve your writing would be to have a “hook” sentence to start off your post. Something fun to draw readers in and make it feel natural.

    1. I think something that could be helpful would be changing your font or font size as right now your title is a little hard to read!

      1. Have you looked at the theme showcase for something else? You can preview any theme with your content in the Customizer before enabling the theme on your site.

      2. Yeah, in fact I have a private site where I have copied all my contents and test out different themes. I liked a few themes but came here for suggestions whether I should consider switching themes or not?+
        Thanks

  2. I had a blog a few years ago, but my ex boyfriend deleted it out of spite when we broke up, which made me sad and I lost all inspiration for writing.

However, this January my best friend and I were inspired to start a new blog and I would really appreciate your thoughts and comments!

What do you find is the best way to encourage people to stop by and have a read of your blog?

    1. I’m sorry to hear about your bad experiences and hope you’ll come to enjoy having a completely fresh start. My tips are: tag and categorise your posts so people can find them in their Readers; take part in some of the challenges and blogging events you’ll see going on around you; follow some people writing on subjects you’re writing on too and learn from them; spend half your blogging time reading other people’s posts; like any posts that you genuinely enjoy or that tell you something new and comment thoughtfully when you have something to say.

    2. So I’m guessing that Clarke and Rowls are your last names (or nicknames?)because you introduce your first names in your About page. I think you should perhaps make that more clear, especially since you have Clarke and Rowls as categories. Perhaps your should also introduce yourselves a bit more so people can get to know you individually (again, this ties to the separate categories).
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Hi! I’m not so much into fashion but I did like your post. 😃 Just a thought,
would it be possible to give actual evidence that these products could irritate skin? A latest new report or something would be useful, I think, to convince your reader.

    1. Gave you a follow because I loved the look to your blog. Your layout definitely fits the overall mood you present. I was wondering if you might have too large a tag cloud? I’ve experimented with mine. I used to have a lot then I trimmed it down substantially. Obviously if its working don’t fix it!

      1. Thanks! I recently switched up a bit of the layout to better suit my readers. I noticed that as well, but I’m uncertain as to how to change that. When I use tags it sorts of saves them. Any idea on how I could change that? It would be greatly appreciated!

      2. There may be other ways, but when I make adjustments I go to WP Admin/Appearance/Widgets. From there if you go to Tag Cloud, you can reduce the total number that show up on the page, and also manually type in ones you want to exclude. Every once in awhile I go in and trim those out when they aren’t as important to the main ones I need like ‘Music’ Photography, etc. Hope that makes sense.

    1. Hello! The Community Pool is for sharing one, maybe a couple of links — so I’ve removed several of the ones you included in your comment (the large number of links is why the comment got stuck in moderation; our software suspects that multi-link comments might be spam). The idea is that people who visit your blog and enjoy your posts will explore more of them organically, so it’s best to share either your very latest or something you’re particularly keen to get feedback on. Thanks!
