First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hello First Fridayers,
I have had a blog on Facebook for six years and I’m hoping to move out of that venue into a RSS blog. I love my blog, 365 Holidays a Year. It’s my history fix for the day and I have a few faithful followers. But I’m getting to the point that I dread opening Facebook especially now. I have friends all the way from far left to far right so I am bombarded by posts of every description. I know I’ll lose some followers when I leave that platform, and I may never hear from my sisters-in-law again since they chronicle their entire lives there. But I’m really getting sick of it and want out.

    1. Loving the blog! Fun facts and obscure national days amuse me greatly! Like the simply layout, my only thought would be to include a follow button so people can easily subscribe. Glad to have you around!

    1. It’s a great start. But you might wanna increase the font size, it’s a little too small when read on phone.
      Otherwise, you’re good to go.
      Welcome!
Hope you have a good time!
      Cheers! 🍻

  2. Hi everyone,
I’m new to blogging but after a lot of convincing, I decided to do it. I hope you and others enjoy it. Also, I still have a bit of trouble editing my page title. Any tips would help.
    Thank you.

If you want to change your blog’s title, you can do that my going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity. Or is there something else you wanted to change?

    1. Hi there, love the energy in your blog. Couple of suggestions, do consider writing something about yourself or about the blog under your About page. I love the background photo but the colour makes it difficult for one to read the text. Happy blogging!

      Cheers

  3. 21st century dating is supposed to be easy, right? We have technology at our fingertips that connects us with limitless potentials, resources and “how to’s” to help with dating, and methods to encourage and develop the longevity of our relationships. Yeah…the truth is that nothing has changed. The dating world is still as unpredictable and confusing as ever.

As a first-timer at modern dating, I decided to document my experiences in a satirical and relatable blog so that others may take comfort knowing that they are not alone in their unfortunate interactions. This is not an attempt to share my expert opinion or encourage people to follow in my footsteps, if anything you probably shouldn’t. In contrast, my goal is to normalize the complexities of dating in the modern era in the hope that others will feel more comfortable in their own experiences (and mishaps). Please note that the purpose is purely comedic entertainment, and I poke fun at these circumstances to encourage a light-hearted view of dating. All criticism is purely facetious and is not to be taken seriously.

Although I’m attempting to specialize in technologically-savvy dating, I am quite inept at navigating programs and software (the irony!). If you suggest a non-substantive change to my work that requires an understanding of how to customize the website, please include with your advice a method of how I can implement it.

Sit back, relax, and laugh (at me) as I blunder through the intricacies of finding love in the modern world.

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      Welcome!

  4. Hi,
I am also foraying into blogging as a first, though have been an avid reader throughout my life.

I am very excited to finally find such an outlet with so many expertise and inspiring people around.

Kindly offer your response and suggestions on my blog and on my first post made 2 days ago.

Reading some of the comments here is inspiring enough to write more!

    Cheers!

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. Hi @datingdiva2017, Welcome! FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s main, public home page page and click on a post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that. Here’s your site: https://100firstdates2017.wordpress.com/

    1. I love this for so many reasons, mainly because your blog is exactly like me, i wanted to start a blog for ages but felt i didn’t really have an angle, an area in which i’m really good at, like you i like fashion, traveling, food and photography but feel not quite good enough to have a blog dedicated to. So mine is pretty much just my life, i have a bucket list so i’m aiming to try and complete as many of those things as i can.

  6. A souvenir.

Hey, Bloggers. I made this blog some months ago and didn’t do anything about it because I wasn’t really sure about putting my words out ‘there’.
Well, now I’ve decided to try harder. Let’s see how this goes.
    P.S – I love reading your works. It’s a great community. :’)
