First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hi I’m Grim Angel, I have been blogging for at least a month now. I mainly write fictional short stories, poems, and a little more on my blog. I am horror based since that’s my niche, but you may find a lot of my poetry enjoyable. I also look forward to posting the dark poetry of fellow bloggers as well to help bring in more followers for the both of us. Please check out my blog:

    1. Welcome Grim.
Just one thing, I don’t think you want your home page to be static. Lazy people (like me) don’t like to search for posts. Maybe you should make your home page such that your latest posts come into view.
Otherwise, since I love poetry, I read yours and they are nice.
      Keep’em coming!
      Happy blogging.
And you can always message me if you want any sorta help. 🙂

      1. Thanks! There are more dark stories posted. I’m starting to turn things that people love and enjoy dark. Some of the most horrifying stories are gathered from reality based things and people. Hope you continue to read and enjoy!

  2. I have been a ghost online as far as I can remember. You know… the kinda person who never comments and never ‘likes’ anything. Not that I didn’t want to… I was scared!
Big leap of faith right now: I live in Dubai and I’d like to tell the world what it’s really like… the last five years have been CRA-ZY. I was 20-something when I moved to the desert, I was broke, single and clueless about, well, life I suppose. The story is full disclosure – word of warning.
Hope to see you pass by!!

    1. Hi @scienceminer! We’re really glad you’re so excited about your blog (yay!), but would appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple replies linking to your site in this thread and in the other challenges on this site — it’s considered a bit spammy, and we’ll remove them. If you’re hoping to get folks here to visit and engage with you, it’s much more useful to visit them, and leave them a note or some feedback!”

  3. Hi everyone,
I’ve just enrolled at Blogging U (you must try it!) and I think it’s helping me because these past few days I’ve been wandering around aimlessly here. Anyway, I just want feedback for my first assignment (link below).
I’ve also tinkered around with themes and started with my 2nd assignment too, which is updating site title and tagline. Any honest feedback is welcome, thanks so much!

  4. Hi, I wanted to start blogging because I rant too much to my friends. Not necessarily hyper talkative, I’m kind of shy around new people. But I do talk a lot. Just going to let my mind loose and vent everything out. Maybe I’ll be a little calmer this way.

  5. Hi so I am new, I just posted my first blog 2 days ago and tonight I posted my third. As a new blogger, I am struggling to find my writing voice in my blogs. I would appreciate any feedback. My blog will mostly be on evironmental issues, wildlife, and wildlife rehabiliation and the ocasional post on yoga, healthy living, and hiking! I would also love to find other blogs that have similar interests.

Here’s the link to my first post which features my buddy Nelson the crow:

    1. Welcome to blogosphere!
Your blog looks good to go, just one little thing, your home page seems to be static, and trust me, with lazy people like me, you don’t wanna take risk of losing your readers just cause they won’t bother to go to your menu option and select blog.
Other than that, it seems perfect.
      Best of luck.. 👍👍

      1. Thank you so much for checking out your blog and responding with feedback. Question, I have been wondering how to make it like that because I am like you it’s a bit annoying. Any tips?

      2. Visit your blogging website and their you’ll see an option saying “customise”. (Right bottom corner).
In that, the menu option, the home page option, it’s pretty user friendly, but I’m here if you need any help. 😊
