Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I loved the header and the way you make it easy to follow you on the blog and on on social media via the widgets on the side. I’m not too keen on pop ups that block most of the screen and will often abandon a blog or website because of them. Perhaps that’s just me!

      1. It’s always good to test options and see what works best for you and your readers. I do prefer it to visiting a blog, wanting to follow and not being able to work out how!

    2. I like your blog! New York being what it is, you could write about it forever!! BTW, on the Urban Vegan post, the pin image has a link, but the link is broken. 😦 Also, the blue text on the pin image is super hard to read – might want to try something a little different to make the pin more readable! Otherwise I look forward to following your New York adventures!

    2. I had a few issues clicking on the menu bar in blue at the top using my laptop. I clicked on About Me, which was fine, but clicking on the other pages still brought me to About Me. I did get the Humor one to work at one stage, but it just brought up one post, unlike the Category widget which brought up several posts. You might like to experiment and double check that the menu bar is working the way you want it to. But I loved the look of your site – it’s very clean and easy to read.

    1. Hey, you have really cool and interesting blog. Here is what I experienced after I read your post UNSEEN, UNKNOWN, UNEXPERIENCED. It didn’t find an option to like it and when I tried to leave a comment it asked me for my email address, my url, my name etc each field was with a star indicating a must fill out field. I generally do not share some of this info, thus i didn’t leave a comment. I did love the post though!! Keep up good work! I can’t advise you how to fix that (if you do want to, that is) because I am new myself and am completely confused by my own layout even though I like it.

    1. Loved “Who Am I?” and “Syrup.” ♡ May I make one observation? You may want to pass posts through a grammar checker before you upload them. Aside from that, your posts are very relatable. Nice work!

    1. Congratulations! Nice work.

What is that playing in the background? I’m reading on mobile and I can’t track it down. Do you have a video embedded in the post? If so, it didn’t show up for me (but I could sure hear it! LOL!). ♡

  1. Hiii friends! I have just written a post on Starks, from Game of Thrones. I want to know your feedback. I want to know if people who already know about them agree with what i have written and can suggest more that I could have added. At the same time, those who don’t know Starks, could you connect with them through my post?

  2. Hello everyone – I’ve only been doing this a week or so, and would love constructive feedback/pointers on my blog, which is here: https://lostastronomer.wordpress.com/

My wife is undergoing IVF, which has led me to a discovery: If you’re a woman going through IVF, there’s tons of info. But if you’re a bloke? Not so much. I’m blogging about IVF from the male point of view and would love to know what you think!

Oh, and also, there’s struggling with part time university courses on top of all that – no biggie…

  4. Hi, I recently started a photo project where I post two images a day, and I was wondering if people like the ability to scroll infinitely, or if they prefer to have it stop after about seven posts (or a different number) so that way the footer wigits show up and viewers have the ability to choose specific days or subscribe to my site.

This is a very simplistic blog, and I use it to post two photos each day with no words or descriptions. I want the pictures to tell the story themselves.

You can find my new photoblog at http://andrews.photos

Let me know what you think! Thanks!

    1. Considering the theme you’ve chosen I think having, as you’ve said, 7 posts or so and then being able to press ‘load more’ is great so that your viewers are also able to choose date and such at the bottom of the page. Maybe that would get lost a bit if you can just scroll down infinitely:)
I like how simple the blog is, but also the simplicity in the photos. They’re pretty great!
I hope some of this was useful.
      Have a great day/evening/night 😛

Most of all I am concerned that my blog layout is confusing so please if you find it so let me know, I also appreciate any pointers on the subjects I touch upon or on photography in general or just let me know what you think. Whatever it is your feedback is welcome and thank you very much for taking the time.

    1. Well, baby feet at the top of the page make your blog amazing from the get go! 🙂 I think your content is very easy to follow and I enjoy the simple, dark colors on your blog layout. Will be following along!

  6. Hello fellow bloggers at the pool!
I hope you’re all having a mighty fine time.
If you have an extra minute, (which I’m guessing you do since you’re here), it would be awesome if you’d check out my blog at:
    ihaveabadsenseofhumor.wordpress.com
I promise I’m slightly funnier than my name might suggest, (but only a little bit;P).
Feedback is always very much appreciated and I’m always happy to return the favor, so I can discover new blogs myself 🙂
    Cheers!
