Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and conversations about blogging.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi guys! I´d love to hear your opinions and feedback on my blog´s new design!
I got a little bit bored of how my blog looked like before and used my Christmas break to re-desing it a bit.. Let me know what you think, if the orientation on my site is simple and anything else that pops into your mind. Thanks a lot 🙂

      1. Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated.. I look at your blog, and now I see what you meant that it my blog look cluttered 🙂 I like the way you organized your design, it is very simple and easy to navigate through – simply said your blog is straight to the point.. I guess I miss pictures a bit but that is everyone´s personal preference.

    1. You are off to a good start. Going forward, you might consider how to organize your posts by category. You could then have your Menu display the categories. For an example of how that can work, see my site https://gracelead.co Mine is a blog/website blend on biblically-based leadership principles.

It is a compliment my cleaning business and provide some tidbits and information. Gear more towards those with not much time to read lengthy article, preferably over a cup of coffee on their phone.

The site is https://simpledayscleaning.wordpress.com/ Will be updating address shortly.

    1. Website looks very professional! I like the simplicity, and i think it is important to remember most people skim when they read articles online – you nailed it. As with many blogs (mine included) the one improvement I would suggest is it appears a bit cluttered as you scroll down the page, but great work!

  7. Hi, Ever’body!

Pobre Tomat here–just published the latest installment (9th to date) of one of my Daddy’s favorite Sunday Afternoon Drive stories. I’m trying to keep them short and sweet, little chunks. I hear his voice as I write and am doing my best to serve well his memories

Take a look–I appreciate all comments.

Hope you’re all on track, I’ve been doing a great deal of “blog-surfing” and am amazed at the depth of talent out there–often awestruck!

    1. I like the blog. The only constructive criticism would be that due to the large font size on your main page your paging options are covered up and unreadable. Also, there appears to be a couple places where the template text remains. I agree with the previous post. Love the name.

  10. I’ve started a new project, even with some sample YouTube videos. It’s mainly geared at parents using their kid’s toys and bodyweight exercises to workout. The blog right now is sparse, but mind some feedback on the motivation post. Also, can some of you provide thoughts on the overall idea/theme?

    Thanks!

  11. Hello WordPressVerse,

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and brought 2017 in with a bang. I have had my blog for about 2 years now but it seems to have just collected dust, and a goal for this year is to post 2-3 times per week. However, I want the content to be interesting. I would really appreciate some feedback on my most recent post and blog in general:

    https://livingforthatdream.wordpress.com/2017/01/11/difficult-roads-often-lead-to-beautiful-destinations/

Is the content interesting? Is it too vague?

I would love to engage and discover some new bloggers too so please leave a link to your blog so that I can follow! 😀

      1. Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to read it and provide the feedback. I wasn’t sure if it was too vague because I didn’t want to delve into all the finer details of what happened.

    1. I did the same thing with my friend group I hungover with the majority of my teen years. Still have some friends from home, but I’m a lot happier because of it. Not too vague, but if it’s content you want to pursue in later posts, some context might be needed if you’re going to continue it. Otherwise, all looks great!

    1. I didn’t know what would show up after clicking on your blog; it was a nice surprise. The page set-up is impressive, especially the photos that show under a few titles and I liked the “young writer” post. You might want to add a category pop-up and a ‘follow’ link for guests to click on. Good luck.

  12. Hi – I started a blog last year, as part of a Professional Writing Course, about my experiences and learning curves raising a child with Asperger’s Syndrome. I really want to keep it going, and get it out there … but I am not sure what to do to gain extra traffic and followers … or even if my content is worth it for the wider audience. Would love some feedback and suggestions,

    1. I like the way you described your blog on your About page. I too swing purple. I think it might be nice to instead of linking to your Gravatar page, make a new About page through the WP editor and drop your bio into that.

As a politics junkie, I’m excited to take a look through your blog.

      1. Thanks for the ‘about’ page suggestion; I haven’t spent much time on things like that. It took months before I properly set up the page and started adding links to the posts.
I have to hand it to you, I’ve never seen a blog tackle international relations in a way that’s as straightforward and funny.

    1. Hi, your posts are really reflective and well written 🙂 I think the fear of no one reading them probably goes away once you have written more blog posts, or perhaps writing more frequently. The quality of the content you are creating is wonderfully well thought out, so just hang in there 🙂
