Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and conversations about blogging.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Greetings everyone,
I had recently posted a poem titled “The chaotic mind” which talks about how a girl wishes to entangle herself from the dark sides of her soul and blossom into a stronger and brighter person. Would love to hear your feedbacks.

    1. I liked the thoughts in your post. You did have a few grammatical errors. For instance, people is plural and needs a verb to match. “People working in higher positions who misuse their positions and try to demean and degrade their colleagues and subordinates.” https://gracelead.co

  6. Hey,

I hope that everyone feels pretty happy on this journey. I am also very new to blogging, and was looking for feedback on quality and content. I would also know how I can improve, although I have only been at this for one month, I want to reach more people. I don’t know if I need to pay to generate more traffic, or do I need to pay to promote more pins (which can be quite pricey) for one that has left the career. At some point, we would all love to be paid, and I was wondering how long it took for some of the more experienced bloggers to acquire income. And on that, also what are you writing about that is drawing in so many people? My blog is http://www.brownsugarglam.com. Thanks for your feedback, and I will take time to review the other resources here, as I am sure that they will help.

    Thanks again.

    1. The best free way to generate traffic is to comment on other people’s posts like crazy. If you visit someone’s blog and leave a thoughtful comment, people are likely to return the favor. It also helps to publicize your blog on various social media pages like Twitter and Facebook. There are some good blogging groups on Facebook where on certain says you can promo you posts. Make sure to use tags everywhere you’re posting your content so others can find it easily.

I just posted a new poem that I wrote for my best friend on his birthday. It means a lot to me and I’d love for you to check it out and leave me some feedback 🙂

    1. You are a brave girl writing so young. I like the way you write what you are feeling in a very readable way. I expect other young people will enjoy your blog. Well done. As a mum I would say to you, please be careful not to give to much of yourself online…. it stays forever. Oh, and stay safe. Well done though. X

      1. Thank you so much. I’ve talked to my parents about how much I should share online and I understand that the internet is dangerous and irreversible. Thank you for the comment and your concern❤

    1. I think that’s alright, easy access to every post, but yeah, as for me, it would be better to add the blog section in the menu, but it’s only my poin of view))

    1. Summer, I like the thoughts in your post. I did find a few places where you could improve the clarity of your writing. For example, here is an edit that might make it easier for your readers to follow along, “This is the place where I met April. She was a nice little girl, shy, cute (loving food also, ahah) I was weird. Since I wanted to be friends with the coolest child there, I didn’t communicate with April.” https://gracelead.co

    2. Hey Summer.
I absolutely LOVE the way you write. I’m sorry but I didn’t really get the time to read a lot of your posts, I kinda have exams going on but I’ll make sure I read each one of them.

  11. Hi everyone! Total newbie here in the blogging world but trying to be prolific and stick to it(for once).

I’m not sure how to handle layout. I love the simple design I have going on but feel as though having my entire posts rather than a preview is starting to get cluttered looking or not. Is it possible to make that happen in my current layout or does anyone have any recommendations for a clean but easy to navigate layout?

I focus on minimalism, animals and wardrobe/beauty as of now but have several allergy friendly recipes I’m in the process of cleaning up.

    1. Since your post is lengthy, some people will not scroll down to find other posts that might interest them. My suggestion, if your theme allows it, is to put a Read More tag after the first few sentences. [Look in the editing bar for an icon that looks like a block with two solid lines separated by a dashed line.] Doing this will cause only the lines before the Read More tag to show on your Home page. If you do this with all posts, visitors can scroll and get a quick glance at your latest posts. Another suggestion is to assign your posts to just one category and then have your Menu display the categories. For instance, if you assigned your current post to Pets and you have your categories in your Menu, a person interested in pets could click Pets and see all your posts on pets. https://gracelead.co

    2. Like the site and your beauty challenge was cool! Impressive. But, I’d like to see the like button after reading a post, didn’t see it. I don’t think people will want to go to another page just to hit like. But everything else is good, as for me)

    1. Hi Colin! I´m a big fan of history so I loved your article, it refreshed my memory on the past events. My friendly suggestion for you will be maybe to include more pictures or visual content into your post so it is more eye-catching.

Also this article might be a bit too long to absorb it all at one. Speaking from my reader´s position, I would prefer a bit shorter post so I can read from the beginning to the end.

Otherwise, I think you did a great job 🙂
