Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and conversations about blogging.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. I’m not correct with my words and often type way too fast. I try to write the daily prompts as quickly as I can think the story up. I did update the post to “I saw”. Thank you for reading and feedback.

    1. I loved reading your post. Crocheting is something I have always wanted to learn how to do. It looks like it could be a fun hobby.

    1. The prompts section consist of short poetic pieces with an ambiguous yet provoking undertones while the thoughts section has the more personal and therefore longer outlooks on the seemingly trivial things in life. Hope you enjoy them!

    1. Nice post with lots of facts and figures. For me personally, I would have liked to seen your opinion at the end of the post about the data you had presented. Good job otherwise!

    1. Love that you take in strays and your dogs look great. I would add some sort of category or tag system though as the more posts you have the harder it is to keep track for readers.

      1. I think you’ll need to add some sort of sidebar (or on the bottom) that shows it more clearly or add a category section to your menu

    2. This is such an adorably heartwarming topic for a blog! That said, I think you should put a picture of Rufus as your profile image to make your online presence more inviting. The public ought to see how cute he is whenever they see your avatar image!

      1. I have been trying and I’m getting frustrated. I am trying to upload, and then Gravatar tells me “whoops” and I start over – but I’m doing everything they are telling me to do.Argh!

      2. Haha! I think I may have solved it on literally the seventh try. After cropping and saving, I’d get to a “whoops” message about not having an image. Finally we got to choose our “G” rating. This is all new to me so I’m moving along at a snail’s pace! LOL

  2. Hey everybody,

Been in the trenches trying to produce good content and stay driven to keep writing so I would love some feedback on my blog Earth to Ash at http://www.darealash.com

I am considering some changes in the new year but it’s always a work in progress, I appreciate any insight or comments you may have.

    Thanks

    1. I really like what you’re writing here. Your posts are personal and cover a variety of topics/events, which is something I like in a personal blog.

Maybe think about adding an “About” page so people can get to know you and your blog a little better? I personally always click About pages as soon as I land on a new blog just so I can quickly figure out what kind of content to expect.

      Good work and happy blogging!

    1. The photos are awesome! Consider uploading one of them (or a photo of yourself) as your profile image. It’s more inviting than the anonymity of the gray silhouette that comes as a default.

    1. I like your blog name and the description of how you chose it! Does your theme allow you to include a short tagline at the top about “palhachi?” I think it might be cool to showcase that more.

  3. Hi all! I’m a young fiction writer, recent college grad, and recent-er employed adult who’s trying (and often failing) to juggle the world. It’s a new year & I’m recommitting myself to my writing/blogging! (Bet you haven’t heard that one before…)

Here’s a teensy tiny list of my top posts from last year. Check it out and let me know what you think! 🙂

  4. Hello, and Happy New Year! Formerly known as tishwebberwow, I have changed my address to match my pen name, Tish MacWebber. I had some constructive feedback when I posted my first page here, and I am looking to see if the new and improved blog page is looking better. If you stop to read any of my posts and like them, you know what to do. I am shooting for an author page, as I write song lyrics and am writing a book. Since the last round of comments helped me shape the page I have today, I am wondering if the page looks any better, with my own touches here, there, and everywhere. Thanks for reading!

I have been working at this non stop over the holidays. It is still under construction, but I am hoping that my efforts will be noticeable to anyone that was following the old links.
I have a logo, tartan, brand and colour scheme now. I am pleased with the changes, and if there is any more feedback I would take it under consideration like I did last time.
Yes, the author pic is in the works, and the goodreads is on my list of things to do.

    1. It’s lovely, informative post about Google technology and its small tweaks. Your blog layout is clear but a bit dull because everything is gray and muted. I’d try to mess with more aesthetic designs and color schemes to make it eye catching.

      1. Thank you! 🙂 I’m usually just too lazy to come up with names, especially since I don’t intend the stories to be related to each other. But I’ll try doing that a little more often.

And thank you so much for taking the time to check my post out! I’m glad you enjoyed and I appreciate the feedback 😀

    1. Names are helpful to readers because they can more easily identify the writing. Like, “Hey, Fifteen Minutes or Less has an awesome story called Infinite.” It helps with searchability.

Also, what a cute way to propose!

      1. Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, I agree. I’m just too lazy or pressed for time sometimes, and I think that there’ll be no harm done since the stories aren’t connected to each other, haha. But thank you, I’ll improve on that bit as I go along! 🙂

And I’m glad you think it’s cute! I actually haven’t seen it done yet, but the idea came into my geeky mind 😉
