First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to their first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your post, copy and paste the link right into a comment here.

Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment!

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • The third time is not the charm: don’t share your stuff repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. These will be removed as well.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments or repeatedly replying to comments with your link; this is considered spammy. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Your post is on your own blog, not here. You can get to you blog but going to My Site in the upper left of your screen, and there are instructions for cutting/pasting your link in this post.

  1. Hi all-It may look like my blog has been around for 7 months, but I assure I just started writing the first blog about 10 days ago. I’ve been a bit obsessed and have already made 10 posts. I have no readers yet, but the process has been cathartic for me and I hope that some day I will reach my intended audience-people, families coping with a cancer diagnosis. Thank you for reading. Your feedback is appreciated! https://lovecommacancer.com/2016/12/15/is-honesty-the-best-policy/

    1. Welcome!

I noticed that your blog’s home page still has some placeholder text on it. You can find your theme’s details here: https://wordpress.com/themes/gateway — it’ll help you learn to customize and configure all the parts of your home page.

You might also reconsider the small image of your family. When you look at the post you linked, you’ll see that it obscures the most important part of the large photo beneath it — the eyes! Something smaller and simpler might work a little better.

  2. I like the look of your home page, but your About page has the generic message. You may want to write something telling the readers what to expect of your blog or just get rid of the tab all together.

  3. I loved your writing style. It’s descriptive and emotive. You’ve written beautifully about Mrs. Matarage. So much so, that without having known her, I can deduce the kind of person she must’ve been.

Also, you have a lovely blog!

  4. Hey! I checked out your blog and it looks really nice! I like the font and how you have your posts on the home page. I noticed however, you have unused text widgets on your pages. I think if you just fill them with something or get rid of them it may help! You can do this by clicking the customize button when you are logged into your sight!
