Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi everyone! I recently started my blog and am still working on the design. I’m using the template Argent but for some reason my tagline isn’t showing up even though I have the button checked. My header shows (JPROBINSON) but not my tagline which is “Experience the Power of the Word.”

Any thoughts on how to fix this? My blog domain is https://jprobinson.org/.

Please follow me while you’re on the site. I write about relationships, life issues and communication. There’s also info about my upcoming novel: TwiceBorn. Thanks for your help and for stopping by!

      1. Thanks a lot! I’m wondering the same thing. I previewed another theme and the tagline showed up perfectly.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to contact Argent’s creator and let him/her know of the problem?

    1. Hello! As the commenter above suggested, Argent is a theme that doesn’t show the tagline — while most themes do, other don’t, as some are geared toward other purposes where taglines might be less fitting.

There could still be a way to display your tagline using this theme using Custom CSS (which is included in our Personal, Premium, and Business plans). You may want to inquire about the possibility of accomplishing this first, and the best place to get expert advice on Custom CSS is at the CSS Customization support forum:

      Good luck with your site!

  4. Hi. I started a blog about 3 months ago, and have written about 7 posts. I’ve been dying for some feedback or the other. I really wanted some feedback on one of my posts, “Travelling”. I hope you like it.

  5. Hi! I am an aspiring author who has recently started a blog.
I post about my books, life in general and other stories that I wish to write.
Recently, I have posted my entry for commonwealth essay, which won me a bronze medal in the competition. It is long. But I assure you that it is worth while.
I want as many people as possible to read it.

    1. That was a really emotional story and I could tell that you really care about the issue. The only thing I suggest is watching about for grammar. For example:
“You have done well” he said.
      Should become:
“You have done well,” he said.
There always needs to be punctuation at the end of dialog, whether it’s a comma or period or exclamation mark. And if the dialog ends with a period or exclamation mark, you need to capitalize the following sentence.
“AMENA!” he called out getting no response.
      Should become
“AMENA!” He called out, getting no response.

Anyway, these are just little things that help you to appear more professional. The biggest thing, though, is being able to write a story that connects and moves the audience. It’s clear that you’re very capable of that. Just continue to brush up and study the basic rules of grammar, and your writing will excel. 🙂

From one author to another, best of luck!

  6. hello, I’m Zina. I just joined the blogoshere yesterday. I could use some advise on how to do things around here. Reading all the instructions about everything does not help much.
    Thank you ^_^

    1. Great post! Go to “My Site” and then settings and name your site! Also, you can go to the Menu tab of “My Site” and add Menus so that you can add other aspects to your blog like an “About” page! Great start to a blog 🙂

  7. Hi there!
I wrote this past week about understanding how important you are. I wrote from my heart, and I hope it can reach you and give you confidence in who you are.
You have been created by an awesome creator, and my hope is that you know how beautiful you are.

    My Beloved

I’d love to hear what you think about it and feel free to give any suggestions. I’m always trying to be better, so comments and advice are welcome!

    1. Your post was a good description of how you came to be where you are. I like the idea of using your blog as a sandbox. It gives you flexibility. For instance, you could create a series of short pieces that focus on significant memories in your life. You could write essays about topics that energize you. You could write short stories. If you took that approach, each type of writing could go in a category (memories, essays, stories…). There are many ways to go. Deciding may be a challenge 🙂 https://gracelead.co

      1. Thank you for your reply! What you describe is what I have in mind. I just posted a new memoir piece which continues the story I started “The day I learned about evil.” I am also looking for a new energizing topic to write about.

    1. The Good: Your short stories, are great, keep working on them and keep posting more. Maybe, you could make the titles for each story bold and a different size so that other folks can tell the difference. I also like the design of your website. The font for the titles of each blog post is very whimsical.

And, now for the Improvements: Don’t be afraid of pictures, go to an unlicensed common copyright website, and get some photos and pop those bad boys into your blog post. You know what they say about a picture. It adds a thousand words. Once you do that, it’ll make your articles feel like that.

Great work on the blog. Not sure how old you are, but when I was a teen starting this blog thing, my pages didn’t look half as good as yours. Nice work.

      1. Thank you very much! I”m sixteen but I don’t mention it much. Writing has always been a passion. On the picture note I have a ThreeLineTale coming out tomorrow at 4:00 if you get on to check, I think people will enjoy it:) I have been planning on doing CC pictures but I haven’t gotten time with finals and semester ending yet. Gonna start that hopefully over Christmas break!

      2. I totally understand. When, I was sixteen, a long, long time ago (seven years ago, sigh), I wrote my first 336 page novel, while dealing with exams, a part-time job, a part-time tutoring gig, and of course college prep. Trussssst me, I understand the time issues.

    1. Hello Karthik, loved your most recent post about your visit to the children’s cancer center. It was very well written, engaging and touching. My only comment is “I was completely out of breadth” should be ‘breath’. Otherwise keep it up, you have a lovely message for the world.

    1. Hi! Your first post was really fascinating and well-written, but I was a bit caught off-guard being plunged so suddenly into such a dark topic! I think your writing is fantastic, but you might want to give your readers a little bit of an introduction that gives some context for what comes next, such as making a connection to a familiar news story or a question that readers might have.

      1. Edit: I reread your intro and realized that you basically already did what I suggested! I would still recommend lengthening the intro and providing more of a narrative to draw readers in instead of using such a matter-of-fact tone. (And honestly, this is just my opinion, so feel free to ignore my input! 🙂 )

    1. Hi! I really enjoyed your second blog post blonde hair – blue eyes. I find it fascinating how often we overlook the value of other peoples inner experience. I think it’s really great that you are expressing that dimension. I can suggest for your blog to edit the heading and remove the generic welcome to my wordpress. Perhaps also put in an about section? Keep up the great writing!

      1. Hi! Thank you for your insight. Yes, unfortunately that blog came from personal experience. It’s sad when people are unable to see the real value of who we really are. Thankfully, I don’t suffer from that. I will make time to bump up my page.

        Thanks again!
