Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

      1. Considering ours is the same way, it didn’t bother me 🙂 Though we are working to eventually get to a static home page that has a blog section as I do think it’s a better presentation of all the things your site has to offer.

  1. Hi everybody! I’m new to writing so I’d love your constructive criticism.

In my first link I’m trying out a challenge for myself and anyone else who takes the challenge. I was hoping to create a conversation about the Wikipedia article of the day. I’m finding it hard to drive any traffic to the post.

    1. https://connorgraham.ca/2016/11/22/challenge-1-learn-something-everyday-for-30-days/

In my second link I would love some input on the content quality.

Is there anything you would recommend tweaking to improve the overall quality or content? I appreciate any feedback!

    Thank you WordPress community!

    1. Hi Arwa,

Before I was able to read through your post I noticed that you have an unformatted text box in your sidebar widget section!

Otherwise your page looks very nice. I will have a read through your post!

    2. Hey Arwasaud.

I like that your blog is straight to the point but I think you could do with proofreading your work. You wrote that: ” I have a lot of cousins and uncle”, should it be uncles or I have an uncle and a lot of cousins?

Also, Africa is a big continent, Where in Africa are you from? When you started writing your blog, I would suggest to write “I grew up from a family from ________ in Africa”. Say where in Africa that you are from.

Just as an additional bonus, I would have liked a picture of outside your house to give me an understanding for those who aren’t familiar with what it is like to live in Africa.

Overall, I would suggest to proofread your blog before it gets published or get someone in the family to do it. There are some punctation that needs to be replaced. For instance on the third paragraph e.g. “Because no one chose what they look like so why would we judge them for something they was born with!”. The exclamation mark should be a question mark after “with”.

I hope you found this feedback useful.

    1. Rainy Days is a good post. Putting a blank line between paragraphs would make it easier to read. To gain more visitors, have you tried using the WordPress Reader? You can set up tags to find posts similar to yours. If you put likes or comments on some of those posts, it will make your site more visible to those likely to be interested in your posts. https://gracelead.co

  4. Hi everyone. 2 questions.

    1) Any bloggers out there want to do a guest post exchange? I do humor, politics, and history. Check out my blog to see if we’d be a good match.

    2) Can you think of any political topics that you want to know more about but don’t because you hate reading boring, lengthy articles? I want to help with that! I’m looking for new content ideas and I thought I’d try asking ya’ll for topics you’d want to see explained and made fun. I’m open to all suggestions.

    1. Commenting on other people’s blogs, following them (those that you like) would help get others to recognize your existence in the blogosphere.

Perhaps writing the blog in English as well would help boost traffic and followers.

  6. I’d like to invite everyone to stop by and read a poem from a few weeks ago, “Beautiful Agony.” It’s received a positive response and I’d like to share it again for anyone who hasn’t read it. If you like it, please leave a like on the post page and follow me as I post several times a week. Of course, I welcome comments and any feedback, please leave them on the post page as well. Thanks in advance for reading.

    1. Well said. Over the years, I’ve found that something I learned in a job that I thought was pointless is now something God weaves together with other abilities He has given me. That helps me remember that whatever I am doing, I should be doing it for Him. https://gracelead.co

    1. I like the look of your site and it’s easy to navigate. I enjoyed your recent post. Thanks for sharing your childhood memories. I noticed you assigned it to several categories. I didn’t see those categories in your Menu. Perhaps some of them would be better as tags. https://gracelead.co

  7. Hi all! So I wrote a post on voting for Trump as a black woman. It’s a series I’m writing and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments if you have any. I have only posted part 1 at this time but I will go more in depth.

I think it offers a perspective maybe people haven’t heard before. Even if you disagree or can’t see the perspective, I think the entire series will still offer something new.

    1. Hi Sara 🙂

Thanks for following my blog. I appreciate that 🙂

If you like watching British Rom Coms, can I request blogs on:

      Bridget Jones Diary (1,2,3)
      Notting Hill
      Love Actually
      Four Weddings and a Funeral

If possibly Rom Coms is or isn’t your thing, I would suggest:

      Sherlock Holmes
      Titanic
      The King’s Speech
      Henry V
      Inception
      The Dark Knight
      In The Loop
      Harry Potter

I only suggested those films because they are the movies I’ve seen and it be nice to hear a review from that.

I hope that is food for thought 🙂
