Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I laughed when I clicked your blog because my students just tried to convince me to let them watch the movie Sausage Party…they are older (17-20 year olds). Movie buffs would love your blog!!!

    1. Your post was interesting from the perspective of seeing how someone thinks things through as they grow. I didn’t see any tags on the post. Having some tags could help people find your post. I noticed you have place holder text in your text widget. You could put a short description of yourself or a favorite quote there. https://gracelead.co

    1. Your post was a good read. It is well-written, has a great tone, and flows well. Have you tried using the WordPress Reader to set up tags to find posts related to yours? By liking or leaving comments on some of those posts, you can increase visibility to your site. https://gracelead.co

      1. Happy to.. I loved the simplicity of your home page, although it took me a few (attempted) clicks to realise that the lists could not be expanded on! The Canon camera pic is great. I read your 10 reasons to travel, and enjoyed it a lot. I work in the airline business and have flown a great deal – I do understand your apprehension, even after all the flights I’ve been on (and it must be hundreds), I still make sure I know where the exits are, and generally ensure I’m familiar with my environment; but all I can do is to encourage you not to let it stand in the way of the thrill of travel, it’s truly a wonderful thing. Maybe an 11th reason would be to have something new to blog about!

  2. Sorry for a second comment in 24 hours, this is getting silly now, but I’ve just realised today is my 1 year blogging anniversary! 3. Hello!
I love my blog so far, it’s really going wonderfully. But I am just not sure what I should do for the Thanksgiving holiday, besides the Thanksgiving header. I really am trying hard to make my first main holiday on this blog really really special.

I hope you have a good day!

    1. Your post about the readling aloud handbook was interesting and informative. I suspect your fitness posts will appeal to many. You might want to assign each post to a category (fitness, family, teaching, Christ…) and display the categories in your Menu. That will make it easier for visitors to find posts of most interest to them. https://gracelead.co

    1. I enjoyed Scotch Lick Kind of a Day. I had never heard that expression and your post clearly illustrated the meaning. Your Menu confused me. Generally, menus have a few static pages (About, Contact Me, etc.) and categories. It appears that you are using categories for your posts. Those categories might work better in your menu than what you have. https://gracelead.co

      1. Which menu confused you? In the purple box, I do have a lot of pages linked. I write song lyrics, and each one featured in the box is a separate page for each song, other than the home, about, blog and contact pages. It reminds me of the back of a CD case, which is why I chose it. They are all linked in my first blog post also, but that is going to be harder to find as I do more blogging and the blog posts start displaying in a month instead of front and center. Does that shed a little light on why I have it set this way?

      2. The purple box appears to be your Menu. Instead of making a separate page for each lyric, another approach would be to make each song lyric a post. Then you could make a category “Song Lyrics” and assign each lyric to that category. Then, put the Song Lyrics category on your menu. That would make it easy to find them. https://gracelead.co

      3. So if I am to understand, you would find it easier for the Lyrics and Notes to be there instead of the page links for each song listed separately. I will think about that.

      4. For me, it would be easier to see one page that holds all the lyrics. If you don’t want to make them posts, another option is to make each lyric into a pdf file that you store in your Media folder. Then you can make a Lyrics page that has a link to each one. That’s how I manage the Book Summaries on my site.

      5. That is over my head. I looked at the menu, and I have a way to link the blog there, but not my first post, called Lyrics and Notes. If I could figure out how to do that, I would try it and see if I liked it or not. But I don’t know how.

  4. Greetings fellow WordPressers!

Over the weekend I added a post with a few thoughts about the presidential election in the US…and tinkered with the theme’s Widgets a bit. If there’s anyone who isn’t taking a vacation from politics feel free to drop by. I would happily return the favor.

    1. It was easy for me to relate to your post, “10 Reasons to Travel.” It would be an even better read if you did some proofreading to fix the spelling errors and incomplete sentences. For instance, “I’m going. With my friends.” should be, “I’m going with my friends.” Also, your numbered list isn’t show 1-10. https://gracelead.co
