Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I think it is a bit too choppy. Those short sentences pack a punch but they lose power if they’re overused. You’re using them in place of full sentences a lot and it reads a little off, if that makes sense.

    2. I don’t mind short sentences, but I’m not a fan of incomplete sentences. For instance, “This is how I drank my wine. At the end.” is a sentence followed by a phrase which doesn’t have meaning on its own. Consider combining them as, “This is how I drank my wine, at the end.” https://gracelead.co

    3. I personally really like the cadence of the piece but I can be a choppy writer myself. I always love the feel of stream of consciousness thoughts captured in writing. I think its really good work. I felt like I learned a lot in a spare amount of words.

    1. This remids me of a joke:
Me: “Doctor, you said therapy would make me feel better. Now that I’m talking about this, I’m more agitated than I’ve ever been!”
Doctor: “Based on what you’re saying, you’re feeling things much better than you were.”
      My feedback: Cryptic, poetic.

    1. I took a look around, nice blog! I think reviews are definitely nice, I personally like the photo challenge section. I don’t know how you work, perhaps you can choose a certain theme each month and work around that? Or let your readers choose a theme you write/photograph about. Hope I could help 😉

      1. Thank you for your comments and ideas. I was thinking about re-introducing photo challenges to keep the juices flowing. I don’t have very many readers right now but I should probably solicit ideas from whoever would like to make suggestions. 🙂

    1. Just commented🙂 Great content, good use of tags. Rock on!! My only suggestion would be to break your text into multiple paragraphs — this post is a little overwhelming as a single paragraph when two or three paragraphs would make it easier to digest. You could also add an image to break up the text. After all, blogging is a very visual medium! Your content is amazing, though — don’t change that!

    2. Hello! I like your use of bold words in your posts. Natalie’s suggestion about breaking up text is a good one. I also suggest expanding a little. For example, in your most recent post, write about where you work (no need for specifics) or a specific interaction with a customer you had. Just make your posts a bit more personal and let your personality shine!
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Hi! I’m glad you explained the meaning behind your blog name in your About page!
I do suggest adding images to all your posts. Images help break up text and are visually pleasing.
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Your pingbacks and comments will continue not to appear on The Daily Post as long as you create pingbacks in posts that bear no connection to the topic of the challenge or prompt in question. We welcome and encourage everyone’s participation, but not when bloggers link to off-topic posts. As for First Friday, these threads are meant exclusively for bloggers sharing their very first post shortly after they start blogging. Since you’ve been publishing on your blog for several months, First Fridays are no longer the best fit for sharing your posts.

Your comments and pingbacks will appear again on this site once we no longer see out-of-topic pingbacks and comments.

      1. You’re definitely invited to share here, but I’d highly recommend following our guidelines — listed in the post itself — very closely. And bear in mind there will occasionally be a delay between the time you submit a comment and when it appears on the post.

    1. Just commented. I think what you’re doing is wonderful! Good content, good use of images. What tags are you using? I didn’t see any on the post, but some themes hide them. Things like “vulnerability” or “life story” or “challenges” might be good fits, perhaps.

    2. Wow, so indeed you are, and may I be the very first to say-Welcome to the WordPress family of bloggers and blog followers such as yours truly! It’s so very great for you that you have just started your very own blog, and may I share a word of advice with you? Whenever you get a great idea for a blog post, write your draft down first, and then, a few days later, write your post from your draft in which you have just written! However, if you do get stuck on what to write, then go for a walk, meditate, or do adult coloring, whichever you do. I hope that you have much success with your blog, and I would very much like to wish you very good luck; If and when you get a chance, please be sure to check out my own blog, which is called KALEIDOSCOPE, a http://www.j2w7.wordpress.com! 1. You’re off to a great start! I like your layout. I suggest adding some images to your post and perhaps expanding you About page so people can get to know you and your blog a bit better.

    1. Just commented 🙂 Great content, good use of tags, good use of images. Rock on!! My only suggestion would be to break your text into multiple paragraphs — “The Walking Paradox” is a bit overwhelming to read because all of the text is crammed into one paragraph. Let the piece breathe by making it two or three paragraphs instead 🙂

Would you please check out one of my posts? Based on your posts, I think you’ll like this one about labels: https://natalieschriefer.wordpress.com/2016/11/06/ruminations-krishnamurti/

    1. Very relatable! I’ve only just begun adulting and I’m already tired. I have a feeling that no one masters the art of adulting until they’re like 40 and are too old to care.

If your purpose is to promote your books then one suggestion I have is for you to recreate your contact page to reflect interest in your books. For example, reword the text to ask people to join your mailing list or to complete the form to receive more info on how to purchase your book.

Your “About” page is excellent for a debuting author. Overall design is clean and I like that you kept the use of widgets to a minimum. I am not sure that the search widget is necessary but its not a detractor either. Nice job and congrats on the release of your book.

      1. you are most welcome. I, too am expecting my first book to be released in the new year and have designed my blogs to at least promote it, but not so much as feature it…yet.

    1. If you’re looking for those specific topics, you can always search for them via Reader 🙂 Try searching “poetry” or “self-awareness” or “society” etc. to find posts on those topics.

I looked your blog over — noticed your tags were written in a dark font. On a dark background, that means I can’t see them. Consider changing the color so your tags aren’t “hiding.”
