The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:
- Learn, a series of step-by-step tutorials for those just starting out.
- All our posts on building an audience and growing your traffic.
- If you’re stuck for inspiration, here are our Daily Prompts and other ideas for writing topics.
- A roundup of posts on blogging etiquette.
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.
Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

Nice post, very motivational as I’m in a kind of slump now surrounding university as it comes up to exam time. Love the Henry Miller quote at the end, I couldn’t agree more!

Thank you! I also have exams coming up and some other deadlines, but must not think about the mountain I’m climbing and just do the daily work, otherwise I get stressed out.
I love that quote too, and it’s so true in my case. Writing is my therapy. ♥

Tell me about it, every time I make a to-do list I panic! I feel I have a massive mountain to climb in such a short space of time. Both writing and art is my therapy so I always turn to them at such times!

Hi Ida!
I checked your post and I am really inspired by it. I did not join nanowrimo this year because I have too many things on my mind. I might eventually try it, though.
I know you have a set number of words you need per day, but the important part is to keep writing. With your mindset (and with the help of your blog where you keep track of your progress), you’ll get to your goal for sure.
Best wishes!

I’m glad it inspired you! Maybe you can try next year? Or there is Camp NaNoWriMo in April or July, and the Twitter Writing Challenges all year long (500 words a day, every day).
Thank you for your comment and my best wishes to you too! ^_^

Hi. I recently started a 300 word fortnightly story group. We could still do with a few more members though, so if you might be interested, please drop me a line via the contact page on my blog, To Cut a Short Story Short, and I’ll be happy to send details. If you’d just like to subscribe to the stories (with the option of possibly contributing in the future) then please do likewise (they are sent out by e-mail).
In the meantime, here’s a ‘colourful’ little tale in 200 words, The Real Doctor Lamont, from my blog. I hope you enjoy it!

Hello TM! It’s early days right now but I hope to build the group up to something special over time!

Thanks very much – see the above reply! Re the story I linked to, it was one of the first I wrote, but I kinda like it, due to the circular (nightmarish) quality. Not sure how I came up with it really!

What a good niche for a blog, keep it up. I also like your page layout design, what kind of theme did you use?
LikeLike
Hi and thank you very much!
The theme is Sela (which is free) and the menu was done using categories. The index of stories is done as a spreadsheet on Mac numbers and imported into a post and published from time to time. Then I used a few of the WordPress.com widgets in the sidebar to liven it up!
BTW I just republished a quirky little tale a few minutes ago:

Hi Jade.
I like that you chose 1 Corinthians 13. Left you a comment on your post.
First thing I noticed on your blog was the header image: black font over gray background. When it comes to font color over a background, I try to use light over dark or vice versa to make it easier to read.
If you check my blog, you’ll notice I used white font over a dark background. It might be a matter of preference, though.

That is such a sad and moving story. I am sorry your family had to experience this loss, well actually, that you are continually experiencing it daily. I found the part where you lamented never pulling your older sister’s hair as you were learning to grip most touching. But you know, it’s as if in these writings you are gripping for her and she may just feel it.
