Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Kirthi Jayakumar – TEDx Speaker, UN Online Volunteer, and my co-author in Mock, Stalk & Quarrel – an anthology of satirical stories (my debut as a published author) dropped in for a guest post on my blog. Because the blog post is a promotional one, we’re mainly talking in humorous/satirical tones and about the book itself. Do tell me what you think of it.

  2. I initially did this post as a response from to a Daily Prompt. I did not get a lot of response on it. I am hoping to get some feedback. My previous blog was very focused on one issue. I am using the new blog to get some of the things rattling around in my brain out before the clutter in the attic becomes overwhelming.

  3. Hi there! I write about my travels and what it has been like living in London for the past two years. Sadly my visa is up and now I’m going through post travel depression of moving back home. Currently also in Vietnam and have been writing about my highlights and happy moments. Check it out and would love to hear what you think and any tips you have for me. Definitely keen to see what you also write about xoxoxo

    1. I checked out Wouldn’t It Be Lovely… I liked the idea of you starting with an image of yourself as a child who chattered openly and how that changes as we become adults. You lost me a little on the discussion of being nice and wishing people could see that you were just genuinely trying to be nice, but then at the same time not see it. I guess it depends on the true purpose of your post- is this a fleshing out of ideas for yourself, or a message to the world?

I totally get the lady who denied your help with her bag. In today’s day, as sad as it is, you don’t know who you can trust. I always turn people down for help, and I recall a moment when I think I really annoyed a lady by doing so, but that wasn’t my intention or even my fault. I just genuinely didn’t want the help.

Check out the weekly writing at YeahWrite.me and submit some of your new pieces to them. I think you might enjoy it, and the feedback you receive there as well! Happy blogging, and feel free to check out my page as well and openly critique.

    2. I have to say, I don’t love the dark blue colour you chose; it makes things kind of hard to read. A lighter colour would be best, I think.
      Happy Blogging!

  4. I have been blogging for about 7 months now and I need some help. I have about 115 followers… I don’t use facebook or twitter or instagram. I share on google+, linkedin, pinterest. mogul and stumbleupon. I refuse to make a facebook account. What can I do to have a better blog? How can I get more followers? I link up to a couple linky parties but could really use some good “mom” ones if anyone knows of any. The only one I’ve really found is Momsters, which is awesome, but I think I need to expand more. Please check out my blog at: https://prettyflyforawhitemom.wordpress.com/

    Constructive criticism welcomed!!!!
    Thank you.

    1. You already tag, so the more savvy bloggers who know how to search can find you. If you’ve not tried the Search on your Reader, give it a go – I didn’t know just how many other science blogs there are on WP (and how many people are actually interested, much more than I thought, but that’s just my low self-esteem talking). Diving randomly into other people’s blogs – those you follow, those who follow you, Daily Prompts even – gets your name out there too. It’s a slow process, but it gets you noticed. Posting often like you’re doing also helps – you never know when you get Discovered (happened to me, oddly enough), but the more you write, the more you’ll be visible.

BTW, I do have a Facebook account, but I quit advertising my blog there once I started getting the feeling that I’m annoying people with my advertising there. The people here are more understanding, though.

  6. Hi

It would be great if you could check out my latest blog post. I post my latest drawings as well as poetry and other writings, but I always like to keep them short and sweet. I would also check out your blog too.
