Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. It was a very touching bog and one I’m sure many resonate with . I loved the little drawing on there too. I’d like to see a phot of you or an About page, as I like to find out about who I’m reading. Perhaps I’m nosey though haha!

    1. Just commented. Nice content, good use of images, good tags. My suggestion: consider lengthening the article a bit. I’d love to hear more about your experiences at the festival — you gave your readers a taste of it, but a bit more detail — maybe 4 or 5 more paragraphs — would really give us a complete picture. 🙂

I know we’re already following each other, but would you be willing to check out one of my posts? Click on my name and choose whichever one appeals to you most. 🙂

    1. I think the headings being red is a bit harsh and unwelcoming when scrolling through. I would tone it down to a more friendly colour such as blue or a different shade of green.

    1. Just stopped by. Nice post. I like how you have an image as well as text to go along with it — it’s a good combination. Good use of tags as well! My suggestion would be to add a few more tags, such as ‘astronomy’ to draw in more readers.

    1. Hello! 🙂 I just stopped by — here are some assorted suggestions.

      1. Consider making your “Like any mom…works for us” line a bit shorter. There are a lot of words there, and they’re tiny! (at least on my monitor)
      2. Use images. Images add color and break up the text a bit. Your content is good, so don’t change that, but blogging is a very visual medium, and I think your blog will benefit from a few images here and there!

Hope this helps! 🙂 Would you be willing to check out one of my posts? Click on my name and choose whichever one appeals to you most.

  1. Howdy, swimmers! 🙂 I recently published a post on labels, and whether or not they’re inherently violent. What do you think?

    Ruminations: Are Labels Violent?

If you leave a comment for me, I’ll do the same for you. I’m working on a freelance project, so I might not get to your comments today, but I promise I will. Rock on! 🙂

  2. Hello!
For my blog I have that header, if you’ve seen my blog you will know that right now it’s a Thanksgiving themed header. I want to change the header theme for each holiday, so I am going to change it for New Years.
Is that a good idea? Please let me know.
My blog is thebloggingdinosaur.wordpress.com if you’d like to check it out.

    Thank you.

  3. Hi, I’m Jennie and I’m a lifestyle, travel and beauty blogger! I’ve just uploaded a post all about my first day in the wonderful city of Amsterdam and I’d absolutely love some feedback on it! 🙂 I’d be so thankful if you check out my blog, and let me know if you have so I can check yours out too! Thankyou 🙂

    1. Just commented! Great use of images, good use of tags, and awesome content. Rock on! 🙂 Amsterdam looks really cool! I don’t really have any suggestions for you, so I’ll just say this: make sure you don’t use more than 15 tags/categories — if you do, WordPress blocks your post from Reader. This post was safe, though; I believe I counted 13.

    1. Meant to add that when I went on to your page it read ‘this is an extract from …page’ perhaps you could play around with the summary bit to show some more info so that people click on it? 🙂

      1. I’m not great at the page design stuff to be honest :-/ I think you click on customise at the bottom right of your screen (it hovers when you go there), then go into MENUS which you’ll see on the left. Afterwards I ‘think’ you go into PRIMARY menus to create your poetry menus and then subcategories if you plan to have different categories for poems. Then go into each poem individually, edit, and go into categories/tags to select the category for each poem. Hope this helps. If not then perhaps you could ask the Wordpess people. I have to do this too actually because all of my poems are bunched under creative writing.

      2. I really should put a poetry category on my page and then perhaps some subheadings. Most of my writing is poetry. I’m putting it off because I think it’ll be a boring task – god for you! 🙂

      3. I just tried it from my phone and it worked!! I’m excited clearly lol. Thank you thank you. They all still show up on my home page but the ones tagged poetry are on that page. I think I’ll pay more attention to tags and that should keep it organized. I actually like the creative writing for yours because that’s what it is too. I will say that your layout inspired me to try some things with mine as soon as I saw it. Thank you again!

    1. Cute little story about mice and how we use so little of our brain. Interesting take on the subject and I don’t normally read fiction blogs so this one caught my attention.

    1. Just commented! Great content, great use of images. My suggestion: consider using more tags. I only saw one, “natural hair.” Tags help new readers find you, and you can use up to 15 tags/categories total, so consider adding a few more to draw new readers in. Tags like ‘hair’ or ‘Mielle’ or ‘Nutiva’ or ‘hair care’ might be a good place to start 🙂

    1. Just stopped by! Great content, good use of tags. My only suggestion: maybe find an image to pair with your poem? Not a huge deal, but since blogging is a very visual medium, an image might strengthen your words.

    1. Very interesting post. One thing I will say is that although you break up your text with block paragraph formatting, some more images would make the blog post more appealing! It was an informative post and gives the reader much to think about.
