Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and blogging camaraderie.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello all!

Today I posted a “what I’m reading” update with an emphasis on what I read to learn outside of class.

Coming up this week I’ll talk about why I don’t want children – I’m at the age where people are starting to have them, and it’s a weird time.

Also, I’ve updated my about page and menus; feel free to let me know what you think! Is my site easier to navigate now?

Looking forward to reading everyone’s posts this week!

  6. Hello Ben!
Take a look at my writer blog as I recently made the header. I love it but what do bloggers, readers, or others think? Also, scroll down to my September newsletter post and take a peek. I’m doing May, September, and December newsletters as a new writer. Quick and easy read, people can check it out and move on.
    Thanks!

    1. It’s a nice image. My one suggestion would be to somehow display your name more prominently. At first I wasn’t sure what the book covers were – it was only after I looked closely that I could see the author’s name and realized they were all your own books! My initial impression was more that it was a book review site, rather than an author’s site.

  8. Hi everyone! I don’t have a new post particularly, but I’d like your help anyway.
I have an environmental blog, http://www.eco-intelligent.com. It’s basically a science blog, and I want to explain ecological and environmental processes in a way that non-experts can understand.
I’d really appreciate it if you could read a few posts and tell me anything that will help me simplify the content (if required).
The feedback is really appreciated! Thank you in advance 🙂

    1. Hi – lots to go through on this blog but the one item I did not see was an explanation of tools and models used to come to the scientific consensus. That’s a big subject in itself.
I’m following now and will try to pop in – I’m. Wet interested in going through your posts on environmental impacts statements.
I’m a hiker so I’m loving nature so this subject is very important to me.

      1. Thank you so much for taking the time!
Understood, I’ll come with a post/posts on modelling and scientific procedures. I never thought of this before, thanks!
I’ll be delighted if you find things useful in my blog 🙂 Do keep reading and giving suggestions.

  9. Hi all!
I would love to get feedback on my latest few posts. I tend to be a very personal blogger, so they are intentionally “deep”.

I want to do a series of “Monday Joys” or more daily journaling – considering I don’t post that frequently due to lack of content. I want to just simply express my days in the creative way that they come to my mind.

I would love to know what you all think. I’m super excited to have discovered this “pool” and look forward to reading all your work!

  11. Hey all.
I’ve been writing some fiction for a good while now, and a friend of mine has pushed me to put it somewhere in public for others to see. So I’ve been humoring him for about a week now.
He likes what I’m writing. Another friend thinks it’s terrible. I guess we could use the community to break the tie, tell us which of the two is in the right.
And if it turns out you genuinely enjoy the stuff, or if it was so bad it gave you a good laugh, then you’re welcome I guess.

  12. As we have seen in this election, facts don’t matter. Reporting doesn’t matter. Writing and blogging don’t matter.

People just believe what they believed all along. We ain’t making no damn difference.

So I am giving up blogging. I can put my time to better use by getting a PhD.

    1. Hi Smitha, I really liked reading some of your posts. As you might be able to tell from our name, I especially loved your nostalgia post. Your description and memories of your grandmother were beautiful. It made me want to be in the kitchen with her as she cooked. My favorite part: “Memories then need to be engraved in the heart, etched in the mind or utmost carried in a backpack. Roots need to be hard-coded to have an innate sense of belonging and identity and a soul that is nourished -not shallow, blurred and lost in the noise and chaos around the world for that is what makes us…our roots!” Your prose reads like poetry. Beautiful!
