Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello Fellow Bloggers! I’ve been blogging for a little over two months now and it has been quite the adventure to say the least. 🙂

My blog’s main focus right now is photography along with a few self-help posts. I would absolutely love some feedback on the blog itself: https://hagardiab.wordpress.com/

Thank you so much and good luck on your blogging adventure everyone!

  2. New here, and really to blogging on a site. Most of my writing was in note form on Social media type sites. I do many things, I’m a farmer, mom, wife, artist (paint, draw, sketch,), bake, cook, DIY, sew, craft and many other things. I’m trying to figure out how to layout and be able to have all of these things in my blog. How to figure out how to make them all fit in one site.. Any feedback and suggestions would be very helpful. Please comment back here or my blog. Thanks!! 🙂

  3. Hello People!
I started a blog about wellness but sometimes I write personal thoughts. Is this a bad thing? Should I stay focused on wellness, instead of posts like my most recent one?

    Thank you!

    1. Like your Blog. I am just getting started and am trying to customize my blog. I feel like a fish out of water but I am still going to flip and flop around until I get it together. My blog is appreciating life and “the little things” that bring us joy and teach us about our world and ourselves. Well I am going to try anyway. My blog is itsthelittlethingscarol.wordpress.com. would love a visitor or two.

      1. Wow that’s nice to hear! Do keep writing often and set yourself with goals, your vision is very clear, now just need to follow it through. Would surely visit and check your blog! Do experiment with the themes and make sure you keep renewing them so that there’s some bright change and your followers might enjoy too!

  5. A piece on last weekends protest in Seoul; against President Park. With all that is going on in the bizarre world of politics lately, it felt good to be a part of a peaceful movement towards democracy, unity and transparency. This is my first try at writing about politics (usually focus on Korean culture, vegetarian food and diary entries) so I would really appreciate some feed back!

  6. I have a question for either Ben Huberman 0r anyone who can give me an answer. I have taken many classes through Word Press and gotten a lot out of those classes. But past few months I have taken a brake from posting on my blog. I recently started posting again but i noticed that my posts are not appearing in the Reader. Can you tell me why that is? Is it something I am doing wrong or is it because I have not been posting for a while? I am confused because this has never happened before. Thanks in advance. Here’s my link:

    1. Hello again! I looked a bit more into your site and why your posts might be missing from the Reader. I believe the reason is that your site is set to be hidden from search engines, a setting that prevents it from being shown in the Reader. (Of course, the Reader itself isn’t a search engine, but that setting affects your posts’ behavior in the Reader.)

The solution is very simple, however: simply head to https://wordpress.com/settings/general/artseafartsea.wordpress.com. Once there, changing your privacy settings to “Public” should sort this out.

Once again, I’m sorry for the slow response. If you encounter another issue with your posts not appearing in the Reader, feel free to contact our support team at help@wordpress.com. This will ensure a much faster reply. Thanks for blogging with us!

  7. I’ve been blogging for a few months now, and I recently upped the ante and took on a bigger research project that I’m used to. What I blog about is clocks – sometimes the history of cool clocks, sometimes about my efforts learning to fix clocks, and sometimes about clock-related subjects. I recently posted what I think will be the first of a few blog posts meant to bring local awareness to a rare historical clock that is wasting away in my public high school’s clock tower. Check out the blog and feel free to leave me your thoughts on how to move forward with what is a real historical gem. 🙂

    1. Like you, I’m also a gamer and enjoyed your post. A suggestion I have is to have a brief section of each blog that the reader can click on so they don’t have to scroll through entire blogs to get to their desired post. Haven’t played Dark Souls but people talk endlessly about how amazing it is. I also liked your indie game post, I love Indie games, Life is Strange is one of my favs

      1. Okay, sure! Thank you for the advice, that sure would be useful. And yeah Life is strange is a great one that I’m actually still finishing right now. Thanks for the follow, looking forward to seeing your content as well!

    1. I thoroughly enjoyed this post…an entertaining, charming mystery….a great read….hmm, I can’t think of any theory you haven’t covered, and I’m impressed with your deductive reasoning skills 🙂

      1. Thanks for the comment, I agree that nobody should ever demean another writer especially if they are new to writing because it may discourage them from putting their thoughts out on the blog ind the future. Criticism is good and should happen so they can improve, but there is a line that shouldn’t be crossed. Thanks for the feedback!

    1. I found much to like about your post. First, the cartoon was laugh-worthy and relevant. You write well. Clearly, you’ve put effort into the writing. Next, don’t resist the urge to go purple with hair if that strikes your fancy. Not everyone will like it, but the reality is, no matter what we do, there will always be someone who doesn’t like it. If I was trying to please everyone on my blog, I suspect I would experience blogger’s block. When I started, I identified a target audience and promised myself to write things that might be helpful to them even if they didn’t like all my posts. So far, that seems to be working. I do like your idea of easing your way into the change you want to make. Stay true to yourself and do your best. Best wishes. https://gracelead.co
