Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Have to say the images are dimply stunning! I’m at loss for words but truly you have succeeded in capturing the beauty with your lens.
However I didn’t notice any mountian ranges or hills images, forgive me if I might have not seen them by mistake, but exploring and capturing those areas and their beauty would be a great challenge alltogether! Keep posting 😊 and do check out my blog sometime

    1. Beautifully written. I just commented! Nice content, good use of media. My suggestion: use fewer tags. When you use more than 15 total tags and categories, WordPress blocks your post from Reader and new readers won’t be able to find you as easily 😦

    2. Hi Liz, Your blog helped me realize that I don’t have to have a “specific” topic, but reinforced what actions I do need to take to become part of the blogging world. Thanks for contributing not only your personal experience but tips for newbies. Oh, and I’m sorry for your loss. The writing was a lovely tribute.

      1. Hi Caroline! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I realized that engaging with other bloggers in this community really helps a lot.

I think it really depends on you and what you want for your blog to become. I have random thoughts a lot, so I can’t expect my blog to be about a specific thing. Although, if that’s something you want.. it’s okay too.

    1. I enjoyed Counting Stars. There are a couple of small grammar things: :…wish you can be here…” should be “…wish you could be here…” and “…spend the rest of night…” should be “…spend the rest of the night…” https://gracelead.co

      1. I love the design of your blog! It feels like Autumn (if that makes sense) which is very comforting. Your content is nice, great size posts and very relateable to people of any age.

    1. I love the about page — short but simple 🙂 I think those are the most effective bios, personally! I also love the color scheme — very autumny as finalends said. 🙂

    1. Good content, good use of images. My suggestion: add a few more tags. You can use up to 15 tags/categories total. Maybe “creative writing” or themes from your poem to draw in additional readers 🙂 You don’t need a lot more, so don’t go crazy over it.

    1. Just stopped by. Nice content! One question: are you using tags? Tags help new readers find you and categories organize posts within your blog; you can use up to 15 tags/categories total. Adding a few may help increase traffic!

    2. Wonderfully written. Loved, loved, loved the concept here. People have belittled me recently for getting married at the age of 20. But who says I couldn’t? Who says I couldn’t endure the hardships and joys in life and learn as I go? Who says I shouldn’t try and fail, and try and succeed even though I’m so young? Everyone deserves to learn new things, and try new things, and experience new things. LOVED THIS. Thank you! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!

    1. I love the quote you chose for your home page. It made me smile just reading it, so I think you chose an effective quote! 🙂

I think a smaller header photo might help your blog because the image you have now kind of throws the proportions off a little. But that could be a personal preference, not that big of a deal.

      Overall, I think you’ve got a great voice & a lovely blog!

That’s why I’ve chosen the birds as my header image, they represent the same to me!

I’ll have a look at your blog now! 🙂

  4. Hi everyone,
I just posted a new post about my ideas for a new political party and would love feedback on the soundness of my logic and comments. Although I did a good deal of research, I took on a huge topic. I’m also interested in hearing which themes resonate with people and if the writing style is engaging or not and why. It’s a very long post, so if you only read a portion I’d still welcome thoughts!
    Thanks,
    Caroline

    1. I totally relate to your personal space post. To protect my personal space in a check-out line, I put my cart behind me so the next person can’t invade my space. I do get some odd looks for this, but that’s okay with me. It also makes it easier to unload my cart. https://gracelead.co

    1. The Ezekiel Project is a better name for your site. I like the overall look. There are still some areas with placeholder text that need work. Since you have an Allow Me to Introduce Myself post, the About page seems redundant. You might want to put your Contact and Allow Me to Introduce Myself as pages accessible in your Menu rather than on your Home page. Returning visitors will be looking for your most recent post as the first thing on your Home page. https://gracelead.co

  6. How do I change the format for computer, smartphone, and tablet? Is there a way to edit and only have it affect that platform? Right now, it looks great on the computer, but the formatting is all wrong for the smart phone and tablet…

I look forward to feedback. Thank you!

    1. As far as I know, there is no way to edit one particular platform. 😦 Drat! You may be able to change your theme to find one that looks more suitable in all formats??

    2. Unfortunately, I don’t think you can change it on one to the other because I’ve run into this same issue. If you personally use a computer, smartphone, or tablet more, I’d just use that to base your platform and it will be what it will be. I looked at the site through my laptop as well as my phone and I didn’t see anything that I thought was really off looking. It’s really beautifully set up actually! Very easy to navigate and search through. If you find anything different out I’d love to hear myself! Until then, I’d just stick with your gut and it will be exactly what it needs to be! 3. As others have said, I don’t think there’s a way to edit only for a specific device. However, wordpress’s newest themes are automatically optimized for all devices.

    4. Okay, it actually has an automatic feature that suits any particular device. Personally i hardly do my editing on my smartphone, i rely mostly on my Lenovo notebook.

    5. I just wanted to reiterate the things others already mentioned — on WordPress.com, the vast majority of themes, including all themes from the past couple of years, are all responsive, so they automatically change their layout to match the size of the screen people view your site on. You can actually preview how your site looks on various screen sizes in the Customizer (https://wordpress.com/customize). Look for the device icons towards the bottom of the screen — clicking on them will change the display size of your site.

    1. I think you did a good job — you used a bunch of photos, which helps, and you also kept the post concise — awesome! 🙂 I have a marginal interest in family history, and I thought this post was fun to read.
