First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hey saw your website, not sure if you missed the side wiget or have not completed building it since its still the default text. But other then that, great first post introducing about yourself and your website.

Looking forward to your post about volunteering at YMCA!

    2. Look like you’ve posted a link to your preview, which only you can see — make sure you share the link to the public, published post!: https://happybitessite.wordpress.com/2016/10/17/a-healthy-interest/

Also, I noticed that your blog’s home page has lots of placeholder text on it, and you can’t actually get to your posts from the home page. You can find your theme’s details here: https://wordpress.com/themes/affinity — it’ll help you learn to customize and configure all the parts of your home page. You’ve picked a theme with quite a lot of setup (it’s really intended for business websites), so you might actually consider switching to something a little simpler and blog-focused. And if you feel like you could use a little more help with the ins and outs of WordPress.com, there’s a really useful “getting started” tutorial here: http://learn.wordpress.com.

  1. Hello there!
I just discovered this through the WordPress “Blogging: Fundamentals” course. My first post was published almost a month ago, but I didn’t exactly outline what my blog would be about, because I am letting it evolve organically. The general theme is “Urban nature and happy places”.
So here is my first post: https://jlgoodenough.wordpress.com/2016/09/22/potential-for-citizen-science-initiatives-in-rio-de-janeiro/
Please tell me what you think; I would love to get feedback! 🙂

  2. Hello everyone! I am new to the blogging world, and my new blog ‘Hard Reset’ is my attempt to chronicle my experiences as a single girl in her late 20’s, living away from family and dealing with MS. This blog is not about MS, rather its about how this diagnosis has been a trigger for me to be more watchful of my health, more positive and definitely more motivated. I just started blogging this week, please check out the link to my first post here and share your thoughts on how I could improve and write a blog that could be more useful to readers. Thank you.

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

  3. Hi everyone, I am currently working as a translation intern in Paris and I thought it might be a good hobby for me to write a travel blog. As well as noting down my experiences, I also want to write psots that give advice to people that aspire to move abroad. I hope you enjoy this post I wrote about my recent trip to Alaska!

    1. One thing — I noticed you used a lot of tags on your post. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts. If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers!

    1. I liked it a lot. You’ve obviously been practicing writing for a long time as your pretty good at it. Also, your page looks great too. Mine is rubbish as I really struggle with that side of things. I don’t have much time to learn either but hopefully I’ll get better with time. Good luck with your blog 🙂

    2. Hey! I poked around your blog and I love it! Your posts are so positive that they just make you feel good while you read 🙂 Your intro post made me curious to read more, which is what it’s supposed to do, and I loved what I found!

    1. Hey there :). I love you page and the way it’s set up. It looks very professional. The way you write is great too in that it flows nicely and is easy to follow. As for the subject, I’m in awe of what you are taking on. I have a 3 year old and a 4 year old and I can’t imagine them sitting still long enough for me to teach them anything! I’m looking forward to your future posts and will offer thoughts if I can!! Good luck 🙂

  4. Hi everyone. I am brand new to blogging and so would appreciate any helpful tips or feedback about my posts. I posted my first post last week which is the link below. It’s all about being a military spouse with no children. I’ve never done anything like this before and so I would appreciate feedback on whether you think the post is interesting and whether my style of writing will capture attention.
